Hey Daniel, its Daniel here. When I saw 153334 I was sure that used to be the commuter train I used to take most of the time to Coventry from Nuneaton. When you said what route it used to go on I was dead chuffed! many times this got me back from work at Coventry when it was raining hard and i couldn't be bothered to bike it back to Nuneaton. I'm so glad your saving a bit of my past and it will be used for something awesome! I'd love to see it again sometime. if your interested I'm pretty certain i have some clips of it running in the 2010's or so if you want me to send them over. just to keep more history with your Loco...... all the very best bud! :)

    Hi Daniel,
Very pleased for you owning your own train. As a retired railwayman I appreciate your excitement. A couple of notes for you if I may.
These trains are known as units and talking of which, you may have realised that one of the cab ends is smaller than the other, this because these Class 153 units were conversions from some Class 156 units which had 2 carriages. So by doing this BR wete able to create 2 powered train units out of 1 two carriage train. You were correct about the sand boxes, however they are only deployed in slippery rail head conditions to aid traction when stopping and also to aid starting from a standing stop.
I used to drive the electric version of these but in my earlier Driver training days I did get to drive yhe Class 156 version from which the Class 153's were made.
All the best with your new venture.
    Take care,
    Jon B.

    • @rayhenwood3833

@@rayhenwood3833 Sorry pal, but the ones I drove and Guarded on were 156 units, some of which went for conversion. Never saw 155's on my region...

    • @stevedwheel555
      @stevedwheel555 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Actually they were converted from class 155s, not 156s. I worked for Hunslet-Barclay at the time and we converted 35 sets into 70 single car units in 1990 onwards. Class 156s have always been 2 car units occasionally reformed into 3 car units. Never single car.

  • @IronHorseRailways
    @IronHorseRailways 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +108

Daniel.... Keep it in a rolling state, fully drivable - mainline ready.. you COULD then drive it from your sidings all the way up to Foxie's yard in Leyland - with a proper driver of course.... You could still refurb it as you wanted but keep the cab and safety stuff all in working order!😍
A small sliding spur at your HQ with a catch point can be it's home... But it must be able to connect to your loop to drive it in and out! You could embed the rail too, so road traffic can pass over it no problems..
    You know you wanna!
We still have things like this today, called Observation saloons.... So come on, I wanna be able to model the Asheville touring office!!☺️☺️☺️
Nice footage of D9009 too, love a Deltic!!
    Also:
Sanders are for traction in slippery conditions, you wouldn't use them in good conditions 😉😉😉
You could even move it via rail, would be SO much more affordable than paying a haulage firm £10,000 to do it!!
Brilliant video! Exciting times for Ashville! ❤❤

All I can say: Kid in a candy store.
    Congrats! :)
    So ideas ....
From the side that would face the fenceline on the train - instead of putting TVs everywhere, make the windows TV's.
What you can then do is play a video of the train moving across the landscape - but edit with some ads, and houses you've built.
That way when people go into the train, they'd kinda feel like they are on a train.
Since they'd focus on the moving'ness - you also get to show off what you have done since you have their focus.
Then, what I think would work is keep 2/3 tables and chairs - keep them on the side of the 'tvs'
So you'd have the 1.5-2m of a gap.
That also means when you go into the train, you see half train, half ashville for a real show.
The side where you have the entrance to the yard - put a couple of short depth desks - or a long counter.
You can then place, coffee water, magazines, sweets or whatever.
So if someone wants to stand there is space, but you also keep the original feels of the train.
I would max that at 3/4 of the length of the train - have 1/4 be a open area or an idea from your ideas.
That gives them a journey whenever they enter ashville - a lasting impression which is a seller.
Then what you can do is setup your C4 -
people walk up to the 'entrance' - the one side door.
use a motion sensor to open/close the doors - and switch on the lighting and scenes.
    - this can also trigger a notif and alert the staff to come through to collect or what not - they can also 'speak' on the 'intercom' like a real train to the guests.
Then for the other sliding door - add your access control on that, and staff can enter/exit no issues - but guests can't.
Then add some microwave detectors (more accurate to determine presence - so no one there, close entrance and turn off tvs/lights (efficiency)
For me what I am thinking about is the experience, the feeling you get - which is also marketing in its own way (quite important).
You make a statement when they enter Ashville
They get to see the automations and systems for houses, they get to see your yard (the video you could play could be the train coming into and the unloading of the yard from the other side... even though its not there and cant really see it)
Seats get recovered with ashville covers, floor could be a concrete floor (or fake concrete - weight) - building.
    Ideas :)

i dont think ive seen anyone this passionate about a DMU, its genuinely infectious how happy you are about this. as a steam railfan in the states, well done t'ya. i'd recommend trying to make it more capable to make publicity tours so to speak, it can be a standard reception but with an easily removable interior for if you should want to take it to a site near the rails. i think some variation of option two would be appropriate for such a task, personally. dry rails and smooth running.

Option 2 I think is best, you could get some visitor hi vis jackets and obviously your ashville umbrellas in case it rains.

As a long time (and I mean VERY long time) train enthusiast, I am so overjoyed that you are putting the lovely class 153 another use as they are rapidly departing passenger use in the UK after decades of use. They are absolute workhorses and a class I travelled on a lot growing up, so it's great that at least one of them is getting sent to a nice alternative use.
But what a great afterlife you are providing it, especially if you do as you say, a full restoration on it!
Edit: I am very jealous of this and would love to have a 153 craned into my backyard as either a man-cave or "clamping" type building.

This is great. It would be fun to have a mechanic keep an eye on it so you are able to roll it up and down the 30ft of track in front of the office. One serious thing I have a question about is infrastructure. This will be a great way for ashville to be able to bid on contracts anywhere accessible by train and truck in the UK. One thing you may want to consider is getting 2 or 3 cars so you can put an excavator and a front end loader on the rail, so you can get stone off the rail anytime and anywhere you can stop a train. The USA has coal loading cars, that will empty out the bottom. Does the UK do that? If you emptied stone out of the bottom of the cars, and belted it up into trucks, that would save you from making a mess with an excavator.

have you considered renting this out to film companies? the film industry is BEGGING for modern trains, the mk1 coaches is currently industry standard so i can see people paying good money for a modern carriage

😂😂😂😂… why haven’t I seen your channel before, or more importantly YOU!… you’re AMAZING. I mean I know about the train manufacturer, but YOU. you are what makes our country great, you are your mother’s son, you ooze life energy. To those who love life and the pursuit of happiness, well done Mum for making the world a better place. I’m no train spotter, no real train enthusiast, but I love infrastructure and is the reason I work in a rail environment and live on the canal.

I can't lie, at first sight, I have liking for many UK trains externally with green livery, and this is one of those. It being a 1 carriage unit specifically (makes it feel that more special to me). For its green seats and other fixed/installed elements in the initial design process. I feel the green landscape brings it altogether in showcasing. Very much look forward to progress on this!
