T00THY 0RiFiCE People are always confused by me rereading books over and over, but with ASOIAF in particular, there’s so much more to discover by rereading.
That's why I clicked this video, because it appears on the first page of results when you search "Frank Herbert", so I thought he might be talk about it here. Strange he did not.
Both the books written by GRRM and the myriad of examples of great books that he expressed in this interview.. nothing wil ever come close to the Dune Saga by Frank Herbert. Science fiction or not, they are the best books ever written, with the follow-up being Isaac Azimov's foundation trilogy.
I am new to reading. Agot is my 1st and only book. I am looking for mindblowing stories with a bery good start. Do dune or tge foundation series have good start.
@@anonymousman1282 Both have slow starts and are more intellectual studies of history, religion, ideology and philosophy told through a sci fi medium. If you want an awesome sci fi story from start to finish, then maybe try Metro 2033. Pretty sure the audiobook is on youtube. Also Starship Trooper by Robert . Heinlein is an amazing sci fi. Kinda slow at times, but starts off with the main character landing on an alien planet in a mech suit, blowing random shit up.
He's read Elric of Melnibone which is what the Witcher took from. Not trying to be an ass but let you know so when the Elric game comes out you know it isn't stealing. So did GRRM but he was open about it. Valyria is essentially Melnibone, dark magic kingdom ruled by Dragon lords and suffered a great doom and collapse of an empire. Brynden Rivers or Bloodraven is essentially Elric, an albino born to royalty who does heinous acts for what he percieves as the greater good or necessary. They both wield a dark blade and have a rival who wields the sister blade of said weapon Elric has Stormbringer, his rival Yrrkoon has Mournblade, in ASOIAF Brynden Rivers AKA Bloodraven has Dark Sister while his rival wields Blackfyre. Both rivals fight over who matters of succession and love the same woman, throwing fuel onto the fire of said rivalry. Both stories are renowned for being dark, not shying away from sex and violence. Elric descended from the Dragon lords of Melnibone much like Brynden descended from Targaryen dragon lords of Valyria. Witcher which is often defended as not being plagiarised because Geralt is a monster hunter and Elric was an Emperor forget that Elric in his first appearance and for most of his stories was a mercenary with a predilection for the supernatural known as the White Wolf for his white hair and pale complexion. Also has a raven haired sorceress love interest. Also magic referred to as chaos, came into the world through the conjunction of the spheres in both stories. Also both Elric and Geralt want nothing to do with intrigue and prophecy but destiny keeps involving them which is why they hate destiny. Their are differences to be certain but I think they were made to avoid a law suit. Did you notice how in the Witcher 2 and 3 Geralt doesn't have pale skin as referred to in books and first game? The Witcher 1 got called out from taking more, the evil sorcerer was basically Yrrkoon, they had a speech in the gane that was eggregiously stolen about how Witchers don't serve good or evil, law or chaos, they serve balance which was straight up taken from the explanation of the Eternal Champions who pioneered the concept of not good or evil but law and chaos, which Warhammer later took, including the chaos symbol drawn by Moorcock. The Eternal Champions serve neither, but the balance. The Witcher 1 also uses this chaos symbol and even has a plot about a black clothed chaos worshipping army, not referring to Nilfgaard FYI they don't worship chaos. Geralt was even referred to as being turned albino in the codex. 2 and 3 distanced themselves from these aspects. Moorcock doesn't mind if writers give credit, he's said this before in interviews but Sapowski won't. Also Legacy Of Kain a tremendous game series was based on Elric but Dennis Dyack said that outright, down to Kain's appearance, mannerisms and even his cursed sword that steals souls. It is quite ironic in regards to Warhammer how they stole so much but sue and copyright strike for tiny things like a book called Spot the Space Marine being copyright striked in court even though it was proven the term existes long before Warhammer. In fact Moorcock who himself said he doesn't feel a sense of proprietary ownership towards his works was so angered by how blatant Warhammer was that it was the only company he threatened to sue. Their version of elves and eight pointed star, the names of some of the law and chaos gods and Malus Darkblade is straight up Elric. Not trying to be annoying just wanted to give some love to the OG.
Idk if that would be a popular series. It would involve places like the empire of Yi Ti, the bloodstone emporer and the religion of the black goat. It would hard to make it different enough to be believable but similar enough to our reality to make it watchable fore your average audience member. It might also be a very similar story in many ways. There is a series of forts made of a substance of mysterioud origin on the border of a land know as the grey waste where demons came from during a long winter but they were fought back by a single hero. Another thing is that George clearly never intended on expanding on eastern essos. Like the way he mentiones the deep ones and the stone of the season chair/battle isle, he mentioned it becaus it sounds cool and adds depth/mystery to the world. It would most likely be better if he didn't expand on it. That being said I would definitely watch this show.

i dont agree with chani = ygritte, they have different personalities and serve differently to the story in my opinion. But Leto = Ned Stark yeah that’s spot on
Great books that come to mind .... the bible ,Lord of the rings ,the hobbit the silmarillion and now this man's entire works must be added to that list of mine .... Great imagination this man ... I know what the books of asoiaf are based on but there is so so much more to them . .....parts of real history intertwined like a thought tapestry!!
how this guy has any respect left blows me away. He ripped off DND and Warhammer to come out with a book of 20 year old ideas. Not one aspect is original YET he cant even finish it wtf ahahahaha

ASOIAF is written in such a way that you have to reread the books in order to find new things and you enjoy them the same every time.

Dune is overrated trash. Nothing comes close to ASOIAF
Dune is certainly one of the greatest novels ever written. And Paul Atreides is possibly the greatest character ever conceived

The next series focus on westeros and western essos, how about a movie that the setting is at eastern essos.
