Kick i is like a compilation of all the sound she explored with all the kicks. The following kicks do have their own genres - hyper-reggaeton, deconstructed club, experimental hiphop, ambient and classical music
Ripping the slit is like ripping the binary, or ripping oneself into the unknown. In the trans/non-binary community, the terminology “cracking the eggshell” is used for when someone recognized and comes to terms with their transness and begins their identification with it. Arca’s entire KiCk name is a reference to a fetus’ kick against their mother’s womb. It’s no act of malice, there’s no selfish intention, but an innocent act of life expressing itself (a baby kicking the mother’s womb to Arca is the first expression of a life that wants to express, or move, itself - and the innocence in this is what’s important, as a lot of anti-trans or conservative people say transness is an act of selfish narcissism, or self-fulfillment, or a running away from one’s original gender or “destined” place in the world - this Arca refutes and rejects entirely as she believes transition to be a running into, an innocent expression and momentum toward something, rather than an escape). When it comes to the song Rip the Slit, it’s literally an anthem about “cracking your eggshell”. In an act of self acceptance, confidence, and even necessity and compassion, Arca is ripping the slit. She’s coming through something onto the other side, ripping through the barriers in the process, whether those be social/political or extrinsic barriers or interpersonal, intrinsic barriers. It’s repetition is that of a repeating anthem. Also: La Chiqui is literally divine imo. The production quality and the content of the song is like two gods of production running into each other. It sounds like such an impact, like two forces colliding. It’s so insane to me idk. Def too much for some on the way it sounds, but nevertheless so important imo. I see it also as a testament to the glitching of language that comes with articulating a trans identity. A lot of the time when it comes to Arca’s stance on trans issues in society and politics, she believes there’s a massive language barrier and issue. She has said herself that even when she tries to describe herself and what she is, language glitches. La Chiqui is like a testament to language and “shaking it” through the language problem. As the world glitches trying to understand you and you glitch trying to understand yourself, keep shaking and break a barrier with that movement. Soooo cunt. Obsessed w Arca philosophy queen.
My favorite song off this album is definitely mequetrefe I always listen to it when I’m waking alone and there’s homophobic people around me without the fear of being laughed at
Yes as someone else said listen to björk Edit: Homogenic and vespertine are her most critically acclaimed albums and are considered some of the greatest music ever made in history So buckle up lol
So happy that you did this reaction, I definitely think you should do the entire kick series! It’s a whole story in art and music. Each album is extremely different from the next and they each have their own vibe. If you get through the entire series, she also has two albums before herself titled called. Xen and mutant! Mostly all production however, some incredible stuff. Can’t wait for kick.iiii that’s my personal favorite but yeah, you should definitely do all of the kicks!! ❤
👏👏👏, This album was such a great representation of where she was at in her life, and the production reflected her growth . I had been a fan of Arca's work for a few years, especially when she helped produce Bjork's most recent albums . Now when it comes to Bjork, Oye , No Joke you gotta listen to her discography in chronological order. Her Sound & Musical Evolution is F*+*ing Amazing 🤯🤯. On top of all that she also a Visual Artists who's Music Videos are Dope A.F. - Debut 93 - Post 95 - Homogenic 97 - Vespertine 2001 - Medulla 2004 - Volta 2007 - Biophilia 2011 - Vulnicura 2015 - Utopia 2017 - Fossora 2022 Ps. Good Job 👍 and continue on ward with the Arca Series.
You should listen to Oils of every pearl's un-insides by SOPHIE, and if you already listen to it, then you should listen to the deluxe album (remix album), it has side 1 and side 2, my favorite is the first side :))
Commenting just to let you know the collaboration between Arca and Björk first takes place on the latter’s albums Vulnicura (2015) and Utopia (2017). If you’re going for a deep dive on her discography, do make sure to check that one out, although I definitely wouldn’t start on that one with Björk. I’d recommend something like: Debut, Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, Vulnicura and then Utopia. Great reaction until then! Hope you’re going to have fun with the rest of the Kicks.
I wonder what you'll think about kick iiiii tbh. It's modern classical and very soothing to the soul. One of my favorite projects of her. I think you will understand it when you listen to it :D
Okay, my last comment now (probably lol). kick iii is mostly experimental hip hop. Arca started making music under this pseudonym with experimental hip hop. It's sort of the return to her roots in a way. It's as crazy as all the other albums of hers but it's definitely the most compelling to me. I think you also liked the craziness of JPEG's newest album (with Danny Brown). kick iii is definitely as crazy or even more crazy than that to me, lol. Hope you will check it out soon. ❤
I know she’s had her hand in experimental hip hop like for Kanye’s Yeezus, so definitely can’t wait for that. And I did a reaction to “Scaring the hoes” it’s on the channel. Great album!👏🏽
I love your videos man!!! I personally liked the kick series but recently I have loved her earlier mixtapes including Entrañas, @@@@@, &&&&&, and Sheep. Very experimental and very emotional for ARCA.
This album is amazing, it has been an opener to my vision of what art is, especially in music and that there's no boundaries. You're going to like Kick ii but you're going to die on Kick iii, in a good way lmaooo and I enjoyed your reaction ! Looking forward to the next ones
I'd recommend doing all of them. Kick 3 and 5 are my favourites, 3 I like to listen to while working out and 5 is great for some ambience while doing work or a nighttime walk. 2 and 4 are the weakest in the series imo, but they're still great albums with tracks I listen to frequently.
She wrote mequetrefe after having an experience waling down the streets of her town while being laughed at and judged by a group of men at night while she continued waling in her mini skirt and heels she recorded it too u can find it on yt
Sucks so much how people can be, just evil and disgusting that can’t mind their own business or look their own way and project their own insecurities to make others feel bad so they can feel good, bunch of low life people. Amazing what Arca did to make that moment to an empowering moment, using it for her strength and a way to help others. I read your other comment and sorry that you have to go thru that just being yourself. I love what music can do. Hope for only peace and love for you and people affected by this🙏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Only problem i got with arca is obviously shes gonna have a big white/European following so it’s cringe with those type of people tryna ride the reggaeton/dembow wave

Good to note, can’t wait to get into it, thank you🙏🏽 you’ve been supporting the channel for a while and I appreciate that🙏🏽🙌🏽
STOP holding the Arca content hostage 😭 I need it pa 😩

Lol thank you🙏🏽
i think you’ll adore Vespertine (my favourite of Björk’s) and Homogenic for sure
This was one of my quarantine 2020 albums. So good forever !!
funny you mention cyberpunk, shygirl actually has a song within the game’s body heat radio! it’s called slime
I gotta go back and check it out, but it really makes so much sense👏🏽💯
Machote has the lyrics of the song: quiero una chica- Latin dreams , and also arca used her own song “wound” from her album Xen to make the song :)
Rosa blanca de metal is a reference to the lyrics of Desesperada by Marta Sanchez
"Soy una mujer normal
Una rosa blanca de metal"
shygirl-slime was in cyberpunk!
Thats actually really dope and makes so much sense and I’m so happy for that🙌🏽👏🏽
