@@nightrunnerxm393 The company is not dumb. You are all pretty arrogant thinking a company is that stupid to not recognize anything their customers want. They can't to go by everything on TH-cam which people post, because it's not represantive of everything. They don't just randomly choose the color blue.
My issue with link summon is that for years the meta of the game had been changed and pushed to streamline decks that special summon. Then link summoning happens witch comes around and changes the strength of our decks and changes just how it can work. I have come to somewhat expect what they had added to the game, but I won't lie I stopped playing for a year when link hit the TCG
Abdoulaye Diarra When it comes to competitive tournaments. Winning is all that matters, but if you are just playing casual with your friends or family then you can have fun as much as you want. I own Ghost Ogre but I don’t want to use it if it’ll ruin the fun or cause the other to lose interest, because I mean come on it’s just a game.
About Casual and Comp players. I have a friend in discord who said something that I do quite agree on in regards to this, here's what he said: I believe there's 4 types of players in this game. Most people say its only casual players or competitive players but in my opinion there's 4 types. 1- the meta tryhard - the guy that only runs meta and calls any player nub if he isnt running a meta deck. Usually just knows how to play 1 meta deck and is clueless about anything that isnt meta. 2- pro competitive player - plays mainly meta but has a deep knowledge of the game and usually knows how to play multiple decks including rogues and for fun decks 3- rogue player - a dude that tries to make a rogue deck as competitive as possible. Usually knows how to play meta but chooses to run rogue and optimise the build in order to beat meta. 4- casual player - a guy that doesnt know or doesnt even touch meta. Just runs for fun decks and usually is out of competitive scenerio.
You see, as a casual player who only plays with his friends I am, I have only one Link monster and I always ignore it. I just go and do a Synchro or an Xyz. Also, if I summon Extra Deck monster from the graveyard they go to the Main Monster Zone being there a Link or not, so I don't care.
MR4 and Link monsters were made to reign in how stupid Pendulum had gotten. if MR4 only affected Link monsters and Pendulums. (leaving Synchros, xyz, and fusions unaffected) fewer people would be complaining.
The link monsters themselves to me are fine. Just dont like the whole aspect of mr4 trying to say you practically need a link monster to use any other method unless the deck can actually go well without it. As for net decking, i couldn't care less if you netdeck but if everyone starts using the same deck then yeah, thats where i draw the line.
How many people actually copy decks to the letter? Every deck I ever made was at least a little bit different from the internet decks. But hey, maybe I just overthink things.
I personally think that you should play a deck you like AND add staples to it to make it good enough so that even if your opponent plays meta, you can still duel while having fun.
Last point I am both lol. I like the chess element of the game. I dont mind getting blown out by my opponent. But I do not like people "winning" by locking people out
@@brianaguilar8283 that is correct. I however like control decks. Control can play stun and floodgates. What I mean by control is spellbook and sky striker . What I am meaning is I enjoy the back and forth gameplay, not oh hi my opponent you will not be able to beat me because I wont let you do anything.
Team APS if it burned in a dumpster fire, I wouldn’t lose sleep to be honest... but I enjoy a few decks that incorporate the new mechanic. It’s the fact I had to relearn the game in a way.. which isn’t the same as just adding something new.
I like the links because they stoped a lot of just spam with other summoning methods and they are not the worst things go play they are not the best but not the worst
Ok responding to your last topic, i've played this since arc V and believe it or not, i've mainly seen people who are competitive or just run competitive decks with more casual people. Most of those casual people were people who didnt like mr4, others were just overconfident players. And i rarely meet anyone whos played this format who plays for fun. Personally it saddens me because I want to play for fun but i rarely see anyone else who does. And before you ask, this was online i got no where irl nearby to play.
I think we should stay with our friends. if I have friends that like link monsters, maybe get a link deck. if they are casual, become casual. friendship and fun is most important on this game.
As far as most of these go I feel like I'm somewhere in the middle. 1. MR4 - I'm fresh back after quitting sometime in 2005 and I really don't have an issue with link monsters, although I missed previous formats. I don't like them not having a defense position however nor do I like the laddering 2. Creativity - Honestly I don't think this has changed much over the years. Back in the early 2000s people still ran very similar decks, the difference was it was a little harder to find lists or order singles. The differences weren't so much creativity but players making the best out of what they had. 3. Hand traps - they're fine as long as they're accessible. This seemingly new trend of them in structure decks is great (Duel Power helped a lot as well) 4. Expensive cards - can't disagree with what was said already. It's on the players supporting those insane prices as well as the short prints. 5. Casual vs Competitive - play however makes you happy. I'm a competitive person but I won't play decks I don't like. Fortunately, LW and some others are good rogue options but this isn't the case for every archetype. In any competitive video game there are metas and some characters are just better than others, so that being the case in a TCG as well just seems par for the course.
- I'm definitely in the anti-MR4 camp. I always rolled my eyes at the people who keep complaining about Synchros, XYZ, and Pendulums because they didn't have to play them as decks could still function fine with or without them. But with MR4, it feels like the first time a summoning mechanic felt genuinely forced. The other summoning methods are forced to take that into consideration. MR4 negatively affects the other summoning methods, which is a first. - I think netdecking is fine. If you're going to put all that money into the game, you're going to feel a greater need to win - I feel like the problem isn't hand traps, it's all the situations and cards that make people feel such a need to play hand traps that's a problem. - As a casual player, seeing the prices of some cards is unbelievable. It's one of the main reasons why I don't play competitively. For example, I have a Counter Fairy deck, but no copies of Pot of Extravagance, which everyone keeps telling me to play even after I tell them I'm a budget casual player, because of the price. I just checked TCGPlayer and Extravagance is over $50 for a single copy. So getting just three of both will cost me nearly $200 just for 3 cards. And it can get even worse for actually competitive decks. - Like I mentioned in my last point, I'm a casual player and the price is one of my main issues. I don't have enough disposable income to consistently pay a lot of money for competitive play. Yugioh is just something I want to play for fun and it's how I bonded with my closest friends, and paying so much would just add extra pressure on me to win and I would have less fun. And another turn off is the amount of competitive elitists I've come across, who value cards and decks entirely on how they do competitively and seem to play purely to win instead of just enjoying a game.
exactly it forces other decks to run certain cards(link monsters) in their extra deck. konami has always banned cards that are a must in every deck aka monster reborn(for years because it was a staple) heavy storm dark hole raigeki etc but now link monsters have become that exact same staple except only for extra decks since then ive been playing monarchs since i can play without an extra deck fuck mr4
I say that Pendulums should have only been allowed to Pendulum Summoned from you hand, not your Extra Deck and hand. It's one or the other it should be.
the game needs to grow and limiting expansion is a sure fire way to do it also every new anime needs a new ace card for the hero and a sure fire way to standout is a new summon.
