    Great job. But what I am most amazed by is James singing this in EXACTLY the right key without a reference. Not even off by a tiny bit. That's pretty awesome!

      There could be some pitch correction. But through my phone, I certainly don’t hear it.

      @@JedNadin I think it's quite obvious in certain parts- for example listen to when he says "like brothers" which is by far the most obvious place in this clip. But regardless James does great on these cameos even unedited.
      ...But (although with reservation- as I haven't yet listened to the latest record) I think james sounds better these days when he embraces the softer and/or lower parts these days, while he obviously technically hits many of the high notes of the past- it simply sounds thinner/squeakier regardless of how well executed they are and he will always be compared to his former self and even more so when constantly giving new reference points.

      How did you conclude there's no reference? I'm pretty sure he's checked the key before he started recording. Like, obviously.

    Maybe people can't understand how impressive it is to sing high notes with a full voice, 27 years later. Of course, with the tiredness of the tour, some shows are worse, but understand that this is the full voice of a 60-year-old guy, it's impressive.

      He was also singing it at a slower tempo in the original video, so that probably made it easier as well (not that this takes away from his ability, but it's sometimes easier to sing at the extremes of your range at a slower pace).

    he is hitting some high notes yeah, but he still sounds like a dying duck, especially in the upper register. it's quite unlistenable when one does not just focus on "did he hit this note or not", which one is induced to do while watching this (beautifully!) edited video.

    All the comments are positive but... This objectively isn't good singing, it doesn't really sound that good. LaBrie has been pretty much just yelling since the 90s and it worked for a while until it didn't anymore. I'm by no means a LaBrie hater, I'm a massive fan of his and DT. But don't act like just because he can still "hit the note" this "late" into his life and career (relaxed at home without any tempo pressure and with as many takes as he wants) suddenly it sounds good or he's a good singer. He's certainly brave though and has had a tremendous career.
    Being the vocalist of the biggest prog band is no small feat, and however I may criticise he still sang some really difficult stuff (with questionable ability, again)

    • @ConfydeMusic
      @ConfydeMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely agree with you. He's certainly hit the notes here - but do those high notes actually sound good? It's been a long time since James' super high register has actually been enjoyable to listen to...having an amazing range is only useful if good tone is there across all the registers.
      Labrie has gotten a lot of unfair criticism throughout his career, especially in the wake of his voice injury. I've loved his work with DT for the most part and defended him to the hilt in my conversations over the years. But listening to live footage on the last two album cycles has been truly painful....now that he's lip syncing to a backing tape of his own vocals on the current tour, it's pretty beyond redemption now.
      It's really sad, before his food poisoning incident, James was one of the greatest rock singers in the world. Images and Words, Awake and Change of Seasons are vocal masterclasses.

    • @eppufart2232
      @eppufart2232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ConfydeMusic Honestly, its so much more than just the food poisoning that ruined his voice, he was using way too much rasp in the awake/images & words tours and he had teachers that didnt know how to teach him.

      That's not exactly the only point when you're singing that high, is it? Listen to any famous vocalist singing really high and stop being grumpy about James. He's done an amazing job here.

    • @edlrocks12591

      @@gabrieldeandrade8679I don't understand the DT fan community's need to blindly jump to James' defense when someone is critiquing him. I'm not being grumpy about James. I'm a huge DT fan which is how I know that James can both sing high and enunciate well. And idk what your first point is about, people sing high and enunciate all the time. Like Geddy Lee didn't just walk out of the studio and start yodeling.
