    Hey Isabella, this hair dye is more of a ‘semi’ hair dye (though the dark colors of this line last realllly long) but as it says on the box, it has no ammonia, so it can sadly not give you that lift that you are looking for on the roots.

    I think dying your hair wet is where it went very wrong. Even if the box says to do it. Never heard of that before. Also if you want a cheap dye go to a beauty supply, we have Sally’s in America, and buy the store brand dye and developer and mix yourself. Still very cheap but much better than regular box dye. You can ask the ppl that work there for help in what to buy. I have dyed my own hair for 10 years and never had a problem and my hair is as light as your naturally.

      Yeah it seems odd to dye it wet. Could of been the product though, who knows. I agree though that buying dye and developer separately works much better!

      You can actually dye your hair when it’s wet with no worries. It also absorbs the color better. So no, she went wrong with the choice of the color, bcs she used too much light color for her hair level which she had before, she needs more “darker” ginger.

    • @Ilivedbih
      @Ilivedbih ปีที่แล้ว

      Dying your hair wet is literally the best way to dye them. 😭 It takes the color better. "Never heard of that before" well, American dye/hair stuff isn't good so not surprised there. Even hairdressers aren't good, they don't even have to have license for it.
      The only good ones that I went to were black person owned salons.

    Box dye will NOT lift your natural colour unless it has bleach in it! You cant put a lighter colour on dark hair and expect it to be lighter. Regardless it didnt look that bad, a darker root looks natural anyway :)

    • @queenkoi
      @queenkoi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Almost ❤️ color actually usually doesn't contain bleach and it will lift natural pigment from hair when used with the proper developer. However there are limits to what we can do with color. For the guest requiring a lot of lift (going very light) or that has previously colored hair that is when we would generally go for bleach. If the hair is virgin hair you can lift quite a bit with color but not endlessly.

      Yes it will, box dyes can lighten 3 shades of hair. My hair is naturally light brown and I was able to go to a medium blonde with box dye. Her hair didn't lift because the dye she used doesn't have ammonia, therefore it wasn't as effective as a dye with ammonia

    • @rebecadiaz2194
      @rebecadiaz2194 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lies, box dyes do lift your natural hair color. They contain ammonia which lifts virgin hair a shade or two. Won’t lift it like bleach does tho. Because her hair is already light and only wants to add more red pigment she doesn’t need bleach

    Hi! I use garnier nutrisse 5something, which is a much darker copper (but it is what i like) and i find it really nice! Also, if it has no amomnia it wont lift your roots to the color you want because dye is pigment, it does not bleach your hair and it works better if you use a shade closer ou darker than yours (so, if you have a natural 4 brown hair, it wont turn platinum blonde even if you apply a 12 blonde). Hope that helps!
    Edit: in the in betweens, i use a toner mask to maintain color and only colour the roots. If it gets too 'meh' on the rest of the hair, i then bring the dye down to it.

    I have tried many products in my quest for red hair. The best, in my opinion? Semi permanent conditioner dyes. On virgin, unbleached hair. My hair is medium-dark brown and the method I use gives me a dark (because my base colour is dark) but vibrant, long lasting red every time. I use really any semi-permanent red or orange dye, depending on the shade I'm going for, I slop it all over my hair, put a plastic bag over it and then DON'T follow the instructions. If you just leave it for 30 minutes, it probably won't take, and it DEFINITELY won't stay. Use a hair dryer or heat pack to apply heat for at least 45-60 minutes. Wrap your head to trap the heat in and let it sit in your hair for at least 4 hours. Overnight is good. Rinse with cool water and there you go. I can't guarantee it'll work for everyone's hair but it works like a hot damn for me, and there's no developer so no chemical damage. I've tried quite a few brands and the only brand that washed out instead of growing out with roots with this method was Directions. Also most red semi permanent dyes have a purple undertone since they're meant to be put on yellow, bleached hair (yellow and purple cancel eachother out) so I tend to gravitate toward more orangey dyes (or mix my own with red and orange) to get a true red colour

    My grandmother owned her own hair shop and taught every single one of us how to do hair so take my advice with a grain of salt as only one of us (my older sister) decided to go to cosmetology school on top of what my grandmother taught us. Literally anything and everything you do to your hair is damaging it, it just depends to what degree. You're young and your hair grows rather fast from what I can tell so you are extremely lucky in this regard. Do all you can to avoid bleach and 40 volume developer (very few hair types can survive this) if you are still planning on growing out your hair to waist-length again. Clairol Natural Instincts is a demi-permanent dye, or at least that's how this product is marketed, but it lifted my natural level 6/7 to a solid level 8 when I used "Level 9 Light Blonde" two years ago (the formula might have changed but I don't think it has). That hair dye gave me a very specific Cinderella 1950 edition strawberry blonde so it might be something worth looking into if you insist on using box dye. When I was going red, I used Clairol Professionals Permanent Liquid Hair Colour in the lightest red shades they had available and they worked out marvelously.
    WITH ALL OF THIS BEING SAID, if there is an extremely specific shade of ginger you want to go and you have your heart set on it and you won't stop until you get it, just bite the bullet and go to a professional salon. Most salons are open Tuesday through Saturday and you can always call and ask if any stylist has ginger/copper hair as a specialty. You can also search up online if anyone nearby specializes in red hair. As someone with an online audience, you can also reach out to salons for promotions and partnerships, so you should have no problem finding the right stylist who will dye your hair the colour you want and keep it that way. Red hair dye rinses out SO FAST it's in your best interest to go to a stylist for maximum consistent results.
    I hope this helps! Best of luck to you on your ginger journey!