@@skycap3081 What do you think every protagonist has for an ace,"Dark Magician." No. Yugi had Dark Magician. Jaden had Elemental HERO Neos and the Neos Fusions (was Elemental HERO Flame Wingman which was a Fusion until Season two when Elemental HERO Neos came in.) Yusei had a Synchro called Stardust Dragon. Yuma had a Xzy called Number 39: Utopia. Yuya had a Pendulum called Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Yusaki has a Link Monster called Firewall Dragon. 2 times Dragons has been used. 2 Times Warriors have been used. 1 time for a Cyberse to be used (yes Firewall Dragon is a Cyberse monster, don't believe me, look him up and find his type). 1 time Spellcaster was used. The anime has been on the standing ground of improving on the Summonings by focusing on that major summoning. So you might need to get your facts checked. DM (Duel Monsters) Focused on Effects, GX focused on Fusion, 5Ds on Synchros, Zexal on Xyz, Arc-V on Pendulums and VRAINS on Links.
@@CommanderZer I am saying every time they do a new series since after gx they add a new summon and a new protagonist 2500 attack boss monster of that summon from stardust to firewall dragon that's the point I was making.
@@skycap3081 And it's tradition for that. Same with the rival having a monster that has 3000 ATK monster. Seto had Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Chazz had Armed Dragon LV10, Kite had Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, Sylvio had Mayosenju Daibak and Revolver has Borreload Dragon. Traditions need to be passed down.
The other night I taught my little brother how to play the pokemon trading card game and he learnt it in under half an hour. I wouldn't even know where to start if I tried to teach him how to play yugioh! I feel like it should be like chess, no one has changed how chess is played and that game has been around for hundred of years. Keep new cards coming out but should really slow down on how my they change the game play
1: Master Rule 4 has been good, plenty of support for older archtypes with links, columns are neat if you like strategy, not even remotely as bad as pendulums imo (Firewall not included) 2: Net-decking should be like a recipe, use it as a base and make a good cake, only follow the recipe to the letter like some holy scripture and I might as well go to the fucking cake shop. 3: Handtraps are good in moderation but they are not in moderation. There is a reason I don't want Maxxx C back, Maxx C into Phantazmay into Effect Veiler, Ghost Ogre and Ash Blossom! Might sound over the top but let's be real here, if you're playing stun you can just sub a lot of these with stuff like Red Reboot and Evenly Matched. At this point there is a handtrap to everything. 4: Read Above about my feelings on Maxxx C 5: Not a competitive player so take my opinion with a mountain of salt. Yes, it is pay to win unless you find some lost holy grail deck idea from eras ago but you still need some kind of skill to run a top tier deck (mostly). Some part of me tossed the idea of an actual tier system for competitive play to not make it feel like playing the same to decks per format but I have no idea how that would work. 6: I play this game for fun, I also play to collect, however everyone should play for their own reason. Fuck spending hundreds on a deck and treating it like we are in a world war though in my opinion. In my experience there are far more toxic games but we still have that problem here, competitive Yu-Gi-Oh kinda scares me for those reasons.
"plenty support for older archtypes" which are still unplayable due to power creep. Why everytime this subject comes up?? i mean even IF harpies now have support they get wrecked by the current meta where they build up boards with several negates. I mean the basic idea was great -> limited the abuse of extra deck BUT nothing changed since you can uplink and stuff. It would be great if more cards where available who also gave your opponement a extra monster zone BUt the main problem: every monster now has negate abilities, when you start you can block your opponement from playing at all ... forcing you fit in handtraps in your deck otherwise you loose (so at least 6 slots are reserved for hand traps which EVERYONE has to play) to stop this.
@@heartofjustice6041 I got my sunlight wolves for free at locals and and the rest of cards like ogre, impermanance, dweller aren t a must just bagooska and he s also rlly cheap
I still remember my experience back in early 2009 when I used to play the game more often. We had this one guy who would come to my locals who only played hard meta (Tele-DAD specifically), he'd come in, sit down, shit on the kids (middle schoolers mostly) who were there just for fun. After a few weeks we started having less players come in because of him. Store owner had to eventually ban the guy cuz he was just pure toxic and scaring the kids away. It's honestly guys like him who just drove me out of playing YuGiOh after a while cuz I didn't want to be associated with them.
