The premise and structure was better but the characters didn’t have much to define themselves unlike the arcade ladder which game others more defined moments via their endings. But overall this is better cuz it allowed the player to connect with their own created characters and whoever side characters they brought along in the maps. If serious effort was made into a real story experience then it’d be golden.
In my head canon, my character faked his death after having betrayed his country despite ultimately saving it. And him wandering the world lead to Libra of Soul in SC6
. 😂 Your canon is very similar to mine. But in my case Niena (the name of my character) disappeared after the battle with Strife as she was swallowed by an Astral Gate that appeared due to the power of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, and then she was taken to the world of Libra of Souls.
Having played Chronicles first before getting 6 later down after the fact. Yeah this mode is fantastic and one of the best create a character modes in games I’ve seen. The story is total fanfic level predictable and silly but it kinda is self aware, and has enough depth in the original characters the mode gives to make us like some of them in addition to the ones we make from scratch. The main character here has some amount of depth with the loyalty to the empire, then his mentor telling him and by extension the player not to blindly follow orders. And are given a small but meaningful broad strokes of a character arc. Libra is a glorified oc insert with little to no bearing on the universe as a whole despite technically being canon.

There are two ways to avoid it. 1) SoulCalibur 3 Data must be the first one in your Memory Card, otherwise, playing any game that predates your SoulCalibur 3 Data has a chance of corrupting it. 2) Have a Memory Card exclusively for SC3 data. I still play this mode a lot, and I have never had that deadly bug again in MANY, MANY years.
My copy was one that NEVER could save my Chronicles of the Sword progress so I never made it too too far in this mode unfortunately :/ a few times I sat for hours just grinding through chapters to unlock some stuff but I never had the time to finish the whole mode in one sitting so... maybe one day through emulation but I don't really emulate much lol. Thanks for posting so I can finally see all the cutscenes!
My favorite mode & story in the entire series, the characters I created in this mode have continued with me until the very last installment, and since we're going back in time in SCVI, I felt like it was only fitting to recreate some of the bonus characters from Chronicles, alongside my own.
I feel like soup Calibur has gotten lazy in terms of cutscenes especially compared to 3. Chronicles of the sword made my created characters seem more alive
Oh I fucking remember Hyle. 4 hours. I spent 4 hours on the 2nd encounter and had to throw all 5 units at him to finally kill him. Barley managed to survive but got that chronicle beaten in the first try. Just multiple attempts at Hyle. Offense down bllllows.
Oh man. I remember playing this when I was 15. I unlocked Zasalamel move set and went through this entire mode. I made the edgiest grim reaper looking character. Definitely a Timmy's first deviant art OC kinda thing. Those were simpler.
What was the mode that had like a strategic map that you walked around and could choose your path? I think you had an army or a group of fighters with you
Ah, the game mode where it carpet bombs your memory card. Boring story and characters, I'll take Weapon Master and Libra of Souls over it. Bring back the custom movesets though, those were fire 😂
Libra of Souls is so boring and such pathetic excuse with Zero cutscenes bunch of images and texts mixed with each other with no voice acting compared to this legendary mode, I literally had to install hard or very hard mode for Libra of Souls because it’s too easy and I had to give myself a challenge
Very unpopular opinion. This is the best mode in the franchise. Especially best mode over boring Libra of Souls. Also, the memory card corruption can be avoided very easily. After all these years I still have my PS2, I still play this game and I have had no problems with it.

It's like I'm 13 all over again. I remember buying Soul Calibur III back in 07, during my years in middle school. Love the fact that I could create multiple characters for this specific mode, & the fact that your character gets their own statue at the end. Really gives you a sense of accomplishments. I was a little saddened that I had to defect to the Halteese Republic, after the betrayal of the Grandall Empire though.
