Nice video. You have done a good job gathering information about driving in Europe, so here are some additions from a German: 1) you MUST stick the Austrian vignette on the inside of the windscreen, preferably top left or right corner, but not in any tinted areas. Just laying it on the dashboard is illegal! 2) There are no rules for passenger cars below 3.5 tons restricting entry into Prague or anywhere else in Czechia, as far as I know. All rental passenger cars in Europe will be below 3.5 tons. I totally agree that it's a great idea to rent a small car in Europe. 3) Highway rest stop toilets are never free, but things differ from country to country, e.g. in Germany you can almost always pay with credit card, and you get a 1:1 voucher that you can spend in the restaurant. Other countries are....different. BTW, in most countries there are free toilets on rest areas without restaurants and gas stations, although those are quite ...basic. 4) As someone already wrote, the German green "4" sticker does not equal Euro 4. Usually your rental car will be only 1 or 2 years old and will have the best emission class (in Oct. '24 that's 6e) and no restrictions, whether it's got a diesel or gasoline engine. Therefore, you don't need to worry about emission classes in Germany (and Europe) when renting a car! Be aware that your German green sticker doesn't mean anything in other countries, and you might need different stickers in certain cities/countries 5) You definitely don't need an internationla driver's license in Europe, but it can't hurt to have it. 6) About fuelling up your car: all over Europe you can pay with credit cards, so the local currency doesn't really matter. Extra tip: NEVER fill up your car at a station net to the hightway, they are horrendeously expensive (like 30% more than normal fuel stations off the highway or in villages or towns. Google Maps will show fuel prices to compare! Hope that helps. Good travels everybody!

Great video! One small correction, green 4 sticker and Euro 4 emission standard are not the same thing. Green 4 sticker is the highest that you can get, and it's issued for cars with Euro 4, 5, and 6 emission standard.

Thanks for the compliments! Glad you enjoyed the video and also thanks for the note.
We were reading more about this and saw some different articles on the topic. Here's an interesting one that talks about different countries. In the section for Germany, they mention the 5 and the 6 stickers that are being planned for release. Have you heard anything else about these locally?

Actually, there have been no border controls from Austria to Germany for many years, just as there are no border controls the other way round either. This has to do with the tense security situation in Europe, now even because Russians are able to enter other EU countries via Hungary! Thanks to Viktor Orban, the flawless ;-.)) democrat.

This is so cool! I have a friend in Austria that I want to visit. I'm still trying to figure what I need to do to drive in Europe with an American Driver's License. (I'm from Illinois.) It would be cool if you did a video on what you have to do to drive in Europe. I had read about the Vignette. I wasn't sure how far your video was going to go. Also, do you need an international driver's license and how do you get one.

Hi Jeff, thank you! You can get an international driver's license from AAA that is valid in Austria and many European countries. Check out 12:19 of this video where Devin mentions this. You don't need a AAA membership to get it, just pay $35 if you want them to take your photo. I think it's like 30 if you have your own, maybe less. Have fun in Austria, you will love it! The drive is beautiful too

One of the touch screen mania cars of VW. 😅 Aren't the Austrian vignettes meant to stick on the windshield? The Swiss vignette must stick otherwise it's not valid.

@@gargoyle7863 hehe so true.. we drove 1h without ac before figuring out it was powered through the screen 😆
They didn't say to stick it to the windshield to be honest, just somewhere on the left lol

@@aKnightlyStory The vignette cannot normally be scanned by the surveillance cameras. I would be interested to know whether your car rental company received a ticket (fine) ;-))
