- India has demanded the release of a fighter pilot shot down by Pakistan warplanes in a major escalation between the two nuclear powers over Kashmir.
Video showing the pilot - blindfolded and with blood on his face - was shared by Pakistan's information ministry.
India described the images as a "vulgar display of an injured personnel".
The recent aerial attacks across the Line of Control (LoC) dividing Indian and Pakistani territory in Kashmir are the first since a war in 1971.
The incident, in which Pakistan said it had shot down two military jets, has escalated tensions between the two nations, both of whom claim all of Kashmir, but control only parts of it.

Im not taking anyones side. Kashmir should belong to the people of the Kashmiri land. They have all the rights to vote for independency, referendum just like we had for Scotland. International standard voting should be carried out and monitored by the United Nations. Then the majority people of Kashmir can decide to choose India, Pakistan or self run Independence. Their is no other solution to resolve Kashmir issue. Both countries can live at peace.

According to UN for a referendum to carry out in Kashmir ,Both India and Pakistan must remove all of its military occupation from the valley .
The region is heavily militarized to this day and it's an important geopolitical region for Pakistan ,India and China and one of the main reason is the river water which is crucial for Pakistan and Indian states like Punjab,Haryana & Rajasthan .

Kind of feel sorry for these two Indian airmen who got shoot down across the border, they probably never saw it coming and it’s likely that their active service on the front line now will be over. They will face a barrage of investigations back home and will get marked down severely for falling off the sky and making Indian Air Force look incompetent before the world media. They will be offered desk job in a supply station and surely within a year or two both will retire. However before the media our government will show them as hero, will boost their devotion and etc but deep down they will be getting it pretty hard. - India states Pakistan used F-16's in the operation and India shot one down, however evidence contradicts this, instead it shows that no F-16 was shot down, this was proven by a physical count taken of Pakistani F-16's by a US official after the incident.
In conclusion 1 Indian fighter jet was shot out of the sky and a pilot was captured, no Pakistani fighter jets were downed.
This is the full story:
On 27 February 2019, two Indian aircraft (1 Mig-21 and 1 Su-30MKI) were claimed to have been shot down by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) after intruding into the Pakistani airspace. Indian officials initially denied that any of Indian Air Force (IAF) jet was shot down. They also claimed that all IAF pilots were accounted for and denied that any IAF pilot was captured by the Pakistani security forces. However, later on Indian officials acknowledged that 1 IAF Mig-21 was shot down and its pilot was captured by Pakistani security forces. They, however, rejected shooting down of Su-30MKI by PAF jets and also claimed to have shot down one PAF F-16 jet. However, Pakistani officials rejected Indian claims of shooting down of one F-16 belonging to Pakistan Air Force. Pakistani officials stated that in this "day and age it is impossible to hide downing of a aircraft". Initially, Pakistani officials also claimed to have captured two Indian Air Force pilots but later corrected their statement and stated that only one IAF pilot was in their custody. Pakistani officials stated that it was the fog of war which led them to believe that there were two IAF pilots in their custody. Pakistan also denied the use of F-16s in the operation, stating that JF-17s were used instead.The Indian Air Force presented a part of an AIM-120 AMRAAM to prove the use of F-16s by Pakistan Air Force in the operation. Indian media also attempted to show proof of shooting down of F-16 by displaying pictures of wreckage of IAF Mig-21 (which was shot down in Pakistan on 27 February) and claiming that it was the wreckage of F-16. However, this was rebutted by Bellingcat, an open source UK based investigative journalism network, which confirmed it as the wreckage of a MiG-21. On 4 April 2019, it was reported in Foreign Policy magazine that unnamed senior U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the matter asserted that the US has recently completed a physical count of Pakistan's F-16s and has found none missing. One US official also disagreed with India's claim that usage restrictions disallow Pakistan from employing F-16s in military encounters with India.
