Orange Empire Railway Museum has a couple ALCOs with some intense bells haha. Part of me appreciates the safety aspect and that bells are part of the railroading experience... I think we can mellow this ones bell a bit.
@traintraktrav... &PNW Rails also if there was a "BAM" the spotters would not have yelled WOW... they would have yelld a different expletive which i cant repeat here due to the fact that women & children frequent the site...
+MrJohnRosenberg Been there, done that with a locomotive before. I know a particular switch and a particular locomotive that will pick the switch and sit quite happily with the wheel flange in the middle of the switch point. That's why you have yardmasters and switch crews that know their railroads very well - you learn what will climb the switch where, keep an eye out for it, and simply walk it back on the track before the very big bang and curse words.
understood i was just attempting to add humor/ sarcasm to the other guy's comment. i used to volunteer at the museum in question as a docent. i'm glad to have ole 4449 back in operation
No. The 700 is a Baldwin E-1 Class 4-8-4 built in 1938 for fast passenger (and later, heavy freight) service on the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway (SP&S). The SP&S only ran between Portland, Oregon and Spokane, Washington (It never ran to Seattle, Washington, but railroad officials kept Seattle as a part of the roadname.) The 700 and the 4449 are my two favorite steam locomotives.

Sp&s e-1 #700
Hobo Shoestring just put up a video of this very engine a few weeks ago. Today’s date is 10-23-2022.
Every time they shunt the 4449 it makes this harsh hissing sound as if were breathing weirdly...
I heard that the RSD5 324 is going to Ogden, Utah for display.
It's there now. They have plans to restore it back to Utah Railway #306
2010-2024

I hope it gets a lot of attention in Utah

I would donate lots of steam locomotives to Portland Oregon.
Is the 700 a GS-1 or something?

Two Bells E-1 one of 3 in her class and the only one that didn't get scrapped
derailment already at the new sight of the ORHF
197 is not looking so hot!
I'd take it as the only way to fix the recurring problem is to redo the switch, but while that sounds fairly simple, I have a feeling that it's not.
