I thought you did a wonderful job on your dress. Your podcasts are always a great joy for me to watch. Take care. Oh I use red heart yarn on my Afghans.
I really like your hinterland dress and the "oversized" jumper looks very nice on you. Not to worry! I have sewn for many, many years and the corduroy you used is perfect for this style garment. I wish I had one just like yours! Good job.
Hi Amy. Your dress is really cute and it looks really good with the shirt that you had on underneath. I think that Mary Maxim acrylic yarn has worked well for me. When I was in high school (which was a very long time ago), my mom and I would order their craft kits.
One of my sons is also in need of a new sweater for church! He picked out Forest green yarn from hobby lobby. I love your hinterland, that pattern is on my wish list!
The Hinterland dress pattern is such a fun one! Love the fabric you used and that it has a story. I’m currently going through my kids’ sweaters as well and seeing who really *needs* one and who just wants to go yarn shopping with me 😂
Congratulations to the winners🎉 The dress is super cute. Very functional pattern and personally, I like how the top part of this one fits you, better than the 1st one. You could make the bottom part a smaller size to get rid of some of the puffiness at the back. Such a pity about the pilling yarns in the blanket. Maybe after washing those yarns will settle down.
I love using Red Heart Classic and Super Saver (I think they are the same yarn) for my afghans. They have held up much better than other yarns I have used. They have a tighter twist than other yarns used. I have noticed that in addition to the yarn being soft there is that with the twist not being as tight also.
Alright! I binged all your episodes from the beginning and am all up to speed lol! I have to say though, it’s been a stressful year for me and your videos have been so calming. Lots of great content! And man you have made a lot of things! Impressive! Now I need suggestions on another podcast I can binge.
Oh, I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed watching my videos. That means so much to me! 💓 There are so many other podcasters that I love, but two of the ones I have “binged” are The Crazy Sock Lady & A Homespun House.
Hi I’m new here but I wanted to say I made my first hinterland from a thrifted curtain and I think it’s the best dress I have made so far. I tell everyone it’s my Sound of Music dress lol. I have some lightweight corduroy that I might need to make into another hinterland. I like your version you are wearing.
Your Hinterland turned out great & what a clever use of that corduroy fabric! Maybe if you went down a size on the skirt portion you would be happier with it since the skirt wouldn’t be as full. Just a thought. I actually thought it looked very nice as it is.❤
One more thing I was going to say about blankets. Mostly I work in wool. I don't think I have ever made one from synthetic fibers. The wool ones I have made (several) have been from long fibered wools that are known to wear strongly (ie. no merino or super soft wools which will pill because their fibers are shorter and not strong). Mine have been from Leicester Longwool mostly, which is what our sheep are, and they look wonderful still after years or wear. No pilling. It is all in the type of wool. The tradeoff is that the strong nonpilling fibers are not the cushy "oh so soft" wools. I have taught classes on what wool to use for what successfully, so I know a bit about what I am speaking. These strong, durable wools are the ones the early Colonists used. They needed things to last with time such a premium and processing was "from scratch".
Your dress is amazing! I wish I had the sewing talent that my mother has. As for your large granny blanket it is so good. Think of it as getting stressed like when you buy stressed flooring. It has the worn look to it. Amazing job on everything, truly!
congrats on finishing your second Hinterland dress. It looks great. Your faith blanket is truly a beautiful piece and it's going to be so big. I enjoyed the episode as always and am continuing to work on my MKAL shawl. I'm ready to work on other projects that I've set aside while working on the MKAL so hopefully within the week I'll be able to get back them. I'm trying my hand at weaving on a square loom to make a throw and it's been a nice change from the 499 stitches on the shawl as I'm able to complete a square in just over an hour. Have a great couple of weeks.
I would try a stable knit like a ponte for that dress but be careful not too light or to9 heavy weight…. And a sewing machine lightning, some come with a stretch stitch or long zig zag you should test and see which has the stretch you need…. Even with a serger I use these for some knits fyi…. Oh and a stretch woven would be great for that dress and be comfy too
I usually make my blankets with Stylecraft special DK. They also have an Aran version. But I don’t know how available that is in the states. The blankets I made my nieces are still like new and they’re over ten years old!
I was very sad when a stain glass afghan, which took a year to make, started to pill and fuzz. I used Hobby lobby I love this yarn. After that experience, I vowed never to use acrylic unless it was non-pilling or anti-pill. Premier makes great yarns like this and hobby lobby did have a low pill option (not sure if they still sell it). I've also bought anti pilling yarn from Ice, Hobbium, and Valrita. Hmm I wonder if stylecraft yarns pill.
I find that for 100% acrylic blankets, Red Heart Super Saver is the best. I have afghans from my grandmother that range from 15-40+ years old. They’re all made with RHSS and there is no pilling or fading. I know people like to talk down about RH, but it really does get better with use and age. These afghans I have are the warmest blankets I own, even the ones that aren’t very big.
Love your podcast. It’s great that you are so adventurerous in your sewing. Just a suggestion. You might want to work on bust dart placement. There are some excellent TH-cam videos that will help with that.
Amy, love your jumper, corduroy perfect for colder weather setting in. Love all your projects as usual. I always look forward to your podcasts!❤️
Love your dress and jumper and all the projects!!😊

Beautiful Hinterland Dress🤎🪶

Stunning works

Oh I forgot - I thought the facing on the Hinterland was a little tricky as well 😊
Congratulations to the winners🎉

sounds like your sewing machine is animal-like… it can smell fear!
🤣Yes...it has a mind of its own!
