I feel like the removal of dipsticks is probably up there with some of the worst decisions in automotive history. The addition of digi dipsticks is great but you get issues like this and I hate the idea of having to run the car for 15 minutes to find out what the level is, becuase if it's too low you've now run it on low oil for a while. Makes me feel like I need to keep checking to make sure the digi dipstick is correct and my car hasn't started leaking yet 😂 Also I thought the M57 engine was better than the N57 tbh coz of the timing issues, although the 47 was a lot worse in that regard. I wanna get a E91 335D to go aside my 335i as a more reliable and economical daily, just holding out for a good spec, pan roof one which seems to be quite rare. The B58 Z4... I mean Supra is a mk5, the mk4 is the classic 2jz supra like Brian's orange one from the 1st fast and furious
I have a diesel BMW. BMW recommends changing the oil every 18000 miles. If i halved that, its every 9000 miles. In my experience, 5000 miles is too much. I change my diesel engine oil every 3500 miles. You might think im mad, but oil is cheaper than a new engine.
good that the customer can see how bad things are, all mechanics should video their work then you can see that they replaced the correct parts and not charged for things they havent done. Ive found a good honest garage but when they replaced my clutch cylinder the apprentice forgot to tighten the gearbox drain plug, luckily I saw the leak and didnt drive it, they recovered it and apologised.
I had an oil warning light come on my 2 month old Seat Leon, I had no idea what it was because it was 2 MONTHS OLD. I took it to the local Seat stealership, they told me to come back in 4 weeks!!!!! EH????? I wasn't happy to wait 4 weeks so I done my own self fault finding checking the two sensors, it turn out to be the oil sensor on the sump after cleaning the connections... I took my car to a local garage to clear all the codes free of charge...
They love to report incorrectly once the seal inside perish. Unfortunately oil can be even crawl all the way up to the ECU so it’s best to renew it if possible…
On these there was a TSB, basically you replace the level sensor, program the car, completely so all the modules, top up the oil with 6L instead or 6.5L. If it’s a diesel. Most of the time just level sensor replace will do the job but if it happens again that’s just a thumbs up. That’s a aftermarket CID aswell by the looks of it so might struggle with updates.
Yes, but it's over engineering the requirement. A dipstick doesn't need recalibration or plugging into something to recalibrate it. Thus level sensor sounds like something dreamed up by a graduate engineer with too much spare time with nothing to do.
Did you put a flush in the engine before draining the oil? That filter looked rank. What’s your opinion on using flushes? Good or bad and how often? Cheers
BMW say service every 18,000/20,000 miles? 😮 Even Amsoil don't recommend an oil change that long (Severe driving up to 15k & normal driving up to 25k) But with so many vehicles on the road & traffic jams that should still be classed as "Severe".....i do! Lesson learned with overdue oil changes, owner will have issues with that in the near future. 😂 Would never go over 10k myself even with good well know oil.
Was the leak only from around the sensor? Amazing. 4 or 6 cylinder and how did you know the total oil fill volume? Did you use the dipstick or is there a guide somewhere. My car doesn’t have dipstick and I want to change the oil. 3.0 B57. Finally, the bulk oil pack, is that trade only or can anyone buy from BMW?
Yeah, it was coming from around the sensor, but on the sump plug and bit coming from the connector really… I used workshop data. From what I can remember it was 6.8L(???). Bulk 20L is trade only BUT it might be working asking them about
Its one way to get premature chain wear mechanic told me to swap oil every 5k as that prevents guide wear on those stupid plastic things and bmw service intervals are ridiculous as oil goes thin
The service book dissapears if they installed an aftermarket MMI box for carplay. If you switch off carplay and go into the service section the service record shows up. Not sure why thats the case but its the reason as to why the service history did not show up.
You didnt check the filter for glitter and metal shavings?? Thats not a good move on these engines - especially after seeing the state of it. Problem with diesel BMW's is the egr - oil changes every 5-6k will see it live a long time after the egr delete
Oil level sensor... My guess is based on buying a W213 with engine knocking, there is no actual dipstick and the oil sensor was not working properly.... I had a new engine put in all because of a fault oil sensor, I think. I will not be buying another car without a dipstick.
What's with the plastic stuff? The broken sensor is plastic, the oil filter casings and internals (except the filter) are all plastic. Is that normal on new BMWs?
Filter will be plastic too.... but BMW aside, it's common on ALL cars now. Not a problem either. 250k miles on my Peugeot with a plastic intake manifold, oil cap, fuel filter housing and coolant valve block. Zero issues.
BMW original part, made in China where oddly enough all the non OEM parts are made. BMW should also have fitted a dipstick rather than rely on stupid electronics
the mk5 shares the same engine. also The engine in the 2021 Supra makes numbers identical to the BMW Z4 M40i ( Thanks google ) I cant believe you were doing that in the freezing cold, i went outside other day to do my brakes then instantly turned round and went back indoors.
My bmw Coupe 2014 was an absolute nightmare. electrical problems, diff had to be replaced complete internal failure. And cam chain tensioner broke apart being made of plastic!!!! Quality has fallen imo never had a problem with my old 2002 3 series that was a great car.
Why, oh why, do car manufacturers persist with introducing new tech that cause so many problems with modern cars? It’s like the computer geeks have replaced designers and they just looooove their fancy tech but they give no thought as to what happens when their tech invariably fails. Getting rid of a dipstick for a “sensor” would make me walk away from a car. If it ain’t broke, then leave it the hell alone!
oil level sensor? and I would never own a BMW either too many things go wrong on them I mean why get rid of a dipstick and then relay on sensor to never fail on you its just stupid.
What is wrong with a dip stick and l have no intention of buying a BMW no dip stick in fact our Suzuki Baleno has a dip stick for the engine and automatic transmission
Massive respect for been mobile bruv , cant believe the stuff you do on the deck , great content
I was moaning about fitting a wing mirror in the yard yesterday 😂 look at the frost!
That frost wrap looks great
1 of 1 😂
Watching from Australia, working outside in UK weather looks like hell 😮.

