I plan on keeping it until the day I die, and then I'll pass it on to my daughter, who is turning out to be a gamer like me and her bio dad. :) And for whoever still insists it was Muslims' fault that the track was removed, I'll repeat this one last time: For a long time, Nintendo of America forbade religious content in US game releases. The track was removed because it contained religious content--Muslims did not protest it. Gregorian chant probably could have been used in its place, but it wasn't, because it was a religious content issue rather than a religious group protesting the use of their prayers/music in a game issue.

***** To me without the chant just sounds like I'm hanging out at some low-key gathering with someone banging on the drum...the chanting getting louder and softer gives it an ominous feeling like your going to wander into a room and see some demonic ritual going on or something.
Having a unique atmosphere is really important to getting that memorable quality to a dungeon. By the time Ocarina had come out in the UK, the chanting had been changed to the same synthetic sound used in the Shadow Temple. While this was alright, it made the two dungeons feel less special. The ominous shrieks and groans obviously suited the Shadow Temple more, too. Listening years later to the original chant for the first time, it was obvious that this was meant to complement the temple of fire's aesthetic. I only found out because I played a gamecube rerelease and was shocked to hear no vocals at all - which is exactly as you describe it, just low-key jangling on a tambourine without any depth or history.
To me without the chants they actually dumbed down the wind (kinda) sound during the song. In the newer one it's just not powerful that's why i prefer this version over the 1.01 or 1.1. whatever
Yeah same here. If I understand correctly, the chanting was actually sampled from an Islamic prayer track or something like that. Save Data made a video about this which is where I got that information from.
Nah, nothing to be understood, just sensitive gorons who can’t tell the difference between their own holy music and a generic chant sample from a $25 pack
Love this so much. I like how kid Link went into a cave, but adult Link goes into a formal temple. Really makes you feel like you're doing more important stuff.
To me, this sounds like a gathering of people (or Gorons, whatever you please) trying to expel ominous creatures (Dodongos) from their sacred place of worship, The Fire Temple.
I always imagined it being the imprisoned gorons praying for salvation from their impending fate before being sacrificed. Similarly, I always imagined the pipe part of the Forest Temple music being Saria playing her ocarina while trapped deep in the temple.
Fittingly enough, a "Fire Temple" is a place of worship in the ancient religion of Zarathustra, known today as Zoroastrianism. It's based on the teachings of an Iranian prophet, Zoroaster; the religion still survives today to an extent, but many Zoroastrians were forced out under Islamic rule in the Middle East.

Probably didn’t have the time for it, as the game was already released, and they needed to make more cartridges, so they had to sacrifice the greatest part of the music for more production.
@@Noid I’d like to think if they could of they would’ve made it like the original. Seriously the Muslim chant made it seem like the spirits of the temple were praying which was cool.

My siblings also started chanting this but misheard what was being said so they chanted "the African millennium". LMAO!