    Heyy, I not sure if you’ll find this helpful or not, but when I’ve dyed my hair in the past, I would recommend going to Sally’s and getting hair colour instead of box dye as the quality is so much better.
    It’s a tad more expensive but it will treat your hair a little better and you won’t have to keep going over it time and time again, I normally get demi-permanent dye as I find it’s not quite as damaging as permanent or semi-permanent.
    Also they have so many different hair colour options, and you can mix different colours to get the exact colour you want. You can even ask the staff in the shop for help, they’re usually really helpful. Hope you got some fab headshots. 🥰

    I think the results were decent but let me give you some tips for colouring. You can't dye your hair to a lighter colour without bleach. I think that the way you dried it was the reason for the dryness afterword. My hair used to be just like yours so here are some tips. Be careful with the jackets you wear because jackets have lots of static. Use leave in conditioner instead of gel. Put a tiny bit of oil in your hair every time your hair gets wet. Try doing desi methods because they usually have hair types like yours. Since I am from Pakistan, and I live in Canada, I've been trying to do desi methods and they work really well! I totally recommend for your hair type.

    If you want to stay ginger, just use real 100% crushed up henna leaves (not the trash that comes in a hair dye box that has all kinds of other stuff in it). Different hennas will give you different reds. But they strengthen and thicken your hair and gloss it up instead of drying it out. Do your research for the copper look hennas. However, you cannot go back to box and chemical dyes after you use henna, but it can go over previously box dyed hair…. so keep that in mind if you decide to do it.

    I've been using pure henna for more than 10 years for my copper hair, it works really well but it's a big commitment; It's really permanent, the only way to remove it is cutting it all off. It can weight down your hair over the years though and can change your texture. It also doesn't work as well on silicone treated hair but you can do a purifying argile mask to remove silicone build up beforehand. Henna is quite time consuming (at least 6 hours of processing time for nice results) and unless you chop it all off, it's complicated to go back to chemical dye once you start with henna. You can go darker (ONLY if the henna was free of metallic salt) but going lighter on hennaed hair is pretty difficult. I tried once and got awful green blotches lmaoo but imo you'd be fine as long as you don't want to go from copper henna to blonde

    • @kennethjoneification
      @kennethjoneification 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you're absolutely right, however if you got green blotches it means your henna mix must have had indigo in it, as bleaching pure henna will not turn it green, just really bright orange, but bleaching indigo definitely will turn your hair green as it is a natural blue dye which is used in mixes to achieve different tones. What henna do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm NEVER commenting under someone's video, but: I've been following your hair journey on youtube since the very beginning, because we have very similar natural hair, the colour, the waves, the length, it's really almost the same, and when you dyed your hair red some months ago - and it looked so good on you and your hair - I knew I had to do the same lol. So I did a lot of research and dyed my hair red with henna and let me tell you - I'm OBSESSED with how good it turned out. I dyed my hair back in november and I was really expecting the colour to fade very fast; however, it still looks so intense and fresh and bright, so I'd really recommend it to you. Additionally, henna made my hair healthier, shinier and I feel like it also helped my waves somehow. Sry I made this sound like an ad LOL.

    I haven't used box dye in years. It's definitely more damaging than professional hair dye and the results usually look worse. If I want a new hair color I go to the hair dresser and for a color refresh I buy hair dye from a shop with professional hair products like those used at a hair salon. I'm from Germany, but maybe shops like these exist where you live too. You can also try buying at the internet, but make sure you don't buy fake products.

    • @ho-ry5uf
      @ho-ry5uf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      actually it's not true. the damage depends on the product used and on whether you are lightening your hair or just coloring it. A lot of "professional" dyes are as damaging as box dyes. Bleaching your hair at a salon is 10 times more damaging than only coloring it at home. if you use a good product and check the ingredients + use it correctly there is no need for the salon. The money you pay in a salon includes rent + the person's time (which can be hours of work) + washing and drying the hair + the blow out / Straightening that they do etc .. So you're paying a lot of money for things that you don't need.

