I could also call it E200 e stands for class, 200 stands for engine, in my case 2.0d, but that would be confusing since there also is brand new E200 (W212)

Yep, this is an amazing car. It won major praise in every review I have seen. I wouldn't say it's underrated because it is killing it in comparisons. People just aren't paying attention.
The viper is what a true sports car should be. Great on both the road, track and in a straight line. It is severely underrated cause people think its some big engined tin box with plastic trim and broken switches from America.
They killed it with that long wide hood, especially once paired with the iconic low-slung design. They knocked this one outta the park and I feel like going forward people will continue to look back at this automotive icon and covet/chase after it for distinguishing itself to be counted among the select few greatest as well as the most memorable cars for the rest of time
This is one of those rumours which surround this channel just like the whole bumper to bumper unlimited mileage warranty. Hopefully one day Doug will talk about these things so we know.
HEY DOUG! I was wondering if you wanted to drive and review my "1999 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE" with {189,000 miles} on it. Please let me know ASAP. With regards, Sean.
With all due respect, he doesn't. And the community would have very little to gain from it, sir. Look through the type of vehicles he compares, and then feel silly for asking. Lol Cheers!
Doug, I am completely shocked by your presentation on this video. I am so used to your modern vehicles where you are smooth, quirky, and highly entertaining. You were all those as well, and you're more of those on your newer videos. Keep growing sir and see you in San Diego.
This car doesn't start at $130,000, it starts at $111,000. People who are buying cars in this price range aren't looking at a Ferrari or Lamborghini but they are looking at a Jaguar, Porsche and Maserati. The Porsche 911's are such beasts that it's hard to get this car instead of a Porsche 911 but for those who want to stand out go for the Mercedes AMG GT instead.
The 911 range that starts competing with this car´s engine (v8 4000cc) is the 911 turbo, starting at €200k. Seems like a substantial difference to me. And please, don´t mix German cars with Indian-owned brands. Jaguar´s time was about 20 years ago, look up their mkt share.
nope. sod off. he said that it wasn't even American muscle, my point was to show that Americans didn't pioneer the muscle car. I'll take that 5 quid though.
I stated an opinion, and you've done nothing to refute that or address it. Then you resorted to personal attacks both times. Haven't "diverted" anything. And I'm male, thanks. Keep bringing the hate, it sustains me.
Yes it drives well and sounds amazing and is also good at cruising but way more importantly - it is not only the most beautiful Mercedes in decades, it may very well be one of the best looking cars on sale today. I know looks are a matter of taste but you can't really say it doesn't look good, especially at the rear end.
I had one of these. For the sport car variables (looks, acceleration, steering, luxury, sound, reliability), it was not 1st of my many cars, but it was the best all around sports car I ever owned.
He left out that's an edition 1 model. I own one, they come with additonal touches like carbon tips on the exaust and lip, blacked out grill and 8 spoke wheels instead of 5.
meteoricthrone I've honestly not seen a bad word written about any aspect of this car. It would seem that the only people who underrate it are those who pre-judge the Mercedes brand and haven't actually driven it.
Phantomwhite The only bad thing I've seen is that there are some that wish the styling were more outrageous, but I like the subdued design. Less attention when you're driving around
meteoricthrone It's a Mercedes, of course it's going to be subdued. If you want outrageous styling, get a Lamborghini! I find it hilarious how some reviewers do that, they use a point that is either blindingly obvious or totally inappropriate in order to criticise a car. Case in point - I read a review on the MX-5 that had "no back seats" as a negative, I shit you not.
I have one of these but the newer model facelift. It’s excellent car. I have an m6 too and the gt is more fun than that. Tho I will say the m6 is more in its element on the highway. Gt sounds AMAZING too - get the performance exhaust
Atermagister German Engineering is the best but when it comes to reliability, it’s the not best in that category. Don’t get me wrong, the Germans can build one hell of a car but making it reliable is something they should look at more.
Small correction, has a biturboed engine. Its a little different because the two turbos are completely independent from each other. One turbo for each side of the engine instead of a smaller one and bigger one for different rev ranges.
And I love the classic dimensions of this car. Long front end with a really short back, and you sit nearly on the rear wheels. I bet acceleration feels like a direct kick in the back.