Reading these comments makes me realize exactly why Nintendo had to remove the chanting.... these were supposed to be prayers of peace and everyone’s commenting on how scary they are. It’s a blow to an already stigmatized religious practice.
i personally find it to sound a bit unnerving, but i can totally see that its supposed to feel peaceful after reading what it means. too bad people just think its scary.
The unnerving part about the chants are not the chants themselves, but the context of the chants. From what I can tell through playing the game with the chants in, the gorgons are chanting while imprisoned in the fire temple waiting to be fed to volvagia. From what the Arabic may translate to, they are praying to their representation of god for help or are chanting that they only see their own representation of god as exalted. What makes it chilling with this context is that the gorgons are either really desperate or fearful of what is going to happen to them, or they are fearless and rebuke volvagia and gannondorf. What people saw at face value was a blow to the religious practice... the game being updated to not have chanting in the fire temple instead was the blow for the practice because the opportunity for people to (experience a clip of it was there in modern media and obviously has affected many), and also highlights our shortcomings as humanity to not look beyond face value and into context.
I've always imagined the chanting is the Gorons accepting their fate and praying for salvation, giving each other calls of comfort as they prepare to be sacrificed.
This is totally not me listening to this while going through the Fire Temple because my game's Fire Temple has the Shadow Temple music in it 😭 ... yeah... actually it is me...here ... listening to this to keep the traditional feeling alive while going through the Fire Temple 😂😂😂
I have this on while playing Ocarina of time on my 3DS and i am on the fire temple right now i purposely listened to this while doing the fire temple. i grew up with this version of the fire temple theme i have the the original gold 1.0 cartridge from when i was 6 years old back in 1998 i still have it to.
What's so bizarre is I feel like I remember the chanting, but when I go back and play the game it's not there. But I have the version of the cartridge that has the crescent moon Mirror Shield...
+The Kind Gamers ALL versions of ocarina of time on the N64 had the crescent moon mirror shield, it wasn't until GameCube they changed it. However, they changed the fire temple theme and the red blood to green blood in the version 1.2 cartridge of Ocarina of Time.
So, in the new version, they kept the same melody of this chant, but used that classic video game midi synth sound and added harmony? I think they pretty successfully kept the essence of the chant in a subtle way.
Seems fitting to me. This dungeon does take place deep in an active volcano after all, so it should sound chaotic and scary, but also calming at the same time.
If that super volcano ever explodes, this song would fit perfectly with the aftermath, lava and death everywhere, everying charred, dry and ash covered.
why is it a mix of scary and pretty? I dunno-- i only played ocarina of time with my mom when i was very young i don't remember anything about it.... I'm replaying it currently though!
This music was pretty awesome. Probably my favorite dungeon them from the original Ocarina of Time, and that's no small feat either since that game had some really good tunes.
Nah, they should just have left it, freedom! Can't just remove everything that may offend someone, or you'd have no game at all! Why do Muslims get the right not to be offended, even unintentionally, while other religions and atheists are deliberately mocked all of the time!
Ah, yes. I still have an original copy of the game that has this unaltered version of the song. Still has the star and crescent symbol too. Always going to be treasured to me.
If they will make a switch remake, they will never add this back because, in earlier copies, this version has religious chanting in a foreign language and Nintendo did and still has a policy to never mention real-life religions. Which is why isn't in later copies
I'll just come out and say it -- this is the superior version of the fire temple music. The kids who came after us think that the chanting is out of place but it wasn't. I never once thought that as a kid. In fact this music was an integral part of the original experience. I think the new music sounds like a lazy replacement- a copy-cat of the original music but using pre-existing sounds from the original game.
I like to imagine the Gorons are chanting and praying to the goddesses (Din specifically cuz I like the idea of Gorons favouring Din) or directly to Volvagia to spare them. And afterwords they're just thanking link or the goddesses for saving them. Am I f***** or do you agree?
What if i told you what there sayng? it is creepy and weird but they say "In the name of Allah, the most merciful and beneficial, In the name of Allah, the most merciful and beneficial, There is no God, but Allah." "God is good, Believe in Allah" "Allah, the almighty God" when i fund out i was scared outta my pants
Sound like the Bongo Drums in Fire Sanctuary of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Fire Sanctuary is the last dungeon of Skyward Sword after completing Ancient Cistern (Water Temple), and Sandship (Spirit Temple) in this game.
I think this is so pretty and I'm sad it had to be removed. I understand why and I respect that Nintendo didn't want to offend anyone with a prayer that's not supposed to have music in the background but it adds this sense of sacredness to the Fire Temple and it makes me wonder if Volvagia was ever actually evil or if it might have been plagued by something that made it rampage like Valoo in Wind Waker and the Gorons didn't understand what happened to their guardian deity and so the Goron Hero killed Volvagia

