This is partly the Emperor's fault. He wanted a more yes-man yet naughtier version of Ruyi. If he had put her under Ruyi's care instead of that ambitious eunuch, Yanwan might have turned out to be better balanced and more prudent with her ambition. Ruyi would have nurtured Yanwan's better qualities while tempering her impetuous nature, having learned her lesson from overindulging A'Ruo. He wasn't even that subtle about his choice. Even Yanwan figured it out.

To be honest, there is a slight similarity between the actress for Hailan with the actress for yanwan or even the actress that played the eldest princess and the actress for yanwan. I think any of those actresses could be used to show "similarity" but Ruyi is the main role and so, only zhou xun can take that role. Well, it's the same thing for many other movies/shows. I remember watching Harry Potter and getting super confused when Snape said to Harry that he has his mother's eyes.
She could have had a much better life with Ling yunche but she thought being Royal would suit her better I guess it's just shows you that the grass isn't always greener on the other side because her end isn't a good one she let all that splendor get to her head.