Links are cancer, but at least Pendulums can use them. I agree with you Paul, I play Pendulum Magicians because I like the pendulum mechanic and the way magicians can generate resources from the extra deck, but I lose pretty regularly because all the guys in the club are better players and get more practice. Nonetheless I still enjoy playing (except against Trickstar, and sometime Sky Striker) because I know I'm a filthy casual and I don't worry about it. The game can be pay-to-win. It does seem like Konami likes making powerful cards Secret Rare only, and then short printing so you have to either buy a lot of product with no guarantee of getting it, or just pay the singles prices. That said I pulled Borreload, Saryuja, and Borrelsword from packs so it can be done. On the other hand, being smart in your core choices, like playing Pendulum Magicians, you can build a decent core deck for only a few dollars, and then pick up extra deck cards as finances allow. PM allow you access to XYZ from 3 to 7 easily, and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite is pretty cheap now (I remember buying a playset back when we could have 3). Zefra Metaltron and Decode Talker are good Link 3s, and Borreload has just been reprinted making it quite cheap too. Harmonizing Magician is the goddess of the Magician deck and can pull out a level 7 through 11 single material plus tuner synchro monster effortlessly. Even the Mythical Beast cards commonly used (Master Cerberus and Jackal King) aren't too bad at the moment and Darkwyrm and Gate Zero are reasonably priced, although Gate Zero seems to be creeping up. You don't have to play bad cards just because you're on a budget, Soulburner gave us common Ash, and Order of the Spellcasters is giving us common Droll and Desires. Reprints mean you can even play Sphere Mode in your side deck for a low buy in. I'd suggest even if on a budget finding $30 for three copies of Spellcasters is good value even if it's just for the reprints. The budget conscious player does have some good options at the moment.
Well said Paul. I’m glad to finally see this type of video. I’ve been around since 2010 and I could never stand the attitudes around me. It’s a whole new level when guys like Farfa make a name for themselves for shit talking players who they see as bad.
I'd love to go to locals and play some fun casual decks or semi-competative decks. Unfortunately my locals is filled with sky strikers and danger thunder dragons and pretty much nothing but meta decks.
My opinions: Links: I think they will be fine when we get more for older archetypes cause alot of old archetypes got even slower and worst because of links plus it slows down fusion decks and xyzs decks alot which is kind of lame imo Creatively vs netdecking: I'm rather indifferent about it but I do hope/wish everyone would try for a bit of both Handtraps: there annoying but you can't get rid of them unless you slow the game down Maxx C: If the bug comes back the dragon should go just so you can't stack them Game price: it's a card game I dont think it should be so expensive but its whatever sense I'm not going to a ycs any time soon not to mention I'm not the one spending money lmao Casual vs competitive: you do you booboo I dont care whatever makes you happy just let people do as they please
@Cbg G Nice strawman buddy, but no. I was saying that if an opinion is stated as a fact, that said statement is false. That math analogy does not even remotely relate to what I said. I was joking about you making a nice strawman, there's no such thing as a nice strawman. I fucking hate strawmen.
Yep for people that think its to expensive quite and find something more affordable. This game only gets expensive when you play high rarity or only meta decks. I like to play fun decks just because its fun.
My short *OPINION* on these: 1. MR4: It helped YGO. Link monsters are fine. If it weren’t for MR4, we’d be dealing with Pendulum, Zoo- I mean Xyz Spam everyday + UCT was OP in MR3😂. I can go on but I’ll leave it at this. 2. Creative vs Net Deck: I believe there is still Creativity in YGO. There’s always something new in every event. Including the best decks, they change through time (ex: flame buffalo and the crusadia guy). 3. Hand Traps: all I can say, if you can’t beat them, join them. I was one of those who hated hand traps. But they’re necessary. 3.5. Maxx “C”: Please come back. Link Spam is annoying. It will put Link climbing in-check. Just bring it @ 3. Everybody has it if it’s @ 3. There’s a lot of easy ways the stop Maxx “C” just people think it’s dumb finding a way. 4. Card Pricing: If there is a stable 3 of for $300, I’m not buying it (ex: Thanos Dragon) but if it’s like a $100 one of, I’ll consider it (I’m looking @ you Borrelsword). 5. Causal vs Competitive: I just play Yugioh. Just like Team APS👍🏼
I think hand traps are a good idea, but I feel that some are too good for having no cost and/or havingfew restrictions. Like Ash, you can negate a pot of desires or any important search card for free. Now if ash required that you discard or banish a card from your hand, I'd think it would be more fair.
I probably agree that links make summoning extra deck more difficult and annoying. Im still new but hearing how the mechanics work, I can see how it will be annoying when I get started considering xyz is my favorite mechanic (I do play Legecy of The Duelist, so I have at least some experience in that area)
I recamend using zoodiacs. It's actually easy to get your xyzs out the grave and back on the board. Combine it with missus radiant and you got a strong deck at your disposal
Card prices wouldn’t matter if cash prizes became a thing. At least then, you could make back the money you spend on your shiny rectangular cardboard. Maybe a $1,000 prize for winning an entire YCS? If your deck cost $500-$700 you’d make profit. Just a suggestion.
LVP1 was pretty busted. The Crystons, Noble Knight, metalfoes links got way too many things on the banlist. LVP2 was pretty balanced imo. I also think Links sort of helped summoning mechanics in the end like T.G.'s, Photon, Cyber Dragon, etc. The previous summoning mechanics didn't really do anything for former ones, and sort of replaced it. Like how cyber dragons are too XYZ based where they used to be fusion. For this deck copying, most of us all will automatically hate it since it can be viewed like plagiarism. But this sort of stuff happens in like college, business, etc, so we have to learn and accept it is reality. I personally enjoy building decks myself rather than having a list everyone uses. But when people are result oriented, creativity is usually thrown out the window. Maxx c can stay banned. A lot of people wanted it banned when it was limited, so I think it starts invading, people will want it banned again. My personal opinion. Money is a very complex issue because people will spend it different ways. Some people will always buy meta decks and use it till the end. Some people buy sealed. Some people buy a wide variety of decks they enjoy. Some people buy Yugioh but will try to sell later on to sustain it. What I hate is the differing ideas. Rarity whores hate low rarity cards, meta players hate non-competitive cards. The people who buy singles and OVER emphasized how they are smarter. People insult others for buying sets like Advent Calendars, Star Packs, Legendary Duelists, then they say they must buy core sets; that crap needs to stop. Some people don't buy core sets because of mega tins. People should not also be told they cannot play a deck because they cannot afford such and such card, when we all know stuff will eventually get reprinted. Spend wisely, sell wisely, trade wisely. Casual vs competitive needs to stop. It makes me angry the salt especially how casuals get from competitive. We all have jobs, school, budgets, different hobbies. Play however it suits you. Travelling to YCS's is not free. My friend spent $400 at Chicago.
