Update: I did love it 🙌 Now lets hope for a second season. Btw the whole cast is amazing. I recognized almost all of the actors between ‘22 July’, ‘Home for Christmas’ and of course ‘Skam.’

I love both of them since Skam, especially David.
I wish they wouldn't change the sound of their names in English. I noticed Norwegians often do that when speaking English. It drives me crazy sometimes, because they have beautiful names and mostly they are easy to pronounce.
So please stay DAH-VEED, we have plenty of DAY-VEEDs.
@omb I get where you're coming from. Maybe for me it's strange, because I'm trying so hard to speak the language properly and immerse in the culture. Once I was at an event where we were introducing each other. There were two Norwegian guys. Their names were Jon and Jonas, but they introduced themselves as John and Jonas (English pronunciation). Everyone acted normal, but in my head I was shouting their real names.
Also, recently we have a tendency in Russia to say our real names in English, rather than anglicised. So I possibly expected others to do the same.
@omb yeah that saddens me too. Just the realisation that I was always choosing a name for my future children that would fit criteria: 1) to be a standard Russian name 2) to have an English equivalent, speaks for itself (at least to me).
I think like the only Scandinavians who don't make their name fit with English are from Iceland (and maybe the Faroe Islands, never met them though). They either change their name completely or say their real name and never hear it again from another person during the conversation.
@@landrewmountain Well, if you're looking into it, it's inaccurate to change it up to an english version, just because they're speaking english. Because it's an "own name" with a capital front letter. Meaning it can be pronounced however. It's not a common word.
That being said, it does make way more sense to change "David" into "DAY-VEED", when speaking english. It makes it more flexible and more easy to remember. Saying there's too many "Day-veeds" is a poor read on reality. It's how it is.
@@MikkaBoii when I wrote the first comment, it was in a TH-cam comment style. It's an exaggeration, what I really meant was I personally don't like when people try to anglicise themselves (think of it, we have people whose names are actually Day-veeds and then people from all over the world whose names are equivalent, but pronounced differently. They just make it sound Day-veed, so that it would be easier, as they believe). I believe that we should first give people a chance with a real namr and then simplify.

Every nordic country is fluent in english from like the age of 9-10. Why is this so surprising? We learn it from age 5-6 ish.
@@thanossnap4170 i guess since Americans aren’t strictly taught other languages that other countries should have to learn english? i dont really know. its very cool they get taught english at such a young age but we dont get taught anything at all :(
@@nataliekitchin7436 Yeah i think we learn it because it's a more "universal" language. Americans and Brits probably only have other languages as optional courses? Like you can learn it if you want? Here it's mandatory to learn english. And we can usually choose a third one in middle school.
The fact that I'm so used to Herman's hair from Skam that I didn't realize that I was him at first says something about me

I think David lived in North Carolina for a while when growing up, I think that's why his pronunciation is better than Herman :)

Ragnarok is a show that definitely proves the adage that "first appearances can be deceiving". When you encounter the first episode, it is obvious the show has a limited budget, and many will be quick to dismiss the show because they are accustomed to big budget spectacles. I urge you to reconsider. The story and acting are great and it really draws you into the mythology of the series. You soon forget about the lower production values, as you immerse yourself in this world. I am looking forward to more seasons. Its nice, as an American, to get another version of how Norse mythology would play out in the modern world, with all of its own problems, apart from the Disney/Marvel comic book treatment of the subject matter
I agree that it is nice to see how Norse mythology could translate to current times. And it is refreshing to see a Norwegian show about teenage life that is on Netflix so that more (young) people can learn about Norway.
They really don't need a bigger budget, the acting is good and the filming locations are stunning 😍
I didn't even notice it was "low budget". The locations are absolutely STUNNING, the actors are brilliant, the filming style is great and I found the special effects very good. It didn't give me the "low budget" vibe at all, they just used enough effects to seem realistic.
Even though it might be budget-related, I think part of the reasons why the effects are different than what we see in blockbusters is simply because European cinematography is just different than USA, it focuses more on characters and story, not the looks. Also, I appreciate how they depict teenagers - the actors and the clothes because they are so much more realistic than what we're accustomed to see. So refreshing!

This series is incredible! My husband and I binged it in one evening and was BEYOND DEVASTATED when it was over. Have kinda wanted to cry every night since👀. We do not binge to this extent ever, until now. We both had to get up at 7 a.m. We did not go to bed until 4 a.m. At 2 a.m., we declared we were making really bad choices in staying up this late, knowing our obligations to come. We said f-it, acknowledged our addiction and continued. I love the content so much, that even saying that is an understatement! I could go into great detail as to why, on so many levels; however, I would like to take this time to praise the actors and actresses. I am so impressed with their performance! It is such a treat to see amazingly great talent from other countries!!! Brilliant work!!

There is something about these ragnarok actors never get tired of seeing them I’m on my 3rd viewing of season 2 want season 3 already I hope it comes back for another run what an awesome show and an awesome cast if some get into Hollywood films some day it would not surprise me at all they material enough
