Testing Out The New Sony ZV-1, Vlogging Gear Talk & Seeing The Baby's First Tooth! | Home Vlog

In today’s vlog we hang out at home for another home vloooooogggg! We used the Sony ZV-1 for the entire vlog, we realized that the audio isn’t as full sounding as it normally is on the Canon G7Xii, so we’ve ordered an external mic to try out in the future, hopefully that’ll fix the audio issue. Everything else about the camera seems to be great so far though! Then we fed Jackson some new foods, sweet potato and green bean, he liked it, so that was good! We were worried we started the fruits too early and that he wouldn’t eat the savory veggies. We’re also still working on the baby sign language with him. Then we show you our baby food prep stash, we have so much already and we can’t wait to try even more foods with him! Then we try out an external mic that we have on hand, it does sound better with this mic (Rhode video micro) but it's just too big for this camera. We also get a good shot of Jackson's little tooth, which is exciting! Then it's dinner time so we make some Sloppy Cheeses and Jenn talks about a funny vine and we do a little bird watching from the kitchen window. After dinner we get Jackson ready for bed with one of his favorite books, Goodnight Moon and then we talk a little bit about his current sleeping habits. We're still trying to get him to sleep more at night but with think he tooth is causing him to wake up every few hours. Hopefully one day we'll figure it out. Then we do some cleaning in the kitchen and get dinner prepped for tomorrow and Tim talks a little bit about closed captions and clear masks, what do you think about the clear masks, have you seen them, do they help, let us know in the comments down below! We end the night with a chat about how we're postponing our Father's Day celebration until next weekend, but we'll also be celebrating Jackson's 7 month milestone, how crazy is that!? Happy Father's Day Tim. My daughter had a difficult time sleeping when she was growing. It ended up being she was not getting enough to eat prior to dinner. We had to give her cereal with her milk prior to going to bed to fill her. Every child is different. Wishing you luck!

Edit: As a black person I am in no way surprised a publisher said that. Black stories of positivity are always shut down sadly. They love to read books about gang violence and such but stories that break stereotypes of the black community are not pushed or profited from.

The way it sounds is that the publisher wasn't interested in stories about "fathers" but might be interested in a story about mothers. The publishing industry is a business and it is only going to publish books that sell. It's a very liberal minded business, but it's still a business. There is no place for emotions.
The market for books right now is dominated by a female audience. And rejection letters are the standard response. Writers get hundreds of rejection letters, with most being form letters that include no personal information at all. If you're rejected by one publisher you move on to the next one. And do your homework to find out if the publisher is even going to be interested in your book.

Jackson looks like Jen! ♥️ he’s adorable. My sister as a new mom gave her son (who’s now 30!) prune juice upon doctor order but didn’t tell her dosage amount so she gave him the same amount of prune juice as he was taking of milk (8oz).... the results, you could only imagine! Lol

Hey jenn and tim! Since you're having problems with his night sleep, I would suggest separating the feedings from sleep time. Don't let him fall asleep while nursing/drinking. Also a bottle of formula might also help a little, since it's supposed to keep them full longer, helped my baby (4 months). My pediatrician also advised to stretch out the breaks in between feeds..start that slowly and gradually stretch it out.. hope it gets better.. I know how hard it is to wake up 5, 6, 7, 8 times a night. It got better for us and it will get better for you too!:) hang in there! Btw he seems so happy even though he doesn't get good rest at night!😍😍

Oh yes! The sound with the external microphone on the Sony is as good as the videos from companies that have professional sound techs. Because we play TH-cam videos at top volume any noise or echo in the sound gets magnified, so the difference between Canon and Sony and between built in mic vs external mic is immediately apparent. We became fans based on your beautifully edited and charming videos and it’s truly icing on the cake to have such improved sound. Thank you for caring!
Love that you are teaching Jackson sign language. Our daughter is a deaf ed teacher. She taught her twins sign language, it was so helpful with knowing what the twins wanted.

I just have to tell you that a lot of times before I head out to work I quickly rewatch so I can get a glimpse of baby Jackson. He makes me smile. He is absolutely beautiful and I just love your home vlogs I think the most. Thank you for allowing us to come into your home. ❤️
I started giving my son bottles of pumped milk at bedtime and that helped him sleep through the night and he’s only 10 days younger then Jackson.
When she said how many times he woke up at night, I almost spit my water out. Yikes!!! Lol
I had to do that too with my younger son. Bigger evening meal and then a bottle of pumped milk right before bed. Did well for a couple months, then at about 8-9 months he started getting up again every 2 hours because he wanted to nurse back to sleep whenever I went in - he would refuse to go to sleep until I nursed him. We finally decided to send in my husband instead of me. He would take one look at him and lay back down and go to sleep, because he knew dad couldn’t nurse him! By then it was just a comfort thing, but he slept much better after about a week of dad checking on him. Babies are smart!

Yay for signs! Yes that is correct for “all done” or “finished” but it is only one motion. So palms facing in toward your body then a smooth motion turning palms outward. 👍 You guys are doing amazing!💛

Love that you’re doing sign language. I recommend just doing regular American Sign Language. Sometimes the baby signs are different and you might as well teach him ASL so he learns a second language. “All done” is one sweeping motion from the center out.

