If there's something I'd change in gmod: Murder its leaving little bit deadzone around bystanders before the footsteps appear for the murderer. As the current (and old) format goes, odds to dupe murderer by running away and hiding/doubling back rely on player colors and parkour. If the foot prints wouldn't got completely to the current location people could try running away and hiding.
Sometimes it makes for hijinks, but you're mostly correct. As you said, the only great moments are when several people of the same general color scramble about for a bit. Otherwise, it's really only super needed when a map has secrets (i.e. that one spooky mansion where a wall is a cover for a slide only visible from outside)

Also, the killer could swap to anyone from any previous round, giving them a greater selection of alibis. In short, that would heavily bias the game in favor of the murderer.
They’ve streamed it already (although it was cut short cuz servers crashed) and said it was a lot of fun, and it’s a very popular game so they’re almost definitely gonna make a let’s play On it
