Mani is a bombastic political observer. Whether it is true or not, he goes to the extreme and talks aloud on any issue. This is his usual self. His trademark is to appear that he is neutral and without bias. The truth is otherwise.
Truth is simple. Neither could it be reduced nor magnified. Udayanidhi's elevation is a foregone conclusion both within and outside the party. Upto this point, Mani is right.
But to say that there is a backlash outside the party among people is his own wild thought and desire. It is not the ground level truth. People view DMK as a party, be it headed by Stalin or udhayanidhi.
The only problem is among a couple of seniors. Hereto, only Duraimurugan is the odd man out due to his vaccilating stand on and off the stage.
He is not even popular in his vellore constituency. Duraimurugan is not so active in party works like the other two senior ministers - Nehru and Periyasamy. Both are silent and popular among the cadres.
In this way, they have tacitly accepted Udhayanidhi's elevation as deputy C.M. Duraimurugan is a spent force. He is not even popular among the party cadres.
That may be the reason that he is prone to harking back to his old association with Karunanidhi. His present political value is nuisance within the party. That is what he is doing by his speech and gestures. This appeals to the press but is disregarded both by the party cadres and public.