Konami: we've got new extra deck monsters, called links Me: ok Konami: ...but, according to new rules, you gotta use them if you want to easily have more than one extra deck monster out at a time. Me: ok :/ Konami: so here's some links you can buy to get started Me: (are these even useable?) Konami: and here's a video on how you can use them. Me: ok... Me: (looks at japanese set filled with many usable link monsters) ooh Konami: and now we're gonna disperse these over the course of many packs and make them the highest rarity they can be! Me: (realizing I might not be able to play at locals anymore) *rage quit*
I did start the game through online deck lists. I didnt want to buy a pre made deck from a store, but didnt know enough to build a deck. So I looked up a decklist for and archetype I liked, melodious. Nowadays my deck has evolved from where it started to have a bit of my own personal flavour, but nowadays that is how all my decks start, modified decklists that will eventually become heavily changed. Though I have yet to actually build a meta deck. Played lyrilusc and melodious, though I really want to get lunalights and windwitch, because that is funny if you know about them from the show
I'm an anime duelist and once my dad was sleeping and I was playing yugioh with my mom and I said "I tribute two monsters to summON MY ULTIMATE WIZARD DARK MAGICIAN!"then my mom yelles at me for screaming.LoL
Honestly, my two favorite and main decks are Link decks: Salamangreat and Cyberse Link. While I didn't like it at first, I think it's necessary now. Link Monsters helped slow down the game just a bit.
When I returned to the game after many years. I picked up three Cyberse Link decks for great draw options, two Kaiba 2017 decks for some added power and 1 2017 Kaiba Mega Tin. I feel like my deck functions better with the draw options. Though, balancing my deck is something I have not figured out yet.
The net-decking argument reminded me of the Sky Striker player who used World Dinowresteling just to search Pankratops was probably one of the most interesting and creative takes on that deck that I've seen
I agree that no cards should be above $20 Just make a 50 card set with only $20+ and make the pack like battle of legends that would give most of the cards a way better price
I do have some decks (in Magic the Gathering) where no card costs more than 20 cent, most far less. That way I can play it without sleeves and I can shock my opponent by riffle shuffling them. Also I carry it with just a rubber band.
About creativity: I'm a Blue-eyes player and far too many people tell me things like "why aren't you using [insert card name] in your deck?", "Why are you using this card?" or even "your deck isn't pure; it will never work", and I've learned that NOBODY has the absolute ultimate secret formula for any deck (or at least Blue-eyes).
I've been playing this game since the day it came out, but I was never on an official tournament. So I never talked to people about some issues (besides the guys I'm playing with) and hearing them here in this video is something I really enjoyed. Have to say that I agree with your opinion on those things. I'm glad that there are people out there loving the game as much as I do
I’m 12 years old and love yu gi oh but a big problem for me is a dont have enough money to buy meta card let alone just stuff to make a deck I think card prices should decrease so is younger player can afford to make decks and have a good time
The only problem I have with link summon is that hurt the fusion or synchro mechanic! Fusion for Jaden and yusei! I get it but it just isn't fun. But I can deal with it.
@@Mulcam29 ah no if you ever play the original elemental hero deck it spam a lot of fusion out. I am talking about the original one not the new one. I am talking about creating character deck man like being able to play yusei deck and spam out lots of synchro without the need for link to open space man!
@@Genesispersonaltransformation I like using character decks too, but it didn't hurt synchros and fusions as much as you'd think. I've been playing since 2002.
@@Mulcam29 you been playing it since a very long time, you must love Yugioh a lot. Yeah but you have to put into new card because of power creep! That why I have to constantly upgrade my deck! It basically buying expensive card to win! Most deck like elementalsaber can't keep up.
@@Genesispersonaltransformation Yea, this card game for a long time weirdly enough made me feel less lonely, but after a while I needed a new game since everyone I knew that played don't play anymore. Then I found Vanguard, another amazing tcg
As for Casual v Competitive: I'm a competitive person, but I also love helping people get into the game and letting them have fun. I love playing the game just to play as well, but winning is a bonus.
My yugioh shop community actually got together and made demo decks for new comers and previous players to let them see how some decks are played now. They are more casual decks but meta sucks anyways so that’s whatever, but we have 5 already. Gouki, Ninja, Zombie, Dinomist, and Dinowrestlers
I have always cringed any time someone says "I just play this game for fun." Because everyone does that. Its a meaningless statement. That hardcore YCS crushing sky strikers player is playing for fun too. Its not that its wrong... its just that it implies that one way to play is "fun" and the other isnt. Its basically a casual player's way of saying youre playing the game wrong, without actually saying that, because they themselves would rebel if someone said that to them.
i'm anti net decking. i'm creative player i take old decks reconstruct them to utilize it's full potential.i have made crystal beast broken in the past by using Zombies Mezuki and zombie master and zombie world. that's creative i did the same with wind-ups added zombie support abused wind up rat. i have beaten sky strikers with my creativity. i'm not saying its bad to net deck this is just my opinion.
When it comes to casual or competitive, I always take this attitude: You should be playing to have fun and win. Ultimately it comes down to your opinion on what fun is, but for me, “Fun” is both players giving it their all in a duel in order to come out on top, while also maintaining a mutual respect between players. I don’t go easy on people, unless they’re brand-spanking new, and I don’t want people to go easy on me either. That’s just how I roll.
I am on the fence with Link monsters. I agree that they have added some problems to the game (10 min turns), however they have also added limits that were needed... such as you can no longer summon multiple XYZ, Fusion, or Synchro unless you have a Link with multiple arrows.... at least it seemed that way at first, we now have combos that can create boards with 3+ negate effects, and it can lock your opponent down, and I have a massive issue with that. Yugioh requires two people to play... Konami has made efforts to curb FTKs, but the same has not been done to curb FTLD's (First Turn Lock downs). I don't play meta, however it did try it for one tourney and my Links allowed me to create a lock down board on my first turn, my opponent could not do much and thus scooped... this did not feel very good and I have not played the deck since. But that is just me.