Freddy, just covered up the front and I have to agree, the back end does look like a 911, but on the viper front end, the front has no dodgy panel gaps, it's nothing like a viper. :)
"it's a mercedes, how good could it possibly drive?" are you serious? whoever would say that has absolutely NO IDEA about cars and especially German quality
Everything true here, simply nailed it. This car is just a pure capsule of emotion. Having experienced the new GT S at legendary Nürburgring 24h on Nordschleife last weekend was just unbelievable. Yes, the 911 is the most pefect endurance sports vehicle of all time, but delivering real awesomeness was only provided by the sound and appearance of this roadmaster.
AMG really nailed it with this thing. They basically took the SLS, and made it better for the track and for the road. However, I still would take the SLS. It is just insane in every way. The curves of the rear end, the sound of the 6.2L N/A V8, and the gullwings. So while the SLS is completely illogical in almost every way, and the AMG GTS is pretty much the perfect mix between track and on road, I'd still take the SLS. I think its just something about the character of it.
trueman mann the black series is, but the “normal” SLS can be anywhere from $150-250k depending on mileage, options, years etc. Got a vid on my channel cleaning out the intake if ur curious lol
There's just no reason to get this car over a comparable 911. The 911 offers all-wheel-drive, a manual transmission, and rear seats (small, but usable in an emergency and great for extra luggage/crap).
Rear wheel drive, sounds better, looks better, practically as fast around a track, and it's just different from the 911 which has been so good for so long that some people just get kind of bored with it. Some of these things are subjective but car buying is made off of subjective observations anyways.
TheCJSChannel You can get the 911 in rear-drive. Looks and sounds are subjective, so that's immaterial. Being practically as fast still makes it slower. 911's are respected for a reason: they are NOT boring. I've driven the new GT-S, and it has NO soul.
TheStallion234 I wasn't saying that was better or worse as a fact, per say. I was giving my personal opinion based on my personal driving experience. My other points were objective.
You can only get rear drive in the lower models. The most comparable 911 to the gt-s is the turbo and that is only all wheel drive. It is a little slower but not by much, and most people will never notice the difference. I also acknowledged that some of that stuff is subjective but you said it has no soul, which is in the same category. I'm not saying it's for you, but it has its place because of those subjective qualities. People have different tastes and goals in a car.
@@camirocz fully agree! i've had the pleasure of driving the GTS edition 1 and GTC roadster, as well as the v6 and v8 F-type variants, audi r8 v10 plus, and the db9. all completely different. Forget F-types if you're after a true drivers car. Db9 is dated, but comfortable and v12 sounds incredible. R8 v10 plus is fast and capable, but souless and almost too easy to drive fast. Pick of the bunch: GTS or GTC. Fast enough for anyone and they demand respect. The most exciting to drive with an incredible engine and sound and zero lag. very well balanced, but without a gradual learning curve it will bite your head off!

I own a GTS ed 1 and a S550 cab... Im not an SL buyer however I like the SL and its hard top vert, its way more cushy than GT, more sport than S, perfect balance in between. Its not a replacement for a GT or S, it'll stay for a long time
i miss the gullwings. =/
The sls black series is like a aventador price now $400k+
josh heredia yeah those cars were so cheap and then after the gts came out they spiked up.
Ashish Patel yeah the gullwing doors go way back with mercedes but idk why they went to regular doors for the new ones but if i $400k laying around im buying me a lfa over any mercedes
that lfa v10>>>>> mercedes
josh heredia i want to drive the new nsx. i bet within 2-3 years itll be under 150k price tag and ill want one. dont see the point in buying a new car that will loose a buttload of value.
Maybe because of weight reduction and stiffening up the chassis?
I will own one in 3 years.
best of luck man. i hope you do :)
I hope you do, this a pretty car. I NEED IT!
Same bro hope we can find it a but cheaper
All the best! I am also planning on owning one 3 years from today
Don’t forget your goal! If you see this.
I really enjoy Doug's videos, even though he's kinda weird lol
All about them quirks and features bro
When you make 120g a month. You can be weird
I feel like thats why i watch it
@The Repairers Of The Breach I'm just guessing, but I bet it's close from you tube views.
