She only liked Sonia for the woman she was. Then when she learnt of her dads fondness towards Sonia, she was fascinated with the idea of the woman a man (here her father) can fall in love with. And then she started becoming that woman. She loved the way her father wrote about & for Sonia. She was always aware about her mom. But once she became like Sonia Jahan, & realised the reality, the abandonment issues, delusion, wrong message her father gave her & especially his hypocrisy & after experiencing kinds of men & their hypocrisy, she started taking stand for her mom. At the beginning, she wanted to be like the woman her father loved, desired for. She liked the idea of men praising a woman. With time, she wanted to be like her just to punish her own father because she realised his hypocrisy. & at the end, she was reduced to just another version of Sonia, who has hate for Sonia. Soon she started hating sonia. Because in the entire process, in becoming someone like her, she lost herself, Qasim, relationships, peace, self respect & everything. She was left with nothing. But only a few realisations, lessons, learnings of reality of life. The entire story is very deep & beautiful. The transition of Sassi (like you said, from loving the idea of Sonia Jahan, to liking the thought of becoming like her, then becoming like her & hating her in between to finally hating ownself) is so beautiful. Sassi went through so many phases. The character actually evolved in a beautiful way. So many feelings, emotions, sides, phases of her personality that went changing. Also, there were two women she saw, Mammo and Sonia, one who is never loved by a man & the other one being loved by men including her own father. She was actually stuck between those two. Somewhere inside, because of the abandonment issues, trauma her father gave her because of his actions, and the way she saw men & love because of him, she had a fear deep inside her, of becoming like Mammo & never being loved. More than wanting to being loved, she feared of being rejected. (isliye she never loved Qasim, but got hurt when she got to know he married Amna) So she thought of becoming Sonia. And wanted to be loved by Wajee. She only wanted to become the woman she always fantasized about, especially the idea of a woman her father gave her.
