Always held Rayel in a high regard after being swept up by his trance masterpieces on Armada, and this remix is no exception as a display of enormous potential not just as a trance artist, but one whose reach extends beyond his home genre into other fields of electronic music. The drop is clearly infused with elements from the Progressive scene whilst also keeping true to Rayel's own trance recipe. However, I do think that with this remix Rayel has shown that he still needs to polish and properly master his work if he wants his music to resonate with an audience much wider than the trance crowd. His melodic capability and chordal insights are brilliant, as trance artists usually are in those areas, but as an almost Progressive House remix, this song needs more bass and general mastering to deliver the same impact as, for example, trance tracks that do not necessarily need to be perfectly mastered for them to feel lacking (as they generally have a lot going on... for a long time). The lead is sidechained a little too aggressively in my opinion, especially considering how it almost dominates the entire drop, with background filler FX given too little significance. It needs stronger pads to fill out the drop with a solid underlayer of simple base chords. I still love Rayel's work. This remix shows that we can expect a lot to come in the future from one of Armada's elite.
You are right, but I dont think he put on too much sidechain on the lead, I think its fine like this, propably some release on the chords´ lead or so, but overall I agree with your opinion! #trancefamily
I disagree. I think beautiful tracks like this do not need bass. I also think that mastering to a strict extent restricts the raw feel of the song. He doesn't need to be like others. The sidechain I again disagree with but I can see where you're coming on that front. The lead dominates the drop well with my ears. There is one thing I agree with in terms of Rayel's track, and it is that the pads do need to be stronger, especially the second drop. He is a great artist nonetheless.
Nexa Although I wholeheartedly agree that a song should be always give off raw feeling, I feel that encapsulating that kind of inherent emotion, in an electronic track nonetheless, is very difficult to do. Adding a layer of vocals seems like the easiest thing to do, but Matthew Koma's already done that job, so it's entirely down to how Rayel expresses himself through his synths and melodies. Unfortunately, I find it hard to detect anywhere close to the level of raw emotion here that he pours into his trance music. The intrinsic nature of Progressive House makes its artists very vulnerable to generic production; following that factory-processed track formula that EDM seems to be all about nowadays. And I fear that Rayel has fallen victim to that very monotony, even despite his potential for trance-originated liberty. Whilst the drop has a fantastic melody, it still needs a fuller sound which only comes from background pads and yes, the bass layers. 'Raw' is quite an apt description for it, but that's not necessarily a good thing because it also implies a level of 'virginal' inexperience. I'm not expecting a Daft Punk-esque level of polish (if anything, Random Access Memories was too sterile), but I do feel that Rayel has left some gaps in his remix that leaves a little to be desired.
When I heard this in the first place, I was like "I prefer the original than this." Then later, when I kept on hearing this, (I got tired of the original so I was used to hearing this) I started to realize that this remix is better than the original. Just because the melody and the drop has more energy.
Amazing how Andrew Rayel has become one of the best DJs of the day, all of his songs are creative and have that special something. Keep it up Andrew! Mini Armin ;)
SO GOOD. I was a little upset when the beat dropped because from how it sounded I expected a loud bass sound but it was a little soft :( other than that I LOVE THIS SONGGGGGGGGGGGGG (Remixed)
