    This is cool. People don't realize how much work Sheila put in with Prince. I love hearing her speak on it. People seemed to think that his world revolved around Wendy and Lisa. That's far from the truth. Outside of Morris Hayes, she was probably one of the people who worked with him the longest. I hope we get to hear some of the Vault material that the two of them worked on together.

    Having edited many many songs and commercial with a "yellow grease pencil" and a razor blade for radio stations was no joke and have spent many many many hours of work...Now with pro-tools and adobe audition, cool edit and a bunch of other digital platforms many of the artists or people nowadays could never do what we did back in the day! Thank God for technology!

      Thank God indeed. When I started to play around with music, I would find a song I liked and take parts of it to rearrange into my own version of it. I did it on a dual cassette recorder, and you really had to know how to count on beat, sometimes even down to 1/64th notes if you wanted it to be a clean version. I kinda wish I could do that again, but then I remember that working smart is better than working hard.

    Released Summer of 1985, what an amazing year to be alive. Who was there? How old were you/ What were you doing?
    I was 17, left (escaped) home on the east coast and living in my own place on the beach in San Diego, Prince, one of the constant cassette tapes in my Sony Walkman with an Equalizer with the bass always turned up too high, thinking 'wow I have my whole life ahead of me'. Here many of us are now, middle-aged, now with an MP3 player

      i turnt 20 jun 8 that yr, i was on my first u.s. tour with roger whittaker: the guys in the band were very kind, as was roger and his mgmt. not sure why i was there, or what was happenin', haha, it was great and it was terrible...i was a roadie, and sold records and tapes in the lobbys at the concerts.., it was inspiring, and discouraging all at once... don't know how or why i got the gig.. it was some kind of a set-up, or weird fate

    • @tinfoilhatter
      @tinfoilhatter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      prince, i admired, big-league, in 1985, he was a lot like me, he didn't-need-no drummer, nor any other player, in order to make bomb tracks, the rupert hine tape, _the wildest wish to fly_ fell into my hands... at first i scoffed at roger and his songs, this oldster was a joke on local tv commercials, but wildly successful worldwide... and this oldster was good! several of his songs, still stand up along with all the pop-lifers..
      i was more humble, and more an egotist than ever, each day since that weird, mandela-affected year...

Pan left and it's off juuust a bit, enough to give it character. *2* I'm glad he didn't allow Elvis Costello to release a cover version. EC is just so full of himself imo. *3* So the crowd noise is NOT from the Rolling Stones show at the L.A. Coliseum?

    When you can change EVERYTHING digitally on Pro Tools or whatever, it ends up taking a lot longer in the studio. Much faster just to be an extremely good musician - like Prince and the people he chooses to work with are - and use tape splicing to change the order of things. The hairiest studio story is how Strawberry Fields was put together.

    Wow she looks really old, the last time I saw her was back in the 80s, when she looked young and vibrant. I know all of us get old, but it really hits you when you haven't seen a person in a very long time. I felt the same way when I saw Carrie Fisher after 30 plus years too.

    The host forgot to asked Sheila when it cuts into the crowd noise was it a random crowd noise or was it the actual audio of the time Prince got booed while opening for the Stones back in 1981.

    I love pop life but I’ve stayed many times before that it sounds like a rough demo, NOT. A finished song and if the tape process interferes with the final product, it makes sense to me now since the quality isn’t good.
    But with all that said it’s a great catchy song and Neon Indian did a cover that sounds like what prince would have wanted the end result to sound like.
