The desire to commit to a man or a woman you may have thought was God ordained only to find out it was not is stunningly hurtful, deceitful and full of indiscretions. I continue to study for my daughter's sake.

Thank you Chad, love your explanations and the way your are talking. I think marriage will be for life if people would ask God if it is right person and not their desire at the moment.

Thank you once again, Chad. Jesus' teaching here really is stunning to American ears most certainly. God's design, his order IS important. And how it rubs against our strong-willed yen to have our own ways. One thing this highlights also is the depth of Jesus' forgiving love. All our marriages have marked failures, though they may not end in divorce. Husbands and wives are well-served by crying out, "Lord, have mercy." A good practice together as well. God's peace.

I'm curious about instances of alchohol. If you leave someone who won't stop drinking does that mean losing your right in Gods eyes to remarry if alchoholic spouse was faithful?

Doesn't have to be adultery. It was because she was not found to be a virgin, after he has entered her. The contrast to this is seen when a man takes a woman from her father and she was not found to be a virgin. The father must return the shekels to the man and the woman was to be put to death for playing the whore in her fathers house. You can't put the woman to death because she lost her father in the war against israel. Therefore, a bill of divorce is given to her as form of release and protection. You people are making this way harder than it is, the law is clear. No one needs jesus or the new testament to understand this. The woman takes the bill of divorce to prove that she is not the wife of her former husband. If she didn't take the bill of divorce, her former husband could come and have her stoned for adultery.
