At a deposition, "relevant" subject matter is any question "reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence." It doesn't have to be admissible evidence, just calculated to possibly lead to admissible evidence.

I watched this due to Leonard Pitt's column this morning (besides wasting time when I should be working, although to my discredit it's equivalent to gawking at a car accident scene). Those who understand the nature of a deposition know that the deposing attorney's questions were appropriate. Of course, some attorneys might disagree. I've both taken and defended many depositions, and have deposed a few snotty, arrogant people, whose lawyers object constantly. But the level to which this young man stoops here is pretty low.

The case is that Bieber ordered his bodyguard to beat up a member of the Pap. By asking Bieber if he knew what his bodyguard's role was, what he was like, if Bieber recognises the claimant, Bieber's attitude towards Paps, the lawyers filing a law suit against Bieber has a stronger case. The people saying the questions the guy asks is irrelevant really need to think about why he's asking those questions. Umm, I can tell everyone from my experience of dealing with criminal court, when I was charged with Resisting an officer and Battery on an officer by a cop who provoked me and lied in the police report. There seems to be two types of offenders in the criminal court process: 1) those who are either wrongly accused or did minor things that get exaggerated and just desperately want the charges to get dropped or go away AND 2) those who are career criminals or regularly offend the law and don't care about jail or prison time and just consider it more of an inconvenience. I can tell you having been a Category 1 person myself, anyone wanting the charges to drop goes through the process RESPECTFULLY, because judges and juries do indeed look at an offenders respect for the law. Career criminals, however, are the ones violating probation, skipping out on probation officer appointments, and taking a lifetime to complete their community service hrs. Even though the cop who arrested me provoked me and lied in the report, as soon as I was given PreTrial Diversion, I went to the anger mgmt. and finished my Comm. service hours in 1 month! It wouldn't have helped me to be non-compliant with a Resisting an Officer charge.
I guess my point is Justin has the right to answer every question with "I don't recall." That understandably protects him legally, but being a disrespectful little prick does not make the criminal court process any easier. Most Category 1 people, as I stated before, just want the whole nightmare to go away, disappear, and be over with, like I did. This whole entire deposition is a joke they were asking him irrelevant questions about a case that he was a witness in. They victimised him they were rude to him and they were outright outrageous. They have no right to ask the questions that they did and hardly any of the questions were relevant to the case. He’s not whining about having to do a deposition he’s saying that the questions are irrelevant and not relevant to the case. You can’t call that whining. People are very quick to judge Justin Bieber but I’ve supported him for 16 years since 2007 since the videos on TH-cam people do not know him like the real fans know him. Like I know him

Why are so many people saying the questions are irrelevant? They really aren't. All the questions are building up a case against Bieber and his bodyguard.
The case is that Bieber ordered his bodyguard to beat up a member of the Pap. By asking Bieber if he knew what his bodyguard's role was, what he was like, if Bieber recognises the claimant, Bieber's attitude towards Paps, the lawyers filing a law suit against Bieber has a stronger case.
The people saying the questions the guy asks is irrelevant really need to think about why he's asking those questions.
Also, Bieber has probably been advised by his lawyers to be intentionally evasive and difficult in order to be as uncooperative as possible. Then again, Bieber is a dick, so that could just be him being himself.

Funny how people keep commenting on how he answers with, "I don't recall." HALF OF THE TIME that is a way of legally protecting oneself by not answering the question. The other half is when people are declining to answer the question, or in this case and the case of Lil Wayne, trying to be a disrespectful dick by not answering the questions. Lil Wayne obviously "recalls" being arrested for criminal possession of a firearm and drug possession and paraphernalia.

Umm, I can tell everyone from my experience of dealing with criminal court, when I was charged with Resisting an officer and Battery on an officer by a cop who provoked me and lied in the police report. There seems to be two types of offenders in the criminal court process: 1) those who are either wrongly accused or did minor things that get exaggerated and just desperately want the charges to get dropped or go away AND 2) those who are career criminals or regularly offend the law and don't care about jail or prison time and just consider it more of an inconvenience. I can tell you having been a Category 1 person myself, anyone wanting the charges to drop goes through the process RESPECTFULLY, because judges and juries do indeed look at an offenders respect for the law. Career criminals, however, are the ones violating probation, skipping out on probation officer appointments, and taking a lifetime to complete their community service hrs. Even though the cop who arrested me provoked me and lied in the report, as soon as I was given PreTrial Diversion, I went to the anger mgmt. and finished my Comm. service hours in 1 month! It wouldn't have helped me to be non-compliant with a Resisting an Officer charge.
I guess my point is Justin has the right to answer every question with "I don't recall." That understandably protects him legally, but being a disrespectful little prick does not make the criminal court process any easier. Most Category 1 people, as I stated before, just want the whole nightmare to go away, disappear, and be over with, like I did. JB is just a young, spoiled celebrity brat who is used to not being told "no" to whatever he feels like doing.
He has to be the stupidest, most disrespectful, pompous, little child who has ever walked the earth.