@The Repairers Of The Breach No,from youtube he gets like $25,000 to $30,000 per month
I saw one of these in a crystal yellow with the black AMG wheels and it looked AMAZING!
the SLS' look sick in that color too
None of the people I know says that the mercedes amg gt is underrated, its just the opposite a lot of people sees his car as they Dream car
well it is slower than the sls which in turn is slower than the slr, so people were bummed in the beginning.
"boring old sedans for boring old men" I never experienced anything boring about mercedes sedans over the years compared to other sedans on the market. Maybe exept some bmw's and of course the allmighty maserati quattroporte. Btw, I would rather by the GT amg then a cheesy lambo. It's one of the most great looking grand tourers out there.
kim hafslag Totally agree man, i own an old S500 and it’s a fucking luxurious beast
Slidzy same i own a E350 and i love it, the luxury and the experience
I own an Odyssey, seats 8...
Nah he's right alot of Mercedes are boring, too damn silent,no power feel,no tuning market,no sport rawness,no aggression,no stick shifts, just ol silent comfort rides, OLD PEOPLE LOVE EM!!!.I mean if thats what you like its fine but The AMG GT is a huge stand out.
The only thing what I am missing in this video is this car on a german Autobahn...
My boss has worked with a very clear goal in his mind:
to be able to get one of these. So he set an example for the rest of us working for and with him, practically living at work and doing exactly what he told us we had to do himself as well. Now, it's all paid off for him.
There have rarely been people as young and successful as him that have inspired me this much, and he absolutely deserves everything he has and has worked for thus far.
His GT S is flawless white, with black leather interior and bright cerulean stitching. It's gorgeous, soounds awesome and is a reminder for all of us what hard work can achieve ;)
kinda weird how you talk about the handling then go to a shot of you driving straight
Brake discs on this thing are bigger than rims on my w124..
E class*
...... yes, e class from '91, also known as W124
+Ed ya it called the e class. 1991*
lmao. No. it's called W124, there are a lot of e class models, but to bo specific about one you say W124 ('91 e class) or W210 ('95-03 e class) What i want to say if you dont understand is W124 is a model code, e class is a name of mb class like s class, c class etc. etc.
I could also call it E200 e stands for class, 200 stands for engine, in my case 2.0d, but that would be confusing since there also is brand new E200 (W212)
Just bought my 2016 GTS with 3,380 miles. You had some definite influence and I thank you. However, you also ridiculously underestimated this car. Did you actually go balls out? It is fastest 65mph -145mph. Craziness! Big fan.
i was really set on buying a corvette z06 until seeing this video review on the amg-gt... i think i am going to save an extra 30-40k and get myself this instead. what a beautiful car... i thought he was going to say it was wort 200k+ i was actually surprised to hear it is only 130k for what u get out of it... beautiful car.
piffdaddy420 you can even get it slightly cheaper :)
Did you get the car ? Lol
I'd rather own this than 3 corvettes heh
petar dinjes hmm...i understand people that like German cars more, but a c7 z06 would kill the amg.
Well, everyone has a different taste. Im a huge mercedes fan so gt would be my choice. Maybe you can deal test drive and try both cars and see which one is better driving car for you :)
Yep, this is an amazing car. It won major praise in every review I have seen. I wouldn't say it's underrated because it is killing it in comparisons. People just aren't paying attention.
Doug is the type of guy to leave a resturaunt review even when there was nothing relevant
Doug Do you want to review my '98 Volvo C70? LOL :D
please doug!
gabbaba1234 You heard the man, "please doug!" DO IT
surely that's an underrated car!
ktxed It really is! Or, for its age and technology for its age it is!
I think that's one of the most overrated! ...Crap to drive and not reliable...Good seats tho!
underrated? what exactly is the rating and who rated it?
He means it's not as commonly glorified as other cars that are perhaps more popular, like a Porsche or a Ferrari.
The person who rated it isn't in the right mind
The rating was 9.9.
This person is underrsted
6:57 - when Doug laughs like a Tickle Me Elmo doll, you know it's fast
the amg gt looks like a mix between dodge viper and porsche 911
Alex G he just says it looks like a viper, why do you get offended so fast?
Alex G yeah it does long hood with sloped back, i can see it
It does actually, and that's not a bad thing. The Viper is a sexy damn car but the AMG GT is just sex on four wheels.
