  • The 2024 edition of Samsung’s premium 16” 2-in-1 Ultrabook laptop features their lovely 2.8K AMOLED 2X display supporting the included Samsung S Pen and touch, and is refreshed with an Intel 14th gen Meteor Lake Core Ultra 7 155H CPU with Intel Arc graphics. The supremely slim aluminum-clad laptop boasts improved battery life, Intel’s AI capabilities (put to use by some Samsung apps) and synergy with Samsung’s own Galaxy Android smartphones. As ever, the S Pen and AMOLED display make this a compelling Windows convertible for artists. Samsung is currently bundling a free 2TB Samsung T7 Shield SSD with the laptop.

Nobody ever really asked for thinner laptops. Lighter? Yes. Obviously. But I'd take half a centimeter more if it gave me better key travel, repairability and cooling.

yeah and removable ram, decent space for ssds and more ports the list goes on but laptop manufacturers want to sell you a new shiny piece of junk in max 3 years time so inbuilt obsolesence is the way. I'm sure I've seen a few that copied removing the 3.5mm headphone jack already...

@@osbertAt this moment, these are still made. Sager makes a good number of laptop chassis like this. In regards to thinner laptops, I absolutely would love a thinner machine (Currently using a Thinkpad Titanium). In 30 years time it will be a mute point regardless.

In 2008, Apple introduced the MacBook Air. Steve Jobs had it inside a Manila envelope. After that, everyone chased slim - even when laptops are too big to fit in any envelope. See: th-cam.com/video/XaS5_jPsCGc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=trnZnkbiQVN6MG66

Thanks Lisa, I agree with your take on the oversized track pad trend, and Samsung's move towards bloatware (spyware?) integration. Samsung's latest iteration of the GB360 is an appealing package, but after my frustrating customer support and design fail with a 2022 Galaxy Book that echoed other product fails with high-end Samsung products, I no longer equate the Samsung brand with with customer loyalty and in-turn no longer consider when it comes to mobile computing, mobile phone and home entertainment purchases.

How durable would you describe this laptop? Besides the hinges not being as sturdy, does the laptop have that feeling that if you look at it from the wrong angle it'll break?
I often get this feeling that thin= fragile but I've been trying to get in the mindset that some devices can be sturdy even if they are small/thin (my phone for example o.o he has been through so much more than my laptop).
So how many years of life or what level of resistance would you give this laptop?

Great review as always. I picked up a Book 2 Pro when the Book 3 came out but returned it due to a damaged hinge. Ended up going with an LG Gram 2in1, and it's also light and thin. There's still a lot of waviness in the pen though. How does the Book 4 compare? You used to do the diagonal line test.
Yes, the trackpad size is ridiculous on this Book 4, especially since you have a touchscreen.

I have the Book4 Pro 360 with the highest specifications. This is my first laptop in over 10 years and my first convertible. I really like it so far. The strengths are clearly the ecosystem and the work involved, moving files, Dex, etc., with my Fold5. Personally, I think the trackpad is actually good, even though I don't have any comparisons, but I find it handy when the laptop is on my thighs and I alternate with my hands. Well, a small disadvantage is that the keys are further back; maybe it could have been narrower from the top. Great video, by the way. 😊

It is so good to hear that the RAM modules are soldered! This ensures that there are no maintenance costs, very efficient! Where there is nothing to maintain, there are no maintenance costs.
It's nice that there are companies that look after their customers' needs so thoughtfully.

    • @marty9404
      @marty9404 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Naah. That's only half of the problem. What if you wanna expand the RAM by spending only a fraction of paying for an entirely new machine with higher RAM?
You just can't do that if it's soldered. You're stuck with the same RAM for life.

You can probably upgrade it, even if it's soldered it just takes someone talented at reflow soldering and access to the chips to get one and solder it. It's even possible with macbooks with ssds, but it needs a hacked firmware on the memory/ssd chip besides soldering.

I wish Samsung would do the same as Apple and MS and offer a 256GB/8GB model. It would knock at least £400 off, which would take it below £1400. It is tough to spend £1800, especially in the UK, with no current special offers. Also, there is no 14-inch version, which is weird as 16-inch is a bit big to be used as a tablet in your hands.
This is all about the display, but with other premium 2-in-1s also upping their display game, there is very little to choose between them, though I prefer IPS to avoid PWM, burn-in, higher max brightness, and eye strain. So my choice would be for around the same price, a base MB Air 15-inch M3 (£100 off already) and an iPad Pro, both discounted and totalling close to that £1800 for the Book4Pro360.

What I'm struggling with is the premium feel of a Macbook Pro. My boss used to keep me in brand new macbook pros and I got used to them. When he retired and therefore the party was over, I had to buy my own computer. I bought an Asus Rog Flow 13. And it just doesn't feel premium. Macbook Pros feel like cadillacs! I'm a Samsung S Ultra girl, so I'm wondering/hoping that this computer will feel premium like a Macbook Pro? I ended up buying an M1 Macbook Pro and I still struggle with using the Rog Flow even though I wish I could use it for games. But it's not premium, despite the price. Surely Samsung's computers will be premium-feeling?

The processors are weak across the entire lineup when you compare the same processor in other laptops such as the zenbook. I don't understand why especially considering Samsung is charging a premium. Really disappointed.
