Nice video! I appreciate the tip on shifting with your foot on the peg. I use to use the back of my boot to shift when bringing my feet up to the pegs until I missed the lever once and went to neutral another time. It is AMAZING how fast the ENTIRE field goes by you when this happens!
I've done that too! Yeah, one small mistake and back of the pack you go. Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video. Be sure to share it with your friends!-Chase
Riley helped me a lot with my starts and it has helped tremendously! For a top secret trick attend one of his classes I promise you won’t be disappointed
You don't need 3/4 throttle on a 450 on any start. 1/4 throttle is fine, gradual increase as you come out and feel the traction... I've spanked busas on my old R6 with this technique on a regular.. that and keeping straight off the jump. You really have to do a lot of practice to learn this because the main part is feeling the traction and running just below the edge of breaking the rear loose. Once you get that down, starts are easy. I like to stiffen my entire body the first 20 feet and then adjust the weight for grabbing gears and getting ready to dive in.
Close your eyes, (practicing alone in an area you know well), and imagine a gate dropping. Just make sure you open them back up in a gear or two. :) Do that 10 tiems, and tell me what the rest of your senses learned about getting a good start. Concentrate on the tire getting the best bite with out spinning, and you will learn it faster, (for that type of ground), than you will with your eyes open. Just be careful.
Im racing tomorrow and so far every race ive done ive went the gate far away from everyone because im scared that someone will run into me on the straight do you have any tips
Sometimes that is out of your control but that's racing. Best advice i can give is really work on your reaction time and keep your elbows up. With your elbows up, you'll be much more stable it another rider some hit you. If they're down, it's much harder to maintain good form. Also, look at the ruts leaving the gate. If the gate next to you has a nasty rut that runs right into yours, it could cause the other rider to swerve your way. But just be confident, practice your technique and most importantly, RIP A HOLESHOT!-Chase
On a KX100, I would try starting in first gear. Smaller bikes like that just don't have as much torque to start in second. Just practice using that clutch to control the front end.
@@j-mx8021 I would try the other direction, if you are close to not bogging. Do not "dump" the clutch, but feed it out in a controlled manor, with your throttle wide open for the 100cc bike, (use your clutch to deliver the power smoothly, and leave the throttle pinned.). But more importantly, lower your gearing by adding 1 or 2 teeth on the rear sprocket. You might be shifting a bit more during the race, but being able to start a gear higher is gold if you can figure it out. Personally on my 250cc 2-stroke bikes, I liked to go 1 tooth smaller on the small sprocket, (the counter-shaft sprocket), which is about equal to 3 teeth bigger on the rear sprocket,--and cheaper too. :)
By the way, try the same thing in corners. Try entering a corner 1 gear higher than you normally do on the 100cc bike, and pin the throttle, feeding the power out with the clutch. If you can do that with out bogging coming out of the corner, that is 2 times you do not have to shift, (once going in and once coming out). That practice will also force you to enter the corner faster so you don't bog coming out. Great practice man, great stuff.
@@coopermullendore7130 I used a app to get my 0-60 speeds and 300ft times and 1/8th mile. When i started in 2nd on my 2023 crf 450r the times were worst when I started in 2nd
Does anyone have any tips for getting into racing? Im 14 and i got my first bike, a yz80 a few months ago, and i want to race motocross, but i dont know where to start.
Look for a racing series in your state and if there's a moto series there then ask your parents to sign you up for it. You might have to wait until next season but that's the best place to start
The tallest you can pull with out falling out of the good power. I knew a 95lb kid would would do 3rd gear hole-shots on sod-grass on his 1973/74 Honda CR250 Elsinore, (It probably only made about 35 hp). That thing dug a trench 100 ft long before he had to shift to 4th. I never rode a 450 4-stroke, but if you cant do a 3rd gear start with about 60hp, you probably should practice with a 125cc 2-stroke and learn how to use the clutch. :)

Thanks, Hunter. You're right, the academy is awesome if you can make it to one!
Thanks a lot . Finally i found an awesome explain of the holeshot technique
I was always told to bring my feet back to the pegs as quickly as possible. Interesting to see the different techniques
thanks alot,big race this weekend
Nice tips! Riley appears to be about seven feet tall considering the way he sits on that bike!
Yeah, he is a taller guy. I'd guess about 5'10. Glad you liked the video!
Rocky Mountain ATV MC 5”10 or 6”10

I’m on a crf150r, I’ve been starting on 1st gear and am a beginner rider. Should I start in 2nd?
2nd
Gear 2 good for any size bike. Even a 50??
Hi Bye 🤦♀️ yes and 50s don’t have gears (unless it’s a pit bike)
you from eu?

2nd gear

Which gear is best to start in?
2nd. If you start in first then you will most likely wheelie. I tried starting in first one time when I was on 85s and I looped it.

You just made the rut deeper 🤷♂️
There shouldn't even be a gate drop if you ask me too many bikes as it is
Definitely don't flip your bike, it breaks your rear fender and jams dirt up your pipe. Ask me how I know!