I'm an old school player but stopped playing before even Synchros were a thing. Then I returned to play YGO when Links were new. It took me a while before I understood each summoning mechanics, but Links took me a little longer to actually learn to use them. Once I learned to use links the seem to me a really cool but complex feature (not as complex as Pendulums though).
I main a blue eyes chaos max dragon deck and I feel like so many people give other people sh*t for playing meta decks but also for play decks like chaos max dragon because it cant keep up with the meta? LIke wtf are these double standarts, play what you want and let other people play what they want. YuGiOh is a GAME so enjoy it and let other people enjoy it aswell.
I understand in a way why some cards are "short print", in every game there needs to be a card or mini fig to chase after in a set to sell out the set and make way for the next set/product launch, usually they will have an extremely powerful effect. My issue with "short print" comes up when they "short print" legacy support cards that competitive players won't be chasing down as they have no real relevance in the current game state and probably won't in the foreseeable future, let alone the fact that these cards will probably not get reprints as a lot of reprints are of cards that are meta relevant or utility cards that support a deck type currently fairing well competitively and have not had a print in some time.
Links are fine... WHEN you get use to them but if you are just returning to the game your much more limited if you don't know how a link works And when it comes to creativity vs net decking, I normally just look up the deck try it and make changes to adapt to my play style, its really just about what is your own play style when it comes to the debate
I was against it at first, just like I was with Pendulums. That being said,I love that Link monsters resurrect older decks. This game is pay to win. Even the "inexpensive/budget" Salamangreat is a $250+ deck, and that's without Thanos; the price if you you're looking to win.
I can’t afford the cards so I just play duel links on my phone, plus it has all the old cards from the show which I prefer and best of all it’s free 😁👍
Yugioh is to play and have fun as you play. How the duelist decides to play their decks and build them is up to them, If someone needs help and are new or are a creative block on building a deck means they can have help by net decking. Its up to them, Ive been playing since yugioh started and again I see it for fun. And how you build your deck and what you use if its links or hand traps or play in competitive. Its fun for them.
I love playing Yu-Gi-Oh but all of my friends and people i know are thinking that its embarrassing. And there are no regionals or something like that in my region. Not even a cardshop. Sad life. :(
@Team APS, hey I just wanted to say I been watching your videos for over a year and I just got back into the game and I am really enjoying it. I would also like to throw in a little tid bit about the casual vs competitive styles of play. I used to play competitive vanguard and force of will, and I would always encounter a group of people that were on a budget, like food stamps and SSI kind of budget. This group would always come into these events like a Thursday tournament for Force of Will, or a tournament I ran for Cardfight, and complain about other players for having good decks. And the irony was most of these decks that were destroying them were not that expensive to make, but its life not many people can afford to pay out for good cards, but they still want to play competitive. Now my opinion on this is if you are willing to sign up for any kind of tournament while using a casual deck and complain cause you got stomped on maybe should stick to playing with friends. Im not trying to be mean but complaining that you didn't win because others were better prepared or you knew well in advance you might not do well shows poor sportsmanship.
Very good discussion topics, I feel if more people displayed at least the amount of mutual respect shown here the game wouldn't be seen as toxic, it's fine to have differing opinions but when you act like children and can't come to a compromise and realize people can think differently and still enjoy the game that's where most of the problems the Yu-Gi-Oh community have stem from and if the community actually cooperated more within itself some of these issues could even go away. Overall tho great video
I actually agree with everything you just said. I haven’t made my way to any major events but i have been to locals and i play casuals alot with my friends.
I Think A Good Tip For New Players On How To Get Started Is To 1.Buy A Starter Deck And A Few Booster Packs (That's What They Exist For,After All) 2. Figure Out What Kind If Deck You Want To Run Based On Your Play Style (For Example: I'm A Total Bruit So My Play Style Is Beatdown. Turns Out Kaiba Shares The Same Style.XD) And 3. Put Cards You Like That Also Adhere To Your Play Style Into A Small,20-40 Card Pile And Bam! You Got Yourself A Deck. After That,It's Up To You What You Want To Do With It (The Best Thing For Newbies Would Be To Have A Friend Help You Test Your New Deck Out To See If It Works And Let You Get Used To It All In A More Friendly Way They You Would If You Were To Try It With Strangers At The Local Shop).Just Watch Out For Booster Pack Addiction,Cause I Have It And It's A Bitch.XD
My issue with Link summoning, is that some types don’t have a link monster to help their decks so they suffer. Like Heroes before Legendary Heroes decks came out, they suffered because they couldn’t do anything, and same for generic Dinosaurs, they got one link monster and it kinda sucks.
I feel that netdecking is fine, but I also feel that deck building is a skill that's worth learning. Learning what goes into making a deck can elevate you as a player, I think. I don't like hand traps, though. Not just because they're everywhere now, but because they're a band-aid to the bigger problem that is power creep, board spam and overall game speed.
Links: Eh, it's a mixed bag in my opinion. I wish I could just play my old Synchron deck as it was w/o Links but, on the other hand, some of my new favorite decks use Links to great effect and I can appreciate what the mechanic did to spice up the game. Creative VS Netdecking: Can't do both? Hell, what I like to do when trying out a new archetype is see what other people are running, test out their builds and then adjust them to what I'm more comfortable with later, which sometimes involves throwing in a card I think could be, if not good, at least interesting in said deck. I also like making my own, fan made structure decks. I think both are fine. Handtraps: I'm in the same boat. It also helps that they've kinda become more affordable overtime, slow as it is. Budget VS Expensive: I'm a budget player kinda because I have to be. : P But people are free to spend as much as they damn well please. That said, I don't think anyone's said, "This really good card is only $5? But I wanted to spend $150 on three of them!" Casual VS Competitive: Yeeeah same. You do you, just don't be a dick about it.