    • @Vivi-ux4wg
      @Vivi-ux4wg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ho-ry5uf First of all comparing box dye with bleaching at a salon is ridiculous. Bleaching will always be more damaging than colour. No matter if at home or at a salon. Secondly professional hair dye and bleach is usually more gentle, because they use lower developers. Box dye most of the time have unnecessary high developers, because they want their product to work on any hair type. But those developers are often to high for a lot of peoples hair, especially people with naturally blond hair. On most box dyes they never write the percentage of the developer. If you buy professional hair dye, you will always know the percentage of the developer. Same goes for bleach, you have to use the right developer to achieve your desired outcome. To low might not lighten your hair enough and to high can destroy it. With box dye you will not know how high the developer is. With professional hair dye you can choose the right one. Professional hair dresser are also more experienced. They usually know which developer ist the right one, they know when to wash out the bleach, they know in which order to dye your hair. If you want your hair very light, they choose to bleach your hair two times instead of using unnecessary high developers so your hair will not fall off. Everyone's hair is different and that's important to realise to have good results. There is so much that goes into hair colouring to achieve your desired look. A box dye can never cover all of this. And hair dressers have also to pay their rent and food. But you can buy professional hair dye without being a hair dresser and you will have better results than with box dye and pay almost the same amount.

      @@IsabellaDemarko I'm using henna and it's safe you simply have to check if you're allergic to it first and make sure there's no metallic salt added to the henna powder
      Some people on the internet have reported their hair to feel a bit drier after using it though

      @@IsabellaDemarko it's very good but you do need to find natural henna without any 'bad' stuff added (sorry i'm not english i don't know the exact words). But i have been using it for over 10 years. (including bleaching afterwards (bleach wash i prefer) was no problem.

    It didn’t take because it’s a gloss. Gloss really just add shine to the hair with a tint of color. Try one that says permanent hair color and it’ll stick on better. That one says no ammonia which I guess ammonia is bad for the hair but it’s what lift the color a shade or two.

    Box dye destroyed my hair it takes at least 2 years to grow out the dye to a long Bob the roots are really not bad I'd leave it next time, if you're still hoping for healthy hair. but I've always loved the day you dye the shine you get but 2 days of shinny hair is not worth it. The video reminded me I also destroyed the bathroom 🤣

    Red for over a year! Don't dye your hair every month, just once a year (two max!). If you dye the length all the time, it will ruin your hair, don't do it. You can tone the length with other products, which have no chemical in the composition, they just deposit the pigment that has been lost over time by red hair (example: OVERTONE GINGER COLORING CONDITIONER - be careful with the product's action time, to don't get too vibrant a color!)

    Hello~ Your application and process were great! This just wasn't the right kind of dye.
    Not all box dyes are the same. This one is not 'as strong', that's why it didn't lift your roots. I'd suggest going to a beauty supply store and asking for swatches of permanent color, then pick the one you like and buy the suggested developer that goes with it. It'll end up looking much better and much healthier than with any box dye.
    If you still wanna take that route, there's a lot of people giving those kinds of suggestions.
    Looking forward to seeing a redemption vid !

    Hey Isabella, I just dyed my hair with a box dye for my youtube as well too! But my box dye was an organic one . My hair is brown and because I chose an dark colour it lifted my hair so well👌 I think your hair looks really pretty now but I recommand everyone to buy organjc hair dye if you are going to dye your hair at home! Lots of love💗

    if you’re going to try to make your hair a lighter color you will need to lighten your hair, box dyes are not worth it. arctic fox, ion, and good dye young and many other non box dye alternatives that are cheaper than a salon and won’t leave your hair feeling dry and cause less damage

    Why did you apply it on wet hair it diluted the formula :(
    And you need to apply it on unwashed greasy hair dear
    And use the conditioner that came with it that prevents hair becoming dry

    It’s not so much that it’s a box color, but you used a gloss with no ammonia. For your roots to be lifter 1 to 2 shades, you need a permanent color line with 10 or 20 volume developer. Before I was a stylist I used Igora box color line from Schwarzkopf, now I use the same line of professional color.

    Well I'm really confused... Cause you said you would like to grow your hair much more healthier before but now don't you think that dye can damage your hair? It's very harmful... I know you might have a lot excitement that you wanted to try these kind of products... But don't you think you are wavering from your goal (like what you wanted to achieve ) .(and if there is a mistake in my English sorry for that as its my 2 Lang).
    Take care ♥ ♥ (:

    I know everyone is saying this and I'm sure you did your own research but since you've been concerned about the health of your hair I thought I'd just chime in! Box dye from the drug store is pretty drying. They often use high developers to get "maximum color" but it's not always the best for your hair, especially used repeatedly. You can get the same effect with an at home professional dye (wella, ect) and mixing your own developer, and it'll be much healthier for your hair in the long run. - from someone who dyed their hair red for years with box dye and ruined it

    Not a professional here, so I might be totally wrong. Your natural hair color doesn't look so different from this dye, so I believe you could have used just a toner, the type that doesn't need ox, and you would get better results without damaging your hair

  • @malloryknox6802
    @malloryknox6802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It didn't work because the dye you used doesn't have ammonia, ammonia is what opens the hair cuticles and makes the dye penetrate the hair and change its color

    water reduces the effects of chemicals in hair dye and the dye cannot settle in the hair well.
