A Chinese developed game about a Japan-Influenced/overtaken America, during the Showa Era, as well as a zombie apocalypse happening. Oh yeah, it's all coming together. As a Japanese-American, I approve.
There is nothing historically accurate about it, and as the developer says, it was created completely out of stereotypes. So why do I feel so nostalgic?
Because that is not what the developer meant. The game was developed based on their childhood memories of Japan and Japanese culture, so that is why you felt the game accurate and nostalgic.
Because despite the stereotypes and ridiculousness, you sense the game was made with soul and a real lived experience. Literally made with childhood memories in mind. Hopefully when it launches, the gameplay lives up to expectations as well.

not that weird if u know history. They were expected to eventually buy America, and own the Earth. If Japan's economy does find another miracle, can it repeat the 1980s level of dominance or is there to much competition nowadays?" I do not think westerners possess adequate perception to feel "not weird" because the reality is based of the economical and military coloniztion of the US on Japanese soil after ww2, never vice versa.
Japan-ized America, set during the Showa era? And this happened, not due to some alternate-history shenanigans involving Japan winning WWII (the most obvious route to take!), but because Japan really did become an economic superpower during the 80s and bought out America? Fascinating concept! Though the devs are Chinese..? They're gonna have to juggle the cultures of two different nations, from a very specific era, that sounds like a pretty tall order!
