My wife and I do this song. Stopped at a winery in Missouri last year, Sunday afternoon, not far from New Madrid. Only other couple there was from Arkansas. I mentioned New Madrid, they said "we love that song". Grabbed my guitar & played it, along with a couple other songs they knew..... great afternoon.
Definitely my first time ever hearing of them. Remind me of the grateful dead. Definitely going to listen to more of there music. Thanks for the turn on Shawn. Peace ✌️
I'm so happy to see a band like Uncle Tupelo getting some reaction-attention. There are some great bands that get overlooked by reactors. Thank you for doing them. Try also the Avett Brothers. The lyrics will make great sense to locals from the Midwest. New Madrid is a seismic zone in southern Missouri. There was a guy in the early 1990s who predicted a huge earthquake there. In 1812, this seismic zone caused some huge earthquakes that could be felt all the way up the East Coast and caused the Mississippi to briefly flow backwards, according to witnesses. Children in the early 1990s, if I recall, in cities like St. Louis and the region around there were practicing hiding under desks in the event of this earthquake prediction would come true. And the song is about that. "Mr. Browning has a prediction." ;)
Uncle Tupelo was amazing, your comment is right about Tweedy, he went on to form Wilco, Jay Farrer went on to form Son Volt, was an amazing Bakersfield influenced country band. From Son Volt please check out Left A Slide from the Album Straightaways
I think you are right on about the meaning of the lyrics, at least from what I can gather. You have to remember they came from a tiny town in Illinois, so that may give some additional insight into the lyrics.
Great song and reaction♥ I'm not very familiar with Jeff Tweedy's pre-Wilco music, but I love Wilco. I would recommend Wilco "Impossible Germany" Live on KCRW. Also hope you will check out more Blue Rodeo sometime (they're considered alt-country among other things).
Here's another duet to give a listen, if interested. Alicia Keys & John Mayer - If I ain't Got You - Gravity (Better Audio Quality)" (by the channel: didjital vibe) --Alicia Keys and John Mayer performed this amazingly soulful duet in Time Square in 2016.
St. Louis man here. Damn this takes me back.

Cool, I'm from central Illinois and proudly claim Uncle Tupelo. They're known by roots music fans thru the US and Europe.

I hadn't heard this band, and I'm not a big country music fan, but I like them! I agree with the person who said they remind him of The Grateful Dead.
Prefer this type of music to modern country.

They're great and I'm really into their album Okemah And The Melody Of Riot 💥🎤🎸✊
@@mattjohn4731 Fantastic. Great to hear that. The Trifecta❤️
It is pronounced New MAD-rid. Wiki the New Madrid Earthquake. Possibly used as a metaphor in the song.
A totally new listen for me. Never heard of them before. I like it, it is a cool sound!💜

This is Jeff's song. I've loved him and Wilco since hearing the album Summerteeth.

Appreciate the Sublime shirt! Maybe I'll shoot you some more Sublime reactions soon.
