holy cow! the tone is amazing. he goes from dirty gritty to clean and everything in between...the chording...wow! so clean and perfect. geez this dude is amazing!!!!!!!!
In my book he is the best out there right now. A touch of Les, Chet, Jimi & others. Great writer, interpreter, arranger, you name it. Watching him live one time & the guy next to me says, "Geez that's a Howard Roberts thing!" It sure seemed like it.
Thanks for posting these, Johnny A has just been added to my list of favorite guitar slingers. Wind Cried Mary, the Night Before, Memphis..... fabulous.
Johnny's an original player. He's never overboard. Everything's nice and controlled and never out of hand. Low, deep, dark and dirty. I thought he was strictly a jazz man. Wrong! Lots of fun to watch play.
Man, Johnny A wasn't just crappin' dixie cups when he said he had designed a guitar that could just about do it all! The only downside I can see is that axe is so hot it would likely burn the eggs when it cooked me breakfast in the morning!

Johnny A has taken on the mantle dropped by Danny Gatton in my opinion.
