As a guy who lived with a Glasgow lass for years, I found Phil's Scottish football stories fascinating.

I would love it if Bamford came on as a sub at Millwall and won the game for Leeds. That would ensure his re-integration into the squad and have the fans respecting him properly again.

No it wouldn’t … he had a one season wonder like Ricky lambert did .. he comes back scores a goal then misses tap ins for next 6 games it’s like playing the same broke CD over and over .

He's out for the next 3 games, he's as much chance of coming on against Millwall and scoring as I have.

Football has been sanitised and feminised, it's called banter and I got some of my best bants from ER, I loved the chants! It's only words and the humour was magnificent! You're playing your part in destroying the game I loved.

millwall and leeds have a rivalry for one single reason: service crew versus bushwackers. without that element there is zero rivalry between these two clubs.

It's psychology - Leeds are the badass team from (traditionally/historically) the 1st Division/Prem; Millwall are the badass team from the 2nd Division/Championship. When we are relegated we are in their badass territory. It's a different sort of bad blood thing to the likes of Chelsea and Cardiff.

Not sure that is quite the associations they are wanting for their brand.

The rivalry between Leeds and Millwall is surely nothing more than both sets of fans trying to prove they are more badass than the other. Millwall had a reputation for a while in the 80’s and 90’s as being a dirty team and the fans loved that. And, of course, Leeds were known as Dirty Leeds since before Clough called us that. And our fans don’t care what other fans think about us. Put those together and you have a combustible atmosphere among the fans. There’s no rivalry between the teams that I know of.

Horrific songs like these ones discussed are such a tricky situation and extremely hard to eradicate. Like Phil I’ve been at Old Trafford when we’ve sung about Munich, and them about Istanbul, and it’s mainly mindless idiots starting them off and a mob mentality when they continue. In my opinion the clubs are futile when it comes to dealing with chanting, it’s the responsibility of the fans to stop them. Only way to do it is to appeal to the masses- I.e we take 4,000 to old Trafford, there might be 300 lads singing about Munich. The other 3,700 either need to take the responsibility to shut them up, or sing something over them so it’s drowned out to the point of silence. You’ll never get clubs punishing the 300 lads because it’s so infeasible, but if I hear a lad next to me singing about Munich it’s my responsibility to tell him to shut his mouth. You’d get arguments in amongst the fans no doubt but if nothing is done it’ll never stop and clubs have no chance of shutting up the idiots.

Football is about expression. Good and ugly. Both on the pitch, players, and off it, fans. For a more sanitised experience that less represents all of society, and therefore reality, there's golf.
