    How We Make Leather Samples
    A lot of folks have asked us how we make our patterns, so today we wanted to explore just how we go about that for a more complicated design! Our friend Jon sent us his Amazon Kindle to make a case for him, so we made an initial sample to get our dimensions right out of scrap leather. After this, we will go into the computer and make the paper pattern, then back to leather (nice, clean vegetable tanned leather!) to make the final product!
    The initial sample is always an exploratory exercise in proportion and form - we like how this turned out, and with a few tweaks we will be eady to make a final piece :)

    I know you made this video years ago, but wanted to thank you for it. Bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas and wanted to make a leather cover, beginner as I am. Found this video and replicated the design as best I could. Was a big hit.
    Thanks for doing what you do. I've learned a ton from you.

    Sold! I need two for my Kindles. Stunning case and equally stunning video. I love that you don't have music and that there isn't any speaking. It is just you letting your talent for your craft shine. Thank so much.

    This video couldn't be timed any better. I've started doing leatherwork as a hobby (have a couple of your patterns already) and was just planning on doing a cover for my kindle!
    Excellent work as always!

    I bought a spring grab bag from you guys and in it was a card wallet in blue leather. Every time I have it in my hands I smile a little bit because for some reason that blue leather makes me feel dapper! I can’t wait for you guys to make some blue bifold wallets!

    Here’s a but comment. The video was great but I guess I had different expectations. I thought you might talk through how you determined the design. How do you decide how much of a border to give yourself around the piece? Additional 1/4” inch on the height and width dimensions? That holster design is awesome for sure, do you plan for the devices exhaust ports ahead of time or is the fit not so restrictive it causes overheating? Great work, just would love to hear the thought process behind it all.

    I would like to see a belt held cell phone carrier with a wallet attached to the outside of it where the wallet would be the same size as the cell phone carrier and would fold down to retrieve credit cards and money, this would form a dual purpose pack.

    I would like to know what you put in between the two leathers for stiffness? They don't seem to in the material list.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it's Weaver's pattern sheet, sorry about that! www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/65-4110/pattern-sheet-24-x-45/pr_8876/cp_/shop-now/kits-patterns-books/patterns/leather-patterns
      $5 gets you a whole bunch of it and it's great for making multi-use patterns as well as adding a thin stiffener layer like we did here

    • @DavZell
      @DavZell 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Corter I'm curious... are you familiar with those really thin, flexible cutting "boards" used in kitchens? How does the pattern material compare to those? Is one thicker or stiffer than the other? I've used the boards for different projects, buying small sets from dollar stores. Your link is less expensive, but I wondered how they compare. Thanks!
