Great find Matt. I love rare cars like this. With all that’s been done to it, it has a great chance of becoming a survivor. I recently picked up a 1998 Volvo S80 with the 2.9 6 cyl engine. According to how many are left there are only 15 on the road. Probably due to the fact that the auto box on the 2.9 is made from warm chocolate and is a case of when, not if, as to when it fails.

I think you could do some really interesting films on bringing this car up to top notch standard. If it’s ULEZ compliant I think folks will be interested in cheap practical family cars like this. What’s it like to live with daily? Running costs, reliability. Sure it’s not most exciting car in the fleet BUT it could form part of your ‘very cheap runaround projects’ a nice contrast to the more interesting cars you own. Just a thought 😊

Love these. That's a bit of a Unicorn; so many of them, especially the Eleganza had wildly impractical light coloured interiors. Those darker seats are the best ones to have in a family car. Boot is a bit small for a family. The Renault Scenic Mk2 like I've got is a little larger but the boot is massive by comparison. It's quite a find. I think you'll find you get very attached to it.

I had a Fiat Idea up until last November, mine was identical to that one and had the very economical 1.3 jtd Diesel engine, a great car, very roomy for its size, drove well, and I even used if to help with my home move.
They are a great Idea, and seem to have been forgotten about in this country but I don’t think they sold all that well hence the relative scarcity of the car.
Sadly mine developed a few issues that made keeping it uneconomic including needing a new gearbox, I replaced with my Rover Streetwise.
If you’ve got a good one Matt it’ll serve you well.

What a perfect little car for going on and off town, for chores, groceries and why not, summer trips with this huge sunroof and dual zone aircon. 1500 pounds seems to me like a great deal. I was thinking before the reveal that the "new" vehicle would probably be a Fiat Panda (or some such of a thing), and I was surprisingly close. Let the missus use it for 6 months (she won't need heated seats during the warmer months anyway), which will allow you to spend some time on other members of the fleet, and then move it on thereafter (it will still have 6 months MOT left, so should be easy enough to sell). Adding that it's already been coated with metal moth deterrent is a big plus. I'd guess most of the oily and mechanical bits could be sourced from other Fiat models but things like trim or maybe exhausts might take a little more time to get going on how rare these are. Anyway, a full 12 month ticket for a decent practical ULEZ compliant car in exchange for Beryl the poor old rusty MOT failure is OK. I do hope Beryl will rise again and get back out onto the open road once more.

It looks a cracking car though.
I think I would be keeping it as par of the fleet rather than a flipper.
As for heated seats, Mrs F would be well advised to buy some sheepskin seat covers. No, don’t laugh! bought some for my non-heated seat Suzuki Swift and they work a treat. Warm in Winter and cool in Summer. The idea came from looking at what airline pilots sit on.
How is the work on the Rover V8 going? You’ve not mentioned it since it disappeared from your garage.
    Best wishes from Wirral.

I really do like the idea of the Idea, but I even more like it's Lancia sibling, the Musa which I would want some day. Unfortunately both are really rare especially here in Finland. The Musa is as practical, just with a different styling. They do sort of remind me of my 1998 A-Class, although the A-Class is a bit wider and more technologically advanced, it's way shorter but the interior space and tallness is comparable.

The price is 10000 euro or less.
    Could you help? Any suggestions?
Do you recommend automatic hyundai i30 (kia ceed) 1st generation or 2nd generation ( some of the 2nd gen have dct ????) , or should i opt to automatic diesel astra k ( if yes wich engine and year)?

Love your new car. If I could have that in California, it'd be sold. We had a Fiat 500L and it was pretty blobby, and the ergonomics were bad, but it was a sleeper with the 1.4 multi-air turbo and giant brakes. It was very fun to disgrace the giant pickups. when they tried to run over me.

I used to own one of the original Merc A Class. This reminds me of that car down to the unique A pillar windows and was even a very similar colour. Incredibly practical car that you could remove the seats and turn into a small van. I would hold onto this and trade the Mini, subject to the spouses approval of course.

Never heard of the Idea, but it goes to show the Punto platform is underrated genius. It done well in the day, should have done better. Come on Fiat, more genius like this please. The car would make a brilliant every day driver for someone looking for a budget family vehicle.

Good "IDEA:" to do a video of this car, as MOST of have never been in one! I had no "idea" they were so spacious (sorry!). A great view, great sunroof and a relaxed sounding engine! I want it! Enjoy your "new" car.

I had one, loved it until some idiot rear ended me and wrote it off. Fun and practical, amazing what you could pack into it, used to call it the 'tardis'. Never let me down. Shame they never really caught on in the UK.

Owned a Stilo for a time with the same engine, think it was active spec so not as posh as your Idea. It was the first fiat I ever drove and it was genuinely not bad.
