Truth be told: I was one of the goofy teenagers dancing to the left and sort of behind Janet Jackson on the steps (well, we thought it was dancing. Now that I'm looking at it, most of us were just wiggling). I kept thinking, "Hey, it's Penny from Good Times."
@@johnx5891 uhmmm Paula Abdul was hired by the Jackson’s ... she was put on by the Jackson’s and they suggested her to Janet ... who’s a really great dancer and can pick up advance choreography routines .... if Janet wasn’t a great dancer ...Paula couldn’t have beeen used ... so nooo Janet and the Jackson put PAULA ON ... Janet would’ve just hired another choreographer
@Lucy Anna ... this is a Janet Jackson video ... this is a Janet inspired comment.... who cares about the order ... MJ being Janet brother was not enough to make Janet one of the best selling female artist of all time ... and Michael really pioneered choreography... but Janet made it a STANDARD for music videos ... stop tryna downplay Janet on her OWN VIDEO
@@johnx5891 Don't start that bs. Janet is WAY bigger than Paula so she brought it to a much major platform. Paula has done great in her own right but no need to compare.
Went through 3 Control cassette albums wearing them out each time...still love the album and still my favorite "Miss Jackson" album...because I'm nasty! That black outfit of hers always got to me! Thanks for posting and sharing.
I always felt staging was where this show had ST beat. Artists like Janet, her brothers, Sister Sledge, Shalamar and other groups that did a lot of dancing had more room to move on the Bandstand set so it made the performances a little more exciting to watch.
You were trying to write "Live" ( Damn Spell Check) but this was Dick Clark's ( RIP) doing...He never wanted any problems with how an artist sounded and wanted the song to sound like the record " The Kids" bought...Dick Clark a.k.a. "Oldest Teenager" started in radio, so how something sounded was important to him...
Manufacturing Yourself isn't a hard task...Janet literally has writing credits, play keyboards and sang most if not all of her background vocals ..Janet and Paula worked closely on the choreography and you can't leave out Jam and Lewis who gave her a unique sound but Janet brought the heat, the attitude and her life experiences...This was her 3 album and her talent was there since birth but only showcased at 7 years old...You know Janet is never mentioned as being " The Ultimate Child Star" but by this time Janet would already appear in Vegas, 4 sitcoms/shows where she would showcase not just acting and performing but she also sang and danced...Janet was allegedly an artist that benefitted from her famous family but she never wanted to ride or rely on her name...it didn't hurt that she is a Jackson but Janet also broke barriers and walls down...Janet literally became the Blue Print for a Female Pop Star...Anyone after Janet would be manufactured. Janet would end up being "THE HIGHEST PAID ARTIST" twice with deals that couldn't be match even by MJ (RIP) at the time...Do me a favor, watch " 10 Reasons How Janet Jackson Changed The Industry, Forever"...
Paula Abdul was an incredible choreographer... Janet ate this performance up...💯
i was just thinking this!!!
when she got together with jam and lewis THAT WAS THE SPARK SHE NEEDED!!
HER FIRST REAL HIT!!! GREAT SONG!!
Not her first "real hit," but her biggest pop crossover hit up until that time.
You tripping this was not her 1st real hit

Tp all the negative comments Haters gonna hate she started a new movement in music and dance and she still continues today
This performance is wild, I swear
THE GREATEST FEMALE ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME. TO BE CONTINUED..❤🎉
I actually stayed home from going to King's Dominion cause Janet & The Jets were on AB this day! No lie!

Naw, I would have taped the show and gone to ride the Rebel Yell and ride to the top of that fake Eiffel Tower.

Is this the dance number choreographed by Paula Abdul?
Yep until her n Jackie Jackson brokeup 1989
@Ike N she was fuckin Jackie Jackson the older brother of the jacksons
@Ike N u mad
Prince wrote this song
@Ike N prince wrote this for LaToya jackson but gave it to janet
They used the routine from NASTY in the first part of the song
🌹❤I REMEMBER JANET JACKSON🌹❤🌷
I liked this one better that the ST one because they had a lot more room to move. This was great.

Did anyone notice that the choreography for “What Have You Done for Me Lately” has bits and pieces used in the choreography for “Nasty”
Yep I did
Paula Abdul who later became a singer herself was Janet's choreographer
❤❤❤

Prince gave her this
No he didn't. He claimed so, but it was written by Janet, Jam and Lewis. Naturally there is a Minneapolis sound, Jam and Lewis were Prince protege's.
