Propagate cuttings to propagate a hardy hibiscus. I used rooting hormone and put the Hardy Hibiscus cuttings in a 18 cell Rootmaker trays. I used my propagation soil mix too. Will do an update when the Hardy Hibiscus cuttings are rooted out and ready to transplant into bigger pots.

Wow, didn’t know you could grow hibiscus from cuttings. I’ll have to try this. Thank you.

Yes, and they are looking great so far, no wilting of leaves, hopefully have some roots to show in a month or so!

I’m in MI and the soil freezes over the winter. Would I plant these outside or keep them in a window for the winter?

My guess is they would need to be put somewhere protected in the winter. I have read there are some varieties that are cold hardy in MI, might check with you state ag commission and see if they can point you to the better varieties for your area.

It’s a shame you cut so much of that plant. Wet your soil before you fill your cells. Then fill your tray half way with water and water from the bottom. I never water from the top. That way the seed or cuttings are not disturbed.

Plant is totally fine… watering from the top or the bottom makes no difference as long as you are careful during each application. I’ve cut plants and cuttings back way more than that.

He literally said he bought this plant to propigate. Also, this plant will become bushier after it's been cut back. I never water from the bottom when propagating cuttings as the soil becomes too wet. There's multiple ways to do things and it's nice to have different options