The viper is what a true sports car should be. Great on both the road, track and in a straight line. It is severely underrated cause people think its some big engined tin box with plastic trim and broken switches from America.
Bro, have you ever heard of mercedes sls? Look it up...that's where the design comes from.
When i think abut expensive cars i think about his one. Totaly a dream car right there
They killed it with that long wide hood, especially once paired with the iconic low-slung design.
They knocked this one outta the park and I feel like going forward people will continue to look back at this automotive icon and covet/chase after it for distinguishing itself to be counted among the select few greatest as well as the most memorable cars for the rest of time
In real life it looks nicer. The low stance really stands out.
Doug, I hear you have a column on autotradr.co/oversteer. Can you confirm this?
This is one of those rumours which surround this channel just like the whole bumper to bumper unlimited mileage warranty. Hopefully one day Doug will talk about these things so we know.
Did you hear about his BUMPER TO BUMPER LIFETIME WARRANTY. Let me say it again. A BUMPER TO BUMPER LIFETIME WARRANTY.
I wish he would mention it more than five times a video so we'd know for sure
I can't find any mention of it anywhere - who told you?
Jesse Pinkman bitch
HEY DOUG! I was wondering if you wanted to drive and review my "1999 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE" with {189,000 miles} on it. Please let me know ASAP. With regards, Sean.
sean spillane when can i come pick it up
Sienna resale value will jump after Dough review!
With all due respect, he doesn't. And the community would have very little to gain from it, sir. Look through the type of vehicles he compares, and then feel silly for asking. Lol Cheers!
Matt Banks whoooosh
Matt Banks omg how old are you my dude he is making a joke and he meant it sarcastically don’t be such a smartass
Sounds like the ultimate muscle car... and it's not even American. LOL.
The Beast of Turin pioneered muscle.
Turin is in Italy, £5 your a yank?
nope. sod off. he said that it wasn't even American muscle, my point was to show that Americans didn't pioneer the muscle car.
I'll take that 5 quid though.
Oh right, you're a woman, sorry, I didn't realise, facts are not your friend, you have to divert. Tch
I stated an opinion, and you've done nothing to refute that or address it. Then you resorted to personal attacks both times. Haven't "diverted" anything.
And I'm male, thanks. Keep bringing the hate, it sustains me.
I’m driving the 2016 AMG GTS with a massive 700+ HP (ECU upgrade etc) this Saturday and I can’t wait. Full review coming to my TH-cam channel.
Yes it drives well and sounds amazing and is also good at cruising but way more importantly - it is not only the most beautiful Mercedes in decades, it may very well be one of the best looking cars on sale today. I know looks are a matter of taste but you can't really say it doesn't look good, especially at the rear end.
0:30 upvote if you paused the video to go read oversteer column before you watched the video! (or if you don't get sarcasm)
I skipped it 5 seconds.. sick of hearing him advertise it now!
Yup. Previous Carrera GT video too was sponsored.
Will stop watching if this continues.
Yeah, screw Doug for trying to make a living! Hate him for that. Ugh, the hate is so strong!
Emil Magnusson he can get by with youtubemoney, doesn't have to make me read! *cries in Spanish*
I had one of these. For the sport car variables (looks, acceleration, steering, luxury, sound, reliability), it was not 1st of my many cars, but it was the best all around sports car I ever owned.
hey I live in Ecuador. Would you like to review my microphone?
The quality of your reviews has certainly improved since this vid was uploaded.
Doug is the sheldon cooper of automobile industry
"Anybody that crashes this car, I gotta ask why" loool
This car won Motor Trend's drivers car of the year...not underrrated at all.
kraenk12 no that was the Amg gtr
He left out that's an edition 1 model. I own one, they come with additonal touches like carbon tips on the exaust and lip, blacked out grill and 8 spoke wheels instead of 5.
Every reviewer is raving about this car and you say it's underrated
reviewer does not equal consumer.
Reviewers drove the car, regular consumers look at it and assume.
You have to see the car In person I was driving and seen one in on coming traffic I almost crashed my e class turning my head to see it
Definitely one of the most beautiful cars on the road. And they are very rare.
@@illuminated2438 i especially love the back of it. It looks so clean, solid and wide. lol, hard to explain.
