Really enjoyed this conversation about the chess clock subject. It felt like the pros and cons from both the casual and more competitive POVs were explained very well.
As a casual and irregular player who likes playing different factions I am pretty slow. I did one tournament and timed out every game which i felt bad about. I don't think I'll do another tournament and chess clocks would be the nail in the coffin. But i could see why top players might want it in theory though might not need it when playing each other.
How long were the rounds you played? 2 hours or 1:45? We’ve been discussing hosting specifically beginner friendly tournaments to make the game more accessible It’d be a shame to see you not attend future tournaments based on this experience hopefully it gets better in future:)
My views on chess clocks are well versed now, but it’s really interesting to reflect on this discussion after reading the World Championships player booklet. “Chess Clocks are not used at official Warhammer Events; the functional “clock” for a game of Warhammer is the number of Turning Points, not the minutes and seconds elapsed in the outside world…while we do not use a time-clocked Hard Dice Down policy in this event, our team of judges will actively help walk/roll/talk through games that have gone into break time, are running egregiously long, and are beginning to risk the start time of the next round…any attempt to manipulate the time rules, intentionally slow play, or otherwise disrupt the course of play to gain an advantage can result in arbitrary VP penalties adjudicated by the judge team” Honestly, the description they’ve used is exactly what I’ve had in mind and what I’ve tried to exhibit in my behaviours at tournaments. Personally I’m in vehement agreement with Jason. I’ll not ramble any further on the topic 😂
Yeah I think we were wrong on that! I’m unsure why Jason was told that was the case because a few people have said now that it’s not how Poland play Thanks for keeping us honest! :)
Really good to see things like active judging called out as the best solution to slow play rather than making the new player burden harder. X-Wing's competative scene was huge, and one of the few things that a massive majority agreed on, including the very best players, was that chess clocks were just unnececary. Chess clocks seem to me to be an outgroth from the Corehammer scene, and that's not a scene I think the Kill Team community should be emulating.
Yeah my opinion on clocks has changed quite a bit and I think there’s so many new players that get really put off by them I think the broader community could lose out to benefit a minority. Then again, give the community some time to develop and that might change again!
If you want community lead KT content have a listen to just another kill team podcast! they chat to community leaders all around the globe and how they get involved with thier local scenes and try to grow them!

Appreciate hearing your thoughts! It’s stuff like this that helped change my opinion on the subject
Most points i lost on tournaments are because of clock. And one thing about Polish tournaments. If you get 0s left you just pass.

Kill Team Casuals is a casual focused podcast. They talk about tournaments, etc. but also come at the game from a mostly casual perspective
KTC is a fantastic podcast and I highly recommend them, I’m jealous of their big bolter energy every show
Slick.

Turning point 5? I always wondered why my I never seem to score highly on primaries...
Gotta have a plan for that TP5

I hoping we can connect some of the big content creators more in 2024! Great recommendation!
Fill all the chess clocks with blu tac
BluTac will hold my camera in place… not sure it’ll hold time