+Kelsey834 I agree with you the chanting makes this temple so creepy.
In the newer one it's just not powerful that's why i prefer this version over the 1.01 or 1.1. whatever
I completely get why this version was taken out, but I love how this version makes it sound like people are praying within the temple as you explore.
It’s reciting from the quran for Islamic prayer ,beautiful ❤️ isn’t it
@@Motivation-tk4fragreed. I'm not even muslim but I've always found the Islamic prayers beautiful and spiritual
@@Motivation-tk4frpowerful as well
Love this so much.
@@HybridGib fun fact: the reason that muslims style their beard in a medium length with no moustache is to be the exact opposite of the zoroastrians with long hair and moustaches.
@@Potacintvervs Interesting, makes sense, too!
@@HybridGib *A LOT* of civilizations had fire temples and worshipped in them. Everyone keeps trying to bring this back to Arabic history. This game, along with the Japanese (who created Zelda) have *NOTHING* to do with Arabic history or culture. Chanting and these styles of beats (bongos and tambourines) are shared by MANY cultures around the world.
I remember this temple and the shadow temple always giving me the heebeejeebees when playing this at the age of 7. Makes a whole lotta sense knowing the chanting is actually real practice tradition, boy did people get away with a lot of things back then. Sure scared the crap out of me for a week just trying to figure out this temple
The shadow temple music sounded like shit though. Those crappy bad midi noises. It’s the same stuff they replaced this with.
Unfortunately i wasn’t born in the 20th century and get to listen to this masterpiece, until I watched this video.
This was the fire temple song I was first exposed to. everything about it filled me with a sense of I am in a special place and I am not worthy of being here. This is an amazingly atmospheric song. shame it got edited.
The heavy wind blowing effect adds so many atmosphere to the song.
They could've replaced the chant with someone else, its what made the temple so haunting and beautiful. Gave it a spiritual mystique but at the same time made it foreboding.
Probably didn’t have the time for it, as the game was already released, and they needed to make more cartridges, so they had to sacrifice the greatest part of the music for more production.
@@Noid what about the 3ds remake?
@@mrfivegold The remake was from a different team, not developers of Nintendo. Even if it was, I’m sure they still wouldn’t bother.
@@Noid I’d like to think if they could of they would’ve made it like the original. Seriously the Muslim chant made it seem like the spirits of the temple were praying which was cool.
I don't even remember this as a kid, creepy as hell for video game music in a Zelda game of all things.
Not all versions have this music, it was removed in later versions of the game
Alxinho959 Yeah i'm aware of that, I played it on the original edition, just don't remember it.
+empire yeah it removed because it is an Islamic chant and was removed for religious purposes
+empire i remember hearing it i just never really thought much of it

This version sounds beautiful.
I’m playing the “censored” version of OoT rn and using this gem of a video as an overlay going thru the fire temple. Thank you for this upload king.
Sadly my N64 was sold to help my grandma fix her roof after a bad hailstorm awhile back. But thank God for the emulators and them mostly being the original versions, otherwise if I got a new one or had to track down an original copy of OOT, I'd've missed out on the chanting. It gave such a great atmosphere that made you uneasy but also curious

Those were the days
i didn't even knew about it a long time ago

I remember hearing this when I first entered the temple and my siblings and I got scared. We thought that it was whoever imprisoned the Gorons chanting this and that it meant we were running out of time to save them. My siblings also started chanting this but misheard what was being said so they chanted "the African millennium". LMAO!
Listened to this in a sauna.
Very trippy experience...

I actually had the chanting version. It was ingrained into my mind after first hearing it as a kid.
Remembering those days trying to find those damn Gorons. Always thought I was missing one.
I would frequently rent the game before i owned it. The rental store had multiple copies. I guess they had some newer and some original copies. I thought the game was possessed the first time i heard this version
i need a vr version of this. the game gives me enough feels as it is imagine virtual reality of this!!
It sounds like how I would imagine it to sound if you were on some kind of elevator down to hell and you just hear the chanting on your way down 🤷🏼♂️
My favorite temple. The music and vibe was just on point. Plus you got to rock a red tunic 🤟🏽
Mine too.
I understand why they changed this, but I'm still so grateful that i got to grow up with the original ocarina of time game
It kinda sucks that over here in PAL land we got ver1.2 on release so there wasn’t this music, or the Mirror shield and blood. Oh well.
One of my favourite temple/song.
Wait I remember hearing the chanting in my version, so I have either version 1.0 or 1.1?
You have version 1.0! I have the same version! (:
MedicalRainbow Awesome!
It could be 1.1 as well. I have a 1.1 with chants. Any gold cart is 1.0, but there are some grey ones too.
Check your cartridge. Two numbers and nothing else is 1.0. Two numbers and an A is 1.1. Numbers and a B is 1.2.

However, they changed the fire temple theme and the red blood to green blood in the version 1.2 cartridge of Ocarina of Time.

i think its the gorons telling darunia to make volvagia go away before being eaten
No this is islamic.
I was scared of the fire temple because I thought the gorons were crying for help because they were about to be eaten.
So, in the new version, they kept the same melody of this chant, but used that classic video game midi synth sound and added harmony? I think they pretty successfully kept the essence of the chant in a subtle way.
Nintendo tried I guess

The Qur'an should never be used as Music, it has it's own Melody
I'll just come out and say it -- this is the superior version of the fire temple music. The kids who came after us think that the chanting is out of place but it wasn't. I never once thought that as a kid. In fact this music was an integral part of the original experience. I think the new music sounds like a lazy replacement- a copy-cat of the original music but using pre-existing sounds from the original game.