This is technically correct but when I was teaching my babies sign language they said that sometimes babies will modify the signs because they don't have the same dexterity that adults do so when I would do the correct sign for all done the baby's ended up doing the sign that you're trying to teach Jackson we then understood that to mean all done so I think if you teach him that now that's okay but when he gets older and can understand the correlation between a word and a sign then correct it
These are all good advice. I was explained that its like you are holding two plates and then you turn them over.

Of course you mentioned the audio can easily be tweaked. I'm glad you both are happy with it. Jackson is getting so big and he keeps getting more and more adorable by the minute! I feel like he is comfort feeding at night now. At his age, he really shouldn't need to eat throughout the night. Especially since he has solid foods during the day. I would look up night comfort feeding and find a solution that works best for you guys. There's a lot of different methods, and when you find one that works, everyone will be happier.
Also, try 100% prune juice mixed with water in a cup for his poops.

Hey guys sorry to tell you but the sign you’re doing as “all done” is actually the sign for applause. The signs are close but going back and forth how you’re doing is for applause.
Angela Pace well as long as they associate the hand sign with the action of being all done, it doesn’t really matter which sign they use.
Evan N if they plan on using more signs it will matter because Jackson will get confused. And if he wants to learn ASL later it will affect being able to communicate with someone who uses sign
I've always watched you since I started following your videos a few years ago, with captions on (because English isn't my first language), and although sometimes it catches different words, I can understand you very well, even with your recent videos with your masks on. Big hugs for you all 🤗, and for lil' Jackson, he's growing so fast, OMG 😍.
My kids both nursed a couple or few times a night even well after 8 months. I remember being very tired. I remember hearing of babies that took formula and slept through the night but I never wanted to do that. Just do what works for you. And know how wonderful nursing is for him and that yes eventually he will absolutely sleep through the night. Is it ever possible to take a nap with him during the day ? You are doing a great job. Jackson is so adorable too

for dishes and stuff. wash as you go along or right after. Wash, Wipe mostly dry and put on the drying rack. But why not load up right up in the dishwasher and run. You will save water that way and give you more time to relax.

Sleepless nights. I do not miss. I’m sure you have heard a million times....sleep training is a bummer for maybe a week but then sleep! Sleep and happy baby! I had to sleep train my son at 8 months when I could no longer function going to work as a nurse due to lack of sleep. Literally after 4 nights my son could soothe himself back to sleep and started sleeping through the night. It was amazing. My babe became a happier baby bc he was sleep deprived waking-up. Talk to your pediatrician. The book I used is healthy sleep happy baby. Just throwing it out there. Good luck!

You can freeze your cookie dough! Just portion out the cookie dough in a single layer on parchment paper on a tray then pop them in the freezer! When they're frozen you can put them in a ziploc bag, then take out however many you want to bake. We bake ours for about 1-2 minutes longer than if they were thawed.

Making Jackson's food is so much better for him. Kudos to you both! Have you thought about getting a vacuum seal machine to remove the air before freezing? My husband was skeptical, but after using it once he is a real believer. The food quality is so much better if you vacuum seal before freezing. You would still freeze it in the ice cube trays, but then vacuum seal it afterwards to lock in the freshness.

Loving the new camera. My husband has his but hasn’t used it yet. The audio picked up a lot of the background noise whereas when you put the external mic, it didn’t pick it up. Sounded better. The picture quality is great (watching on a 65inch TV) and the focus is so fast. Can’t wait to use ours. Thanks for your views on it

Hi Tim and Jenn..what I used to do with my daughter to help her sleep is I used either a rolled up towel or blanket and wedge it behind her back to prop her up on her side or they should have little wedges that will help sleeping on the side. Maybe with the trouble sleeping...it may be that he may still be hungry and the milk may not fill him up..maybe try using something like cereal or rice cereal with milk to help fill him up. Happy Father's Day Tim!!!! I hope you had a great first Father's Day 😊. My son was a side sleeper as well. There are little cushion wedges that you can buy. The two wedges will keep him laying on his side. Every time my son would wake up I would lay him down on the opposite side of the way he was originally laying just to change positions (I hope that makes sense lol). Man, I can't believe Jackson is almost 7 months old! Hang on tight it just gets faster lol. Huge hugs and love to you all xoxo ❤️P.S. I will definitely buy that book. Jane, Tim the mango and black beans are strong food for adults. In Colombia they start to give little by little the liquid where they cook the beans for several days before give the baby de beans. I love Jackson I think of him as my virtual grandson. I only have a grandson and lives in California near San Francisco. I lived in Miami. Sorry if my English is not very good. Jackson is adorable! Wow..he's getting up a lot during the night! My kids are now adults but unless they screamed their heads off and we know they were safe and had a clean diaper, we let them cry for a bit. If they continued we would go in and just rub their back, with no talking, and they would go back to sleep. When my babies ate solid food, I never fed them during the night. They are creatures of habit so when they wake up, they always expected to be fed. Our doctor told us they were getting enough nutrition and didn't need the extra calories at night. It took a couple nights but they eventually got the hint that it wasn't time to eat during the night. All kids are different, that's just what worked with ours! Good luck!
