I don't have any machine tools and haven't any place to put them. I just enjoy watching you doing something that you are REALLY good at, and it gives my half brain a chance it figure out ways to do things, through critical thinking, something many have no idea how or what to do (naysayers) You came up with a home made method here and that requires some critical thinking, NEVER STOP. ;-)
Keith, Despite you saying that you are not an engineer, your a musician i think that us "real" engineers have alot to learn from you, especially on a non critical part like a t-nut. your sometimes unorthodox techniques are really usefull, especially for someone who doesn't who does engineering on a tight budget. One thing for making T-nuts, i would recommend using a center punch to damage the final thread on the bottom so the threaded rod does not go all the way through and potentially damage your t slots
Hi Keith, I enjoy your your videos and feel the content is great. I have not seen your prostrate video, but good on you for championing this cause. However, I am not sure on the appropriateness of bringing the Patreon comments into the public forum. Please remember that a Patron pays you money, and for that is able to see your exclusive offerings over that media platform. If a Patron decides to stop following you, their level of financial commitment while they supported you should be respected after they exit. Any comments they make through an exit interview should be kept private also. I mean no harm by these comments and hope you are not offended by them. Your work is great and I enjoy each installment when I have time to tune in. Keep up the great work. Regards fan from Aus.
Patreon comments are Private. If a Patron comments publicly on TH-cam, then those comments are public. The Prostate video was uploaded simultaneously to both Platforms on the same day, as I felt that the subject matter was very important. But as I have just mentioned, any Patreon comments left by Patreon subscribers using the Patreon Interface remain completely private and are for viewing by Patrons only.
@@keithappleton Hi Keith, I did not realise the comments made by the patron were made in the public forum. That action is unfortunate and makes your comments understandable. Many thanks for your reply and understanding. Regards a Fan from Aus.
I can see where such a gismo might come in handy. I recently purchased a Proxxon angle-head grinder in order to get into some areas where a 4" angle grinder is just too large. I bought the corded version instead of the battery version. I am having trouble finding replacement flap wheels for it though, unless I want to pay through the nose for the ones from Proxxon. At almost $15 each I wouldn't buy many anyway.
Nice going. Btw, you can get basic thin parallels, with just the two edges ground, very cheaply, and the accuracy is good. I think I paid $15 for the set.
I'm sure you're already aware Keith, but for other folks who may not know: When storing a t-nut as you did at the end by jacking it up to the t slot you must be very careful not to apply too much pressure, as screws generate a lot more force than you'd expect and you can very easily crack the casting if you apply too much.
Is it still a toolpost grinder if it's not mounted on the toolpost? It sounds like i'm being facetious, but it's quite handy to have it on the compound slide as it's fantastic when making/re-profiling taps. There's a decent list of other tapered things I've ground with mine, It 's far too useful (for me anyway) to go without it!
You would necessarily have to have the indexer to drill flanges and things, you could just make our with a gasket, Or make a jig on the rotary, then go to the lathe I would think. It would definitely save a lot of setup time if you where have to make multiple parts with drilled flanges, you wouldn't have to rechuck things. Sorry that was probably telling you something you'd thought of, more of a thinking outloud comment. Your videos are definitely not repetitive....I either learn something directly. Or figure out a process by observation everytime I watch.
So what you are saying is that $5 per month Patreon donations does not get you to dictate the content of the channel ? I do wonder what is going on in the heads of most people, I used to work in customer services and dealt with some of the worst people in society on a daily basis. They would come up with all kinds of ways to attempt to manipulate us and get us to do their bidding, in their minds they were important because without customers there is no business but they forget that it works both ways ! I now live by the motto, "Ignorance is Unbeatable" which prevents me from getting too upset by them all !
Not at all. I can put whatever I want on Patreon or TH-cam provided the material is not copyright - which it isn't...... I was referring to some of the Patrons leaving me stupid comments when they decide to leave Patreon for whatever reason. I have found that if wander too far away from the core subject of Model Steam Engines, some viewers do to like it.
Thank you keith for making these videos. I really enjoy watching and find it very interesting. Thanks again.
Glad you like them!
I'm a patreon supporter for more than 5 years now and while I do not watch every video, I still love your content when I watch it.
Thank you for your support {:-)))

The damaged thread in the hole eventually damages the bolts so I just select the bolt length carefully.
Neat cutting oil will save your cutters gives a better finish and does not smell

I thought that was obvious, That's why I made the bolts slightly shorter . . . .

OK, Just for you I will retitle the episodes "A very near to the Toolpost Grinder"
@@keithappleton Thanks Keith!
