    Back when I started flying we had a local landfill we used for a VOR. During day you could see the smoke and at night you could see the fires for navigation.

    Great video. Glad you made it without major problems. Your altitude problem is exactly why I installed O2. I just had to go high to thread the needle with two thunderstorms just north of Savanah on the way to Florida. I would have had to deviate a hundred miles to go around. it. I feel a lot better when I arrive when I use the O2. It's my SOP to use O2 above 10K.

    really creative intro on top of your already creative flyover! what a hassle your parts saga was.

      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      36:59 - good question. I don't remember. It's not CHT, as it wouldn't be that hot already, and if it was CHT, I would have gotten the CAS warning light you see come on at 37:48 - plus it doesn't give me an aural warning for that. I looked on the engine logs for that flight...and I don't see anything, so it must have been something benign - traffic on the ground or something of that sort. I ignore it in the video, so obviously it didn't matter.

    UPS may suck, but FedEx is worse. For work, we had a supplier overnight a thumb drive in an envelope. It took twice as long of course, but the envelope arrived with a bunch of tape in a corner, a bunch of rub/scuff marks, and nothing inside, all for over $20. I have more examples of late and damage, but that is the most face palm one.

    Scott looks like you lucked out with the new sensor as it came with the connecter on it. Not having to solder the pins is a good thing. For those that don't know the connecter is a GM Weather. There are kits to repair (with pins and water seals) or replace easy to get, I believe Scott talked about soldering as due to time restrains. Looks like you had a good flite and time.

    maybe an EXTERNAL CELL FONE ANTENNA would help ya ''reach out'' and grab a cell site... ?? ya would probabally have to use one of those passive antennas on the inside to send the signal outside like they had to do in the early days of the portables... eh... it's probabally a ''milly watter'' prob... ;) not enuf WATTS to REACH OUT very far at all actually but it IS LINE OF SIGHT :) eh TRONS!!!

      makes me wonder if trying to connect with one of the PUBLIC WIFI sytems like ''COX'' or verizon or AT&Tuverse internet or wtuever has when you are out and not on your wifi and there is GUEST MODE available nearby...
      the thought is, wifi signal can be MORE than ''cell fone'' signal.... like actual WATTS got a repeater thingie here that puts out 8 to 10 watts, 8 constant it can send wifi down the block lol or thru a few walls no prob... anyhow the thought would be connect WIFI's using WATTS and external antenna... ;) instad of millywatts an cell fone inside the cabin... ;)
      issn't that how they do it in the airplanes when you do a cell fone call nowadays? send it thru the planes NETWORK CONNECTION ?? ;) which goes out and well yea

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the aircraft is radiotransparent, so an external antenna wouldn't work any better. The problem is simply that you are very high, and the signal a) isn't transmitted up into the air, and b) is very weak at altitude.

    Is there likely to be any change to the fuel economy, with the magneto timing set correctly?
    I guess it's hard to tell with just the return trip, with different head wind, altitude & route.

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It will actually probably reduce fuel economy...because now I can run at full power more, which means more speed...but more fuel consumption.

    Why is your RPM so low on takeoff? What RPM do you cruise at?

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Two reasons for the low static RPM: 1) EIS timing advance (working on this) and 2) a cruise prop, efficient at high speeds, but not so efficient for climb.

    Something to consider. The Lightspeed electronic CDI ignition system, provides the hottest, longest duration spark (20 degrees), with the least HP draw (most efficient) on the engine, plus the ability to manually change the ignition timing. If your CHTs are high, retard your timing in response. If you are lean of peak, with the associated slow flame propagation in the cylinder, advance your timing. I have seen as much as 50 RPM increase when lean of peak, by advancing the timing. I run dual Lightspeed Plasma III ignitions, and if you check with a lot of the other racers, they do the same. One of the disadvantages is being dependent on the aircraft's electrical system to maintain power. I can tell that you are an electrical guy and would be able to do so safely.

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am actually working on this right now - the EIS I have on there can have the advance manipulated like this as well. I flew some tests today while manipulating the timing.

    23:08 if you want to get your oxygen saturation reading back up near 99%, you want a carbon monoxide leak on your cabin heater exhaust heat exchanger!
    Under the influence of carbon monoxide poisoning, your cognitive ability would likely be impaired, so you'd be happy with the nice high O2 reading and not figure out it was caused by carbon monoxide.
    Is the influence of carbon monoxide on those finger O2 sensors a widely known thing? I've only seen it mentioned once or twice.
    I guess you have a cabin carbon monoxide alarm that will be hard to ignore. (Although there are incidents where low cabin pressure alarm can be heard on radio transmissions and it turns out they are doing nothing about it, due to hypoxia).

    • @CanardBoulevard
      @CanardBoulevard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you're correct - CO poisoning will cause an optical pulse oximeter to read artificially high. I have two separate CO detectors in my cockpit. Hypoxia, regardless of the cause, is insidious.
