I agree. I saw them on replay again. My favorite part was the opening when Stockard Channing singing from Pal Joey sang with Aaron Tveit singing Im Alive very flirtatiously. It was 2009 when they didnt care of the 40 year age gap. We read the Outsiders in High School in Tulsa where SE Hinton is from.
Although I strongly disagree with "The Outsiders" winning Best Musical, I wasn't surprised. Many of the "younger" Tony voters were deeply connected to the book, so they were more moved by the show than perhaps others. It's a great show, but, IMO, not the best.
That was so fun! Glad y'all had a nice--albeit long and late--Tonys night! And congrats to you both on a tie! I did like how it wasn't a sweep and many shows got a little Tony love. I'm super excited to go see winners Appropriate, Stereophonic, and Merrily this weekend! Can't wait to finally see what all the buzz has been about :)

MickeyJo the real winner this season is Broadway as a whole - what an outstanding season and the best yet post-COVID and one that is drawing a new generation of theatergoers in. I am a huge fan of yours but am truly disappointed that The Outsiders didn't resonate as much with you and Aeron and I hope if you come back that you see it again. I saw all the nominees and found The Outsiders to be extraordinary on several levels and believe Danya Taymor also deserved the Best Director win. On the medley - I respectfully disagree with Aeron, they needed a chance to show Brody, Sky, Josh and that rumble sequence - the blocking and camera work may not have been perfect but no single number could have done it justice. I hope you guys get an invite next year - your work is really outstanding. I really enjoyed your interview with Sam Tutty - bring him with you to Broadway next year please!

Get a VPN. Anytime you want to access programming from outside your home country a VPN is going to be your best bet for doing so. NordVPN is who I currently use although I've also used ExpressVPN in the past and they're just as good but they're also slightly more expensive. Good luck!

Agreed about spreading the love. I was also surprised Maria Friedman didn't win, but the only outcome I'd change if I could is for Eden to get best actress. As you said, all the noms were deserving, but the more I sat with her performance the more I found to celebrate in the complexity and power of it, not to mention such difficult material. And I would've liked the Lempicka family to have something to celebrate.

I think you have different coverage because we didn't see the preshow/red carpet/extra awards. (Either that or my husband conveniently left all that out! LOL!) This reminds me of once upon a time in the 90s, my theatre friends and I had a Sweeney Todd viewing party where we had meat pies in assorted flavours (priest, Swedish [meatball], etc.) and one of the pies had a fingernail in it. Whoever got the fingernail won and got to slit everybody else’s throat with our special effect razor. One of my friends didn’t have time to construct a costume, so he wore his street clothes and a sign around his neck that said “Fresh Supplies” (if you get it you get it 😆)
I was happy for Shaina Taub. She deserved it. I was also happy for The Outsiders, which seems flawed but tells a worthwhile story. I felt like Illinoise deserved a little more recognition and perhaps should have taken best orchestrations (my hot take).
When I go to NYC to see shows, it's hard to balance seeing what you find most interesting vs. shows that may close or not tour. I'm happy the awards were more spread out among shows this year. It is too bad for Water for Elephants though, I really enjoyed that one. I don't typically see plays but I'll definitely see Stereophonic, though it sounds like a play/musical hybrid and I'm happy to see it got extended
Might I make a suggestion for your Tony party vlog next year? How about you and Aeron do a shot for every win you guessed right in your prediction video? I grew up in Canada where The Outsiders was also required reading in Highschool, usually in the 9th grade. The other big thing about The Outsiders is of course Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 movie version. If you were a pre-teen or teenager in the US and Canada back in the 80s & 90s the movie was almost seen as required viewing, primarily because of the actors who became such big stars. Also in school a lot of teachers would show the movie in class after finishing up with the book.

There was a diner type burger restaurant in Chicago that somehow was medieval with an Arthur character and knights of the round table, and for the life of me, I could not figure out why they did not name the restaurant Excaliburger 😂 I also think that Applebee’s should name their appetizers Appletizers…I was an English teacher, so I make up things like this constantly. I think I should really go into marketing 😂😂

Heartbroken that Shoshana Bean didn't win best featured actress in a musical, i started to cry. wish Hell's Kitchen performed No one with Maleah and Shoshana. Congrats to Hell's Kitchen selling tickets through May 2025. Hell's Kitchen and The Outsiders found their fan bases.

I got 19/26 for my predictions which I was pretty proud of. Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe winning were my favorite moments of the night.
I originally thought Jonathan Groff won during Spring Awakening’s Tony sweep. I was shocked he didn’t and that it took so long for him to win.
At tonight's performance of Merrily, when they get ro the Tony part in It's A Hit, the place will EXPLODE!
A one-minute standing ovation there was!! The audience was loud and wild the whole night but I doubt much of the footage will be used in the film

it is required book we have to read in either middle or high school. also, it is blockbuster movie in the 1980's.