@@Schaufelor t h i c c is the word
@@alonemusk2312 yeah i like my girls thicc, probably no coincidence xD
Isn't this car highly rated by actual drivers. I love it.
What an awesome car. Love it
If you like this wait to you see the AMG GT-R
Thats a total beast. Its like this one on steroids.
Very nice but starts at 157k
Exactly... The GTR for me is close to a perfect vehicle
But it’s uglier
I've driven the 4.0l biturbo. It pulls extremely well and the revving is just supremely good
Now there is the amazing AMG GT Black Series with 730 horse power
These reviews that Doug has on this channel is always entertaining. This Merc is so sexy and I love the sound of the exhaust.
Is it underrated? Because I thought it was absolutely raved about by critics. Or is it even better than that still?!
Yeah, every publication I've seen has loved this thing. Motortrend commented that it was one the best launching front-engined RWD cars they'd tested
meteoricthrone I've honestly not seen a bad word written about any aspect of this car.
Phantomwhite But... that's the whole point of an MX-5. Same with Corvettes, the F-Type, etc
I have one of these but the newer model facelift. It’s excellent car. I have an m6 too and the gt is more fun than that. Tho I will say the m6 is more in its element on the highway. Gt sounds AMAZING too - get the performance exhaust
U lucky If I had one I’d drive it every day it would have 40k miles in a year lol
Did a side by side with 2016 Corvette and Gt coupe has more horsepower hidden gem of a German hot rod
Doug the type of guy to tell you it's an amazing road, then cuts to a dead straight road.
I fell in love with it the day it came out... it’s beautiful and so damn good!
Beautiful car Brother. The sound is badass! And cruising in Pennsylvanian somewhere 😂that had me laughing! 🫵😎
What do you think it is? It's a Mercedes, the best of German engineering :D
When you're sitting in one of those cars, you can really feel the quality
Atermagister indeed mercedes is really good quality
AdMyr 22 yeah but unreliable
The 'part quality' isnt good
But thats planned obsolescence
Atermagister German Engineering is the best but when it comes to reliability, it’s the not best in that category. Don’t get me wrong, the Germans can build one hell of a car but making it reliable is something they should look at more.
Porsche is triggered by that statement
Actually, the best German engineer is Porsche! >:3
Small correction, has a biturboed engine. Its a little different because the two turbos are completely independent from each other. One turbo for each side of the engine instead of a smaller one and bigger one for different rev ranges.
I own an AMG GTS Edition 1, one of 350 built. It is truly an amazing car! Glad I saw this video
It looks like they stuck a Viper front half to the back half of a 911.
Actually the rear looks like a Porsche 928. One of the best looking rear ends there is imo.
I always respected Mercedes, especially AMG-s!!!
Mentiong Maserati in the same sentence is an insult to the AMG GT S
"it's a mercedes, how good could it possibly drive?" are you serious? whoever would say that has absolutely NO IDEA about cars and especially German quality
dchris91 you are so right dude. He is so DUMB
????? He is talking about sport cars!!!
When i saw the amg gts I automatically thought of Paul Wallace from SOL, LOL!
I think its just something about the character of it.
trueman mann Lucky enough to have one in the garage
trueman mann Yes haha
trueman mann the black series is, but the “normal” SLS can be anywhere from $150-250k depending on mileage, options, years etc. Got a vid on my channel cleaning out the intake if ur curious lol
I saw this car at my MB dealership, I'm not going to lie, this is what dreams are made of.
Throw back to young Doug!! Watching this in 2021
There's just no reason to get this car over a comparable 911.
You literally just said that looks and sound are subjective and then went on to talk to us about the car not having soul
This thing is on par with cars like Aston db9, Jag F-type, Audi r8
Its better trust me.Way better than the jag f type.
I've driven the Aston Martin Vantage V8, exact same engine as this GT, really awesome engine, awesome experience
Yup, pretty much.

"Underrated?" Everyone who knows about cars knows this thing is a monster, honestly, any AMG for that matter.
You said, "I'm out here in West Chester Pennsylvania somewhere . . ." I used to live in West Chester Pa. as a kid. I absolutely love the look of this car and It is a very worthy successor to the SLS AMG. The top of the line version of this car was available in a very bright green. Thanks.