The only time I’ve ever consistently had fun at an event was when I went to a regional, the only locals I have time to go to is dominated by people who will only play top tier meta decks (I assume to “practice” for regions and other big events) so much so that they actually seemed to scare away people who play casually there. However, when I went to the regional, I had to play people “at my skill level” because of how match making worked, so I could actually have a back and forth game where both players could have fun and feel like their choices mattered to the actual outcome of the match as opposed to “shit, I didn’t negate that one thing, I’m definitely gonna lose now” which has been a lot of my experience in meta match ups against my definitely casual deck
this is why things are gone too far: people in comment sections claims that lgs are a chill place where you can play even with non meta decks...THEY ARE NOT. EVERY lgs i went wast dominated by people with tier 1/0 decks and scare away everyone, that's why they are so few playing there...
Super good discussion, dude. I think the only thing I might disagree on is Links and Handtraps. I like Links and generally how they function. I think the ladder climbing effect that you can't really do with any other summon type (except maybe Synchro) is interesting, and the zone placement is a really unique side to this game. This said, I get why others don't like it, and that's totally cool. It really hammered some decks, and to those people, I hope they get some sort of support monster soon, that maybe breathes new life into the deck for this, and coming years. With handtraps, (and I want to extend the discussion to floodgates), I don't think the term "necessary evil" is even really fair. I think with how the game operates now, both are just necessary. It's how you keep interaction in the game, or with floodgates, how you slow your opponent down to your pace so have a chance at dictating the game to a win. I don't see a problem there. There's enough removal, and ways to counteract these cards in the game, further adding to that level of interplay. And I honestly like it. But yeah, almost everything else I agree with. Although it'd be impossible to get *everyone* to not spend bank on cards, but yeah. Would be nice if they were cheaper. ;3
My problem with MR4 is three-fold, 1) I don’t like how, like he mentioned, MR4 basically said “hey you know all those decks you used to like to play? Well unless you don’t use the extra deck you need links in order to play them”. Every other summoning mechanic, when introduced, still allowed you to just ignore them and play the game like before with no interfereance. But now if you want to do that you have to literally play an older format. 2) I don’t like how generic link monsters are. I don’t like that a win condition for some decks is just link spam out a borrel monster (which is easy to do). It just makes every deck just want to naturally be a link spam deck, where link 3 and lower monsters are really just a means to an end rather than actual monsters you want to use. It makes for not a fun variety of decks you can play when every non meta deck just says “here is my link 4, swing for game”. 3) honestly who thought the extra link, a built in game mechanic lock down, was a good idea, and whose idea was it to make knightmares make that board basically unbreakable without kaijus?
The reason why I don’t like links is because what it was made to do didn’t work. The only think it has done is slow down the more casual players but the competitive players can still make 3 extra deck monsters still turn one
I think hand traps basically take away a large portion of normal trap cards, one of the key components to the game. additionally with trap cards is that you can stop them fairly easily, where as hand traps take a very niche selection of cards to counter and takes away valuable resources, making you have to pick between halting hand traps and losing valuable deck spots, or using those spots to improve your deck overall but get negated by hand traps at every turn.
I have couple of thoughts about the game. First, I'm not a fan of hand traps, especially for any casual duels. If the hand traps are used for competitive duels (locals or regional), there should be no problem and reasonable. I do have Effect Veiler once in a while but it's not as competitive card as Ash Blossom. Nevertheless, I don't want to stop opponent's play every single turn. Though I do want to see Maxx C to be at least LIMITED. Second, link monsters are great for their effects. Although, some link monsters (Decode Talker, Borreload Dragon, etc.) have over 2000 ATK, they are only useful for either protecting my other cards or giving me additional zones to special summon more extra deck monsters (XYZ, Synchro, Fusion, etc.). Also, link summoning mechanics are extremely helpful for meta decks - they play consistently most of the time. When players add link monsters for non-meta decks (e.g., Felgrand, Blue-Eyes, Timelords, Dark Magician, etc...), they can't summon them often - rather they are rarely summoned. Yes, link monsters are not bad at all but they require "strategic plans" to figure out which ones to summon and when to summon them. Third, I think there would be no longer "creativity" in the game if players literally copy from deck list on the internet, where they can see the championships' decks. They should use the list as the reference and see if the decks can be incorporated with other cards. For example, Paleozoic and Frogs are common for the players to mimic. The deck is fun to play but there's no creativity from other players. One day, I actually faced that deck with my Felgrand deck. The Paleozoic/Frog deck gave me a hard time because the pace was so fast that I couldn't catch up with its gameplay. I didn't complain but I thought to myself, "wait, I've seen this deck before...OH! This guy made his as EXACTLY what the champion's deck had!" To me, that means the players start giving up on the originality and theme of the decks. I'm still experimenting my Lair of Darkness and see if I can do better with it. Lastly, buying Yugioh cards are expensive. However, not all cards are extremely expensive. The problem is that certain cards are expensive and do not apply well to any decks. For example, players can add 3 copies of Ash Blossom to Krawlers, Ancient Gears, Elemental Heroes, and so on, because they are powerful and useful card against their opponent. Another example is Linkuriboh, because it mainly requires LEVEL 1 monsters to use its effects. Players used Linkuriboh for World Chalice deck, because they had W.C. Guardragon and Mystical Shine Ball for link summoning. However, Linkuriboh would not be useful to ALL the decks. I my opinion, the cards should be pricey but reasonable because of their effectiveness and usefulness, IF they are broadly used for ANY decks. These are my thoughts on Yugioh in general. Hope these are not offensive and not taken too seriously. But I think Konami should consider adjusting price on most of Yugioh cards. Thanks Team APS!
Originality for Yugioh is hard in my opinion because of how long it takes to make a deck by yourself. And some people (like me) don't have that kind of patience for it. And also. It's really hard to imagine how the cards would work together and when making a deck. You always want to keep adding and adding but you have to limit yourself to set cards.
