  • Gus Fring and His Mysterious Past
Even among the memorable cast of Breaking Bad, Gus Fring stands out as an enigmatic villain. Not only does he act as the foil to the series’ protagonist Walter White, but he is also a well-developed character with original characterization and intrigue. However, unlike Walt, a big part of Gus’s identity is shrouded in mystery. The only thing we know for sure about Gus’s backstory is the fact that his old partner was killed by the cartel, establishing his personal motivation, and contrasting the detached, impersonal professionalism that we have come to equate his character with. Other than that, there are only bits and pieces that hint toward some sort of vague picture of what his past could’ve been like. While not enough to make any conclusive remarks on the specifics of his past, speculations aren’t entirely out of the question. Where did Gus come from? What was he like before he came to the States? Was Gustavo Fring even his real name? Gus’s lack of a coherent backstory serves a particular purpose, both from the in-universe standpoint and from the standpoint of the writers. This video will explore both perspectives of Gus Fring’s past, followed by speculations based on what we know about his past, formulating a probable image of the kind of man he was outside of the scope of the series.

Pinochet died in 2006 , and he wasn't murdered. Great insight on Gus

I say he's a " Bachelette ". His father was very powerful under Pinochet- then Pinochet turned on his father and his family.

@@tatianalyulkin410I hope Pinochet is rotting in the deepest parts of hell rn. That man caused heartbreak to thousands of low income families telling them they lost their newborns but in reality they were being trafficked to North America. They did this to lower the amount of people in poverty, improving their statistics.

i think it’s also important to note that the partnership between gus and max was romantic. makes his desire for revenge much much more believable

I would like to see a prequel series of 😊 Gus & his Chilean backstory o as a army general during the Chilean revolution & befriending all the Nazis from WW2 that were literally hiding out in South America after war that all started huge secret colonies there that are actually still there to this very day & not just Chile , where Gus was born & grew up & joined the military & government at but also cuz they colonized Chile , Argentina & Paraguay & parts of Brazil & Uruguay under the protection of those governments!!!!! It only makes sense that the German owner of Madrigal was atleast a second generation Nazi that got involved with the Chilean government & dictator at the time in some fashion that he met Gus while Gus was a general in the Chilean army back then!!!! Call that a reach but honestly , Gus talks to him about it in Better Call Saul about their time together back then fighting together in South America so either he was a German tourist that randomly got involved with the revolution going on at that time or he was a Nazi colonizer that was born there & already had ties with the Chilean government hence how he met Gus !!!!
After all is Don Eladio says to Gus the day he meets him : "The only reason you're alive & he is not is because I know who u are !!!! But just remember that ur not in Chile anymore"
Don Eladio & Don Salamanca both knew exactly who Gus was , Hector/ Don Salamanca saw Gus as a mirror image of himself only excway more ruthless & successful than Hector was & he knew that hence why he envied Gus from the very beginning & Don Eladio being the boss of all bosses & a businessman himself knew he could definitely trust Gus just as much if not even more than Don Salamanca or Don Bolsa because Eladio knew Gus was a ruthless & committed general that commited tons of war crimes & genocide which secretly made Eladio admiré & also secretly fear Gus in a way also hence why Don Eladio felt he had to immediately demonstrate his dominance to Gus when they met especially as the leader of the entire Mexican Cartel !!!!! I honestly believe all three of them were scared of Gus in their own personal ways hence why they all acted differently around him & all treated him differently then each other!!!! Gus kinda made all three Cartel leaders look kinda soft compared to Gustavos Chilean reputation as a ruthless general!!!!

Guys, I'm 60 years old! Gus is too young to have been someone very powerful either within Pinochet's inner circle or the DINA leadership. I say his power comes from his family name- his true family name. In other words he's " a Royal Prince ".

He is not a prince. He said he grew up very poor in better call Saul

I always wondered about the German connection by way of South America. I imagined maybe he was the biracial unwanted child of a Nazi and Black woman or Afro Latina.
