This is great advice. I'd like to add to it... I'm an experienced stage actor and have worked as an acting coach. I suppose I'm blessed with the ability to quickly pick up accents. (I've convinced native speakers that my accent is authentic...until they start talking about specifics of their hometown/region, at which point I have to tell them I'm practicing the accent. They usually take it well.) When people ask me how I do this I explain it to them this this way: An accent is not a mask you place over your voice. It's a mask you put into your mind. In other words, you must think in that accent. It must become your own internal voice, attitude and thought process while your using it. Doing this will help to alleviate the difficulties in the "translation" from your native accent to your desired accent. Hope this helps.