I agree!
Even 9k miles is too much for those engines. 6k oil change would be the on the safe side.

Keep up the good work sir 🫡
Thank you, I will
good job guys

@themarvelousvlog I think crap got into the gubbins, a quick spray of contact spray into the connections cleared the problem.

10k absolute latest!
Drive an X5 for the look but doesn't have it serviced regularly.
Nice one, lads that looked a bit cold the weather that is have a good one, cheers boys⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌🍺🍺🍺
The state of the oil in a BMW.
Cleanaroonie🤣🤣🤣🤣 baz will laugh at that🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Nice video 👍, i thought the n57 had timing chain failures ? How many miles this have. The n47 on my 1 series is up to 190k 🙏
N57 timing chain failure isn’t as common as N47 chain failure, HOWEVER, chain life can be prolonged by servicing early!
Super

@ that’s a helluva leak. Thank you so much for your reply.
WhatsApp’d you Monday about a clutch and rear main oil seal, any progress mate?
Its one way to get premature chain wear mechanic told me to swap oil every 5k as that prevents guide wear on those stupid plastic things and bmw service intervals are ridiculous as oil goes thin

M57 last reliable.
N57 = timing chains and bottom ends

I don’t know why they removed the reliable dipstick to be honest…
What's with the plastic stuff? The broken sensor is plastic, the oil filter casings and internals (except the filter) are all plastic. Is that normal on new BMWs?
Well yeah shit has to break so you buy new parts.
Filter will be plastic too.... but BMW aside, it's common on ALL cars now. Not a problem either. 250k miles on my Peugeot with a plastic intake manifold, oil cap, fuel filter housing and coolant valve block. Zero issues.

It has a dipstick, didn’t you see him use it to check the oil level??
So where was the oil leek coming from?
It was coming from:
1. Oil level sensor gasket
2. Oil level sensor plug
3. Sump plug
Cheers buddy

It is the mk5! I thought so 😆
We’re used to it. It is what it is 😅
did he have lipstick on when he blew you a kiss lol

B58 was the best engine
My favourite engine for sure!
I will never own a bmw
I will always own a BMW. IMO they are the better option if choosing between the germans
@@themarvelousvlog depends on the era. Maybe 15 years ago. My Audi tt mk1 engine is still flawless.
@@TheChappersru a guy driving a tt? Its like an old woman driving a truck, its just not what u expect to see for that vehicle.
Can’t beat a a E46 M54B30 engine
There’s only one reliable BMW E30 (1982-1994)
I'll just keep my Honda CR-V mk3 for a longer time...😂😂😂

The comment section isn't long enough to describe all the faults with these cars
M57 was last decent engine n57 was pile of 💩🤣
Suppised they don't get dpf fixed more often. Diesel s are a con. Delete. . New cars have no dipstick, no spare wheel . A con
Mk5 supra b58
mk4 supra is the 2jz
I change the oil on my subaru impreza gc8 turbo every 3k or 6 months
oil level sensor? and I would never own a BMW either too many things go wrong on them I mean why get rid of a dipstick and then relay on sensor to never fail on you its just stupid.
I’d always get a BMW, I think they’re reliable HOWEVER I agree with the whole dipstick thing
Amateurs. Oh it’s very vet!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
VW Tree Only.
Lease for two years then get rid of it If you can’t afford to a BMW is out of your league
To. Much. Trouble. Diesel. Engines. To many. Filters. To much. Electric to much to. Mend. 😮
And BMWs 🤣
Too many plastic parts.
What is wrong with a dip stick and l have no intention of buying a BMW no dip stick in fact our Suzuki Baleno has a dip stick for the engine and automatic transmission
Bmw bring money with own bmw120d piece of crape 😂😂😂😂
Prone to failure and hard to replace. And expensive. TRASH
I see a pilipino spirits in this guys...
Way too much tech on vehicles now. That's why owners ignore basic maintenance. But that's your Iphone generation for you.
Make dipsticks relevant again!what is wrong with these car designers. If you can’t start the car how can you check the oil levels 🤬it’s stupidity!!