Just a suggestion to people that don't like MR4... try Kozmo. it's not reliant on the extra deck and has really good match ups to a lot of decks including Sky Strikers! Plus Kozmojo is the most expensive card in the deck at $15. it's a ton of fun for not a ton of money. and lets be real... Who doesn't enjoy dumping giant... untargetable... self-replacing.. 3000 atk otk machines? literal machines too! love when the pun is crazy accurate!
I hated links at first, but honestly, after trying them out, they arent that bad, some are even pretty fun. I thought the same thing about pendulums though, so maybe I'm just slow to adopt new ideas
I've been saying since the beginning of master rule 4 that after the link era is over Konami will most likely change the extra monster zone mechanic (extra deck summons to linked zones and such) so it will only involve link monsters So only link monsters can be summoned in the extra monster zone and other extra monsters can be summoned like master rule 3
what's the point of link monsters after that? link were made only to prevent synchro spam, if they change the rule like you said theyll become basically useless
Have you guys ever thought about doing a Team APS tournament? Seems like you have a big enough group to do something fun. Could either do multiple videos with each game shown, or 1 long video where you show highlights of each game/do a short summary of what happened with some clips added here and there. I got back into yugioh a few weeks ago after not playing for a decade. Had been playing mtg for a while, and got into that by watching The Command Zone yt channels series called Game Knights where they did something similar and it hooked me. Would be cool to see something similar in the yugitube world.
My problem with Links is that they should have made them a different colour, we already had blue cards. Red would have been nice.
Color theory suggests otherwise tho and companies pay attention to that kinda shit
@@berlinglasgow4942 Care to be just a bit more specific? Color theory says a lot of things, not all of which are true _or_ good ideas to implement.
We already have a red card.
The unplayable Slifer card.
Who cares if you play casual or competitive Yu-Gi-Oh. It's all about having fun and enjoying the game.
Are you out of your mind!? Fun!? That's crazy!?
Wat. I always have fun furing a good game even if I lose. Why even bother otherwise.

About Casual and Comp players. I have a friend in discord who said something that I do quite agree on in regards to this, here's what he said:
I believe there's 4 types of players in this game. Most people say its only casual players or competitive players but in my opinion there's 4 types.
1- the meta tryhard - the guy that only runs meta and calls any player nub if he isnt running a meta deck. Usually just knows how to play 1 meta deck and is clueless about anything that isnt meta.
2- pro competitive player - plays mainly meta but has a deep knowledge of the game and usually knows how to play multiple decks including rogues and for fun decks
3- rogue player - a dude that tries to make a rogue deck as competitive as possible. Usually knows how to play meta but chooses to run rogue and optimise the build in order to beat meta.
4- casual player - a guy that doesnt know or doesnt even touch meta. Just runs for fun decks and usually is out of competitive scenerio.
I'm the rogue because I don't like pay to win
Ya I'm not casual but not competitive I'm definitely 3
I fit into your second category.
This is what is called the "Dueling Elite" in my circle of friends!
I’m 4 since i have no clue about the meta except for what my friend tells me
@@rj8563
META just means "most effective tactics available".
Any card you own that seems to kick butt no matter what is probably a "meta" card.
My problem with master rule 4 is it hurts non link based decks and forces all decks to play with link monsters
I understand, I think for master rule 5 Konami could just make the arrows of links ONLY apply to other links
Michael Clarke konami should hire you 😂
You see, as a casual player who only plays with his friends I am, I have only one Link monster and I always ignore it. I just go and do a Synchro or an Xyz. Also, if I summon Extra Deck monster from the graveyard they go to the Main Monster Zone being there a Link or not, so I don't care.
Hoochie Face? 😂 thanks

Here is my opinion:
If you can’t afford the better cards just play with what you got, already
I personally think that you should play a deck you like AND add staples to it to make it good enough so that even if your opponent plays meta, you can still duel while having fun.

@@brianaguilar8283 that is correct. I however like control decks. Control can play stun and floodgates. What I mean by control is spellbook and sky striker .
@@Alphion I play for fun, love coming up with new strategies that do well competitive wise. Rouge decks with a twist
I don't like them not having a defense position however nor do I like the laddering
This seemingly new trend of them in structure decks is great (Duel Power helped a lot as well)
If you're going to put all that money into the game, you're going to feel a greater need to win
- I feel like the problem isn't hand traps, it's all the situations and cards that make people feel such a need to play hand traps that's a problem.
I feel if it wasn't for Pendulum we wouldn't need Links...
Me personally, mechanics should've stopped at XYZ.

1: Master Rule 4 has been good, plenty of support for older archtypes with links, columns are neat if you like strategy, not even remotely as bad as pendulums imo (Firewall not included)
2: Net-decking should be like a recipe, use it as a base and make a good cake, only follow the recipe to the letter like some holy scripture and I might as well go to the fucking cake shop.
4: Read Above about my feelings on Maxxx C
5: Not a competitive player so take my opinion with a mountain of salt.
It would be great if more cards where available who also gave your opponement a extra monster zone
BUt the main problem: every monster now has negate abilities, when you start you can block your opponement from playing at all ... forcing you fit in handtraps in your deck otherwise you loose (so at least 6 slots are reserved for hand traps which EVERYONE has to play) to stop this.
salamangreat deck is 30 euros and counts as best deck, like blue eyes or remember lightsworns or dino?

I still remember my experience back in early 2009 when I used to play the game more often. We had this one guy who would come to my locals who only played hard meta (Tele-DAD specifically), he'd come in, sit down, shit on the kids (middle schoolers mostly) who were there just for fun. After a few weeks we started having less players come in because of him. Store owner had to eventually ban the guy cuz he was just pure toxic and scaring the kids away. It's honestly guys like him who just drove me out of playing YuGiOh after a while cuz I didn't want to be associated with them.
My area had the same issue except he wasn’t banned and this guy would put himself into debt to be good at the game.
