The 1970 entrant is actually a super famous kids singer in the francophone world, my mum had a ton of his CDs when I was a toddler :)
My favourites of Switzerland's entries:
- 2014 (I was personally surprised that Sebalter didn't make the top 5, I only liked Hungary, Switzerland and The Netherlands that year)
- 2019 (Great song, deserved placement)
- 2020 (Even though Eurovision is canceled is year, Repondez Moi was extremely underrated by the Eurofans, this song would've at least been 3rd)
French, German, Italian, English and even a romance language called Romansh in 1989 - I love that Switzerland has used so many different languages over the years. I also like that this year Gjon brought back a language other than English for the first time in ten years. I hope Switzerland gets the win again sometime soon! 🇨🇭
Switzerland is my winner 2 years in a row now. I'm so happy they found out Eurovision again
My other favorites
-1956 (both of them)
-1958
-1969
-1986
-1988
-1991
-1993
-2011
-2012
-2014
-2017
-2018
Henry Dès is my childhood hero, he's famous for his children's song
I know it has only been 2 years, so we can't say really much about it, but Switzerland started to think like a powerhouse country since 2019.
I might actually say Gjons Tears might be my favorite entry EVER from any country, first time I heard it I burst into tears and I don't know French LOL.
Cooronovirus stole third victory
It may have just delayed it
You must be kidding, Matt. I got to know you at a guided ESC tour in Tel Aviv, and besides being a nice guy you impressed my with your encyclopedic knowledge, you knew literally every single bit about all entries of all time. And now so many knowledge gaps? Well, I take it as a metaphore.
Anyway, thanks for another interesting video. I disagree in most points, but this is what makes it thrilling.
Great work!
I almost agree on all of your opinions and as a swiss i can say i remembered some of the songs neither or didn't want to remember them🙈 (1998&2004). My personal favorites are Djambo Djambo, Swiss Lady (which was written btw. by Peter Reber from Peter,Sue&Marc and which is still a classic here) , Cool Vibes & this years Repondez-moi
Grüsse aus der Schweiz🇨🇭
My top 10:
1. 1988
2. 1986
3. 1974
4. 1993
5. 2020
6. 1972
7. 2005
8. 1973
9. 2018
10. 1956 winning song
My top 3 from Switzerland are 2014, 2019 and 2017
Most of my favorite Swiss entries were from the 80s and 90s. I also love the entry for this year.
I don't rememer many Swiss songs as well.
2005, 2010 has some distant memories.
1988, 2012-14, 2019 I somehow like.
I guess we all have a "Go the bathroom/make some coffee" song each year and Switzerland has been that song for many years.
"Hunter of Stars" is my personal favourite song of all time. I hated "She Got Me" at the time because it beat Sebalter in the National Final, but I've warmed up to it. I was heartbroken when "La Fine Dell'Estate" was released right before Gjon was announced because that was the final nail in the coffin of him coming back to Eurovision.
Vampires Are Alive is one of my favourites. An essential Halloween song.
🧛🏻♂️🧛🏻♀️🎃
I love 2013 so much. One of the biggest robberies in Semifinals ever
That was so bad...
2018 was the biggest
Matt, I LOVE your Pac-Man t-shirt!!!
Patrick 'I love America' Juvet. I forgot he entered Eurovision in 1973
You know the reason why they manage to win again was because they couldn’t quit getting chocked, therefore, they bought in Celine Dion to help them win their second contest hahaha.
Matt is letting his hair grow!
Actually in 1963, the norvegian jury didn't had the full results ready yet. They told their half-way votes when they were called. They finally announced their final votes at the end. So they didn't cheat actually.
There’s an error in Eurovision 1983 Sweden finished 3D place with 126 points, Switzerland finished 15th place with 28 points
Great to see you reacting to a country again. I think Switzerland had some good entries in the past and also in recent years. My favs: 1958, 1963, 1970, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2019 and 2020. Out of them 1981, 1988, 1993 and 2019 stand out for me. I was surprised you didn't mentioned the similarity of 1982 with Congratulations of Cliff Richard.
Fun Fact: Nearly everyone loved 2015 Switzerland but they was 40th (last) with 4 points. 😂😔
And almost dead last in the German televote. Says everything 😆 (I thought it was last but that was 2016)
It grew on me. I thought it was too generic-sounding when I first heard it, but I got to really like it. Same with Amber from that same year. (Btw, I didn't actually hear these, or most Eurovision stuff, until 2018.)
I love it
nil erra What does that say? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending the song, I disliked it, too. I am just wondering how is the German televote the proper authority for song quality?

The point was.. If you don't do well with your cultural friends or diaspora, it will be very rare to get support from the rest. That's how usually works. There are trends.
If the UK don't get points from Ireland or Australia.. They won't from other countries. Same with Nordics. With Balkans. Spain-Portugal. Italy-Albania. Belgium-Netherlands. And so on.
love 1973's je vais ma marier marie by patrick juvet
I loved Läss ihn too ! And 2008 & 2018 deserved to qualify. I liked Apollo but the staging wasn’t good
My faves:
1956
1963
1988
1990
1991
1993
2011
2014
So happy to see 1990 & 2011 on that list - Matt
There are more than one way to define "last place" since the introduction of the semi finals. But in my opinion, Anna Rossinelli did not finish last in 2011. There were 18 songs that did not qualify from the semis, so absolutely not last, in my opinion. Really great song, though.
Melanie Rene in 2015 on the other hand; last in the semi and with less points than Finland, who finished last in the other semi. THAT is a last place.
And this might be a bit controversial, but "Time To Shine" was my favourite in 2015. Seems I was in a very small minority...
I love it
Not a good recap of the songs, mostly you couldnt hear the chorus, so no wonder you can't remember them 😉
My personal favourites from Switzerland are 1980, 1991 and 1993.
I'm also really liking 1981 and 1982, and thought they had a good chance this year
Unfortunately, I'm not a massive fan of 1988 and thought there were many better songs that could have won (Denmark, Norway, Israel, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden...)
I was so angry when ZIBBZ didn't qualify....
1988 was of course were she Made her debut
My top 5 is(in random order):
1988
1981
2005
2019
2020
Besides in recent times with 2020, 2019 and 2018, I actually think only 2005 & 2014 has been good besides.
My favourites;
1956 both songs❤️❤️❤️
1958❤️
1967 ❤️❤️❤️was great.It got 0 point.What an injustice
1969❤️
1975❤️❤️❤️

2019❤️❤️❤️winner
Could it be that you have no connection to French and Italian culture and therefore just like songs in English or German? I for myself was quite impressed by these chansons in french, especially those back in the 60s. They have much more class than these kitschy Schlager in German that followed later.
Nope, I'm just excited when a song is in German cause I speak the language. There are a lot of songs that I highlighted (1971, 1980 etc) that are in French and are just so beautiful. - Matt
Switzerland should have won in 1969.
Best swiss songs - Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes (I'm from Estonia and a huge fan of Vanilla Ninja), Celine Dion - Nous Partez Pas Sans Moi, Gjon's Tears - Repondez-Moi and Luca Hänni - She Got Me. But overall - Switzerland has pretty bad songs.
They were sooo robbed in 2017
