To everyone saying that Conductors are not important. Yes true on smaller system this would work but NYC system is to large and Conductors are vital for the public safety, systems time and efficiency. In NYC its all about speed and efficiency via public demands...hence time is $. The MTA has to have a reason for EVERY lateness, its has to report EVERY lateness to the Federal Government. How is one Train operator going to handle 1200-1500 people by themselves? You have no idea how tuff it is. I do. when things are smooth its easy but when things happen ......its no joke. and you have to have valid reason and explanation for how you handle a situation. everything is about timing and accuracy.

Also, the MTA would have to do what London did and replace the trains with conductors (as they call them in England, 'guards') with trains that have in cab CCTV.
Otherwise, the driver will have to lean out the window and judge for themselves when to close the door, or rely on a platform attendant. So in other words, you might have to rely on a 2nd person anyway!

@Team Epiphany Tyler that's exactly what it is. At outdoor terminals, or when there is a delay and the train is outside during inclement weather, in order to prevent it getting water in the train, we partial close the doors and only the emergency door is open to allow people to exit and enter the cars. In cases of hot/cold weather, we partial close so that the HVAC works properly. That's also why the windows are always closed. If you enter a cold car, chances are a window or multiple windows are open and the cold air messes up the HVAC in the car making the car cold

  • @abdullaharif6455

Weirdly, on the NYC Subway's trains that have two 5-car sets coupled together, the conductor doesn't close the doors of both trainsets at the same time. Instead, they check one trainset and close the doors for that, and then do the same for the other one. This looks really odd and is kind of antiquated in this day and age. It also takes more time. OPTO can and does forcefully fix this problem. However, even without OPTO, they can have the conductor live camera feeds of the whole platform, and after seeing that the whole platform is clear, the conductor can close all the doors of all cars simultaneously with the press of one button. This is how the closing of doors work systemwide at virtually any other rapid transit system in the world, no matter the train length (except the driver is doing this, of course). I have never seen the closing of doors of one trainset after another anywhere outside NYC.

@@MrMam-yo7qp safety is just a way to override, don't get me wrong it provides jobs I'm just saying it's pointless. As you can see in the video the lady closed the rear section of the train first, and people still got caught in the doors, she was about to reopen the doors but the local recycles allowed all the obstructed doors to fully close. Then she closed the front section. All you need is two CCTVs to scan the platform in the operators cab, play the stand clear of the closing doors announcement, and close the doors. People are gonna get caught in the doors regardless so it's not like the conductor is there to stop the doors from closing on people. MTA is just so old school with things.