I mean as a competitive person I wouldn't even want to be in a situation where I'm not getting good practice and they're not having fun
What I don’t like about net decking is most people copy the deck without knowing why certain cards are in the deck
Okay, that is not netdecking. Netdecking is experimenting with the cards. Full netdecking is not knowing any amount of the cards of what they do.
When on budget play Speed Duels and boost that format locally and for convention events at all levels.

Links: I think they will be fine when we get more for older archetypes cause alot of old archetypes got even slower and worst because of links plus it slows down fusion decks and xyzs decks alot which is kind of lame imo
Creatively vs netdecking: I'm rather indifferent about it but I do hope/wish everyone would try for a bit of both
Handtraps: there annoying but you can't get rid of them unless you slow the game down
Maxx C: If the bug comes back the dragon should go just so you can't stack them
Game price: it's a card game I dont think it should be so expensive but its whatever sense I'm not going to a ycs any time soon not to mention I'm not the one spending money lmao
Casual vs competitive: you do you booboo I dont care whatever makes you happy just let people do as they please
Both the bug and the dragon are together in Asia. Thank God this is TCG...

I like to play fun decks just because its fun.
anything over $20 is already expensive for a couple of shiny cardboards.
I'm glad you've made this video. Its good these issues and comments are discussed in a very frank matter. With that, I thank you.
My short *OPINION* on these:
Alot of the current day and future structure decks are very complete and very cheap to make and to be competitive and budget friendly.

Jacob Dodson I’ll look em up, thanks!
"Are you a casual filthy scrub " Paul please dont come for me like that :(
Card prices wouldn’t matter if cash prizes became a thing. At least then, you could make back the money you spend on your shiny rectangular cardboard. Maybe a $1,000 prize for winning an entire YCS? If your deck cost $500-$700 you’d make profit.
Just a suggestion.
Cash prizes would be nice but we all know that Konami is cheap.
Well the prizes from winning events like YCS' can be sold for thousands to collectors
Molds most people wouldn’t want to sell a card they’ll probably never see again.
Konami: we've got new extra deck monsters, called links
Me: ok
Konami: ...but, according to new rules, you gotta use them if you want to easily have more than one extra deck monster out at a time.
Me: ok :/
Konami: so here's some links you can buy to get started
Me: (are these even useable?)
Konami: and here's a video on how you can use them.
Me: ok...
Me: (looks at japanese set filled with many usable link monsters) ooh
Konami: and now we're gonna disperse these over the course of many packs and make them the highest rarity they can be!
Me: (realizing I might not be able to play at locals anymore) *rage quit*
I think the extra monster zone should only apply to links and this way it won't affect synchros, fusions and xyzs.
Then link arrows dont make sense and people will just xyz spam again
@@gamersreactions9267 Link arrows can be used to summon other link monsters
But in order to do that, they have to change the Pendulum rule so you can't Pendulum Summon from the Extra Deck. But we all know Konami won't do that.
I like link mechanics, BUT the problem is that you NEED links, and it covers up a lot of space in the deck I could use on something else
The net-decking argument reminded me of the Sky Striker player who used World Dinowresteling just to search Pankratops was probably one of the most interesting and creative takes on that deck that I've seen
Link Monsters were supposed to slow the game down. They don't do that at all.
NOphion Trollbringer this is all in the plan
They do the opposite speed the game up lol.
Thanks a lot for a great video Paul! You raise a lot of good points. Sorry my comment was over several comments lol.
I agree that no cards should be above $20
Just make a 50 card set with only $20+ and make the pack like battle of legends that would give most of the cards a way better price

As for Casual v Competitive:
I'm a competitive person, but I also love helping people get into the game and letting them have fun.
I have always cringed any time someone says "I just play this game for fun."
Because everyone does that.
Second point go look up a deck(net deck), then when you play with that deck you change it to your style. And creativity has never died
Same
We are waiting for the duel between galaxy eyes and blue eyes! nice vid btw. ;)
Coming back to this video and the change to the format do links are optional i feel they have become more fun
WHEN you get use to them but if you are just returning to the game your much more limited if you don't know how a link works
And when it comes to creativity vs net decking, I normally just look up the deck try it and make changes to adapt to my play style, its really just about what is your own play style when it comes to the debate
I like this format of a video, much better since i can hear you well
Great video. Definitely something a new player should watch. Much needed discussion.
I love playing Yu-Gi-Oh but all of my friends and people i know are thinking that its

Came here to see the comments expecting some savage stuff, not sure if I’m disappointed or happy that they actually seem pretty tame! Great title 😂
i still remember people saying that links will slow the game down, also they print more and more link monsters that summon from the deck
I'm new to Yu-Gi-Oh and i actually enjoy playing with link monster's
But I wanted to spend $150 on three of them!"
Casual VS Competitive: Yeeeah same.
"I'm actually going to give my opinions on these."
Ah. I look forward to finding out which of your opinions I should unsubscribe for.
thats so me
Super good discussion, dude.
Would be nice if they were cheaper. ;3
My problem with MR4 is three-fold,
1) I don’t like how, like he mentioned, MR4 basically said “hey you know all those decks you used to like to play?

The solution should be to limit the number of link monsters u can have in a deck. Like only being allowed to have 3 total instead of 10-15.
Here’s the one I hear the most from casuals on expensive cards. “It’s just cardboard!, why would I spend 20 dollars on a piece of paper?” 🙄
Or a 40 buck card for mtg. And when you need a full set(4) you're gonna spend 160 luckily
Well if you want to get technical that $20 bill you stole from your parent's wallet to buy the Yu-gi-oh card is also a piece of paper
I've been saying since the beginning of master rule 4 that after the link era is over
Konami will most likely change the extra monster zone mechanic (extra deck summons to linked zones and such) so it will only involve link monsters
So only link monsters can be summoned in the extra monster zone and other extra monsters can be summoned like master rule 3
what's the point of link monsters after that? link were made only to prevent synchro spam, if they change the rule like you said theyll become basically useless
