I am worried about the future of physical collecting games. I am a person who likes to own my games, and I feel more and more every day that they are trying to phase out physical games and movies.😊
Yes its very true, but i found some hope, for the gaming industry anyway. As long as nintendo don't release a "digital" and "physical" version separately like the Sony and xbox did, it'll cement that at nintendo (an equal player in the trifecta of gaming companies) value physical. I was thinking it's hopeless and gaming is going to "finalise" steering towards all digital. PC is long gone, and sony + Xbox are pushing digital more and more in their own ways (gamepass subscription, ps5 pro only being digital with a physical drive being an "extra") but then I realised that I wasn't thinking about nintendo as a whole, and how they've been progressing I fully realised how much nintendo values physical more than the other 2 from a certain video.
As much as l like Nintendo, they sometimes make very baffling decisions. The completely obvious thing would be for their next console just be a more powerful version of the Switch that's backwards compatible with the existing library (and make available 60 fps patches for some the bigger games like BotW and TotK). That's why I don't think it will happen, it would make too much sense.
@@duckpwnd I feel like this opinion is overdone, most Nintendo consoles are backwards compatible. The only ones that weren’t are the ones that were a complete generation shift like SNES to N64, N64 to GameCube, and WiiU to Switch. And that was mainly because the media of which the games were store changed considerably between them. Nintendo can sometimes be a shitty company, but backwards comparability has been the norm for a long time.
@@moonwalker-t3u The only consoles I can think of that were backwards compatible were wii and wii u though, right? Wii with gamecube compatibility and wii u with wii compatibility. Their handhelds on the other hand have been better generally with this, the switch is kind of a handheld too so...I'm hoping it'll be one that's backward compatible.
Unicorn overlord is an actual must I could not put the game down it's absorbed 40 hours of my time. Loved every moment of it. It never felt like a chore. It's a big recommend. Sometimes Jrpgs take an hour or more before things start to get going. Unicorn Overlord starts right away.
I was always big into RPGs as a kid and teenager and now that I'm 40 I'm trying to get back into them but there are so many lol. Currently going through shin megami tensei vengeance when I'm done with this game I am definitely playing unicorn overlord
Getting a Japanese Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin should also cost about the same amount of money. Good games BTW I just need time to actualy play the firt one.
Thanks for sharing your list Emily. The problem I find with buying so many games is that I don't have time to play them. While I want a number of them, I tend to really just buy 1 game at a time and beat that until I decide to get another one, or getting them when they're on sale.
The real gamer struggle tbh. I like to play retro too and right now im juggling with OG Xbox, Dreamcast and Switch games. Im also playing competitive SSBM (Melee) and own a minecraft server LMAO I have so many games i need to complete
That's always been the case with me, especially right now when I'm on such a tight budget. This month (technically speaking in August, though), I've already bought Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure, and Emio the Smiling Man and yet part of me wants to also get the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection and the Persona 3 Reload DLC. Some of my friends have been wanting me to try out the Bayonetta games as well as Metroid Dread, but I just don't have either money or time to prioritize them.
My advice is not to buy a bunch of games. Buying 20 games on a sale is a worse deal than buying one game at full price, if you never touch the 20 games but you play the one game to completion.
I really enjoy your channel. Not only you have good taste but your content is very soothing. As a small rant of mine, not towards you, in my country it's getting harder and harder to get physical games at an honest price.
I 100% use Amazon wish lists to track games I want to buy or keep an eye on. I even use them for lists of books, tools, gift ideas, etc. but yeah, I vibe with your video completely!
I just picked up the Bayonetta games on Switch. Never played the 3rd one, so that should be cool. I typically only grab games on there that I can't get on PC, but there are some games that I'd like to grab just because it's neat to have them on there, or it's a good collection like some of the Resident Evil stuff, or maybe the Metal Gear Collection. One thing I gotta say about Switch is that it's absolutely amazing that they manged to get SO MANY games on there. Stuff I never thought in a million years would show up on it. It's to the point where if that's all I had access to was a Switch I'd be pretty happy. Really impressive what they've done with it.
Thanks for sharing your list! I tend to gravitate forwards the same genres as you but struggle to know what games to go after and be aware of new releases, but your videos are always so helpful! :)
Came in late to the switch in ‘21 but am pleasantly surprised. Very happy with the indie games and shoot ‘em ups. I think that the fact that the memory cards and games have no moving parts will be good for future preservation and also the fact that there are so many of the consoles in circulation.
The thing that sucks is even if you have the hard copy of the switch games, it still has to connect to the Nintendo servers to download. So… if they shut down the Nintendo shop for whatever else they have down the line then…. You basically have a piece of plastic.
Not exactly true. Games can run without downloading.... But the way it works is that for games that do patches, you have to NOT install the patches when you run the game for the first time. Otherwise, if you do install the patch before you start the game then the patch version data will also be stuck in your system registry. This means that even if you delete the game icon then reinstall it, you will always be forced to install the latest patch or above. The only way to get around that is by doing a system factory reset, wiping out all system memory....Which can also risk erasing your saves if you aren't careful.
I get fomo sometimes. I usually pre-order the collector's edition of my favorite series on day one. Other JRPGs I'll buy them to collect and play them when I get around.
I agree with you on that if I'm a hardcore fan of a series I would get a collective edition. Day one Cause collector's editions are the things that skyrocket. The most.@@Hschlick84

Great video as always Emily! I just decided I wanted to get into some NIS titles (Ys 8-10) and am definitely prioritizing them since they only get more expensive and rare with time 🙃.
I bought Bayonetta Origins when Target put it on clearance a few months ago for, like, 15 dollars. You should check to see if they still have copies at your local store!
Esp when it comes to JRPGs, Suruga-ya ( the Japanese chain of 2nd hand shops ) has been doing free international shipping promos most weekends so far this year. Some games are used/ like new. Some are marked as used/ like new but arrive new and sealed ( because if they didn't get it straight from the publisher, then it's used even when it's sealed. ) As an example, you have Dragon Quest Treasures on your 2nd Amazon list and Amazon's price was $55.03. I snagged 2 copies from Suruga-ya last week for 1300 yen (~$8) each and that Japanese release includes full English including voice over. That's not even getting into the dozens of games which only have physical in Japan but that release includes full English.
Great video! I definitely do a similar thing for sure and try and gage if something is going to be rare or not, or even the likelihood of it going on sale. Great tips!
I just sat down and made a list of games I want to get for the rest of the year yesterday too. It was more than I thought it would be! I know it doesn't come out this year but that Oath in Felghana port shot up the list of my most wanted games!
Wonderful video thanks for the upload and thoughts❤ I’ve purchased 110 games for the switch sense 2017. However I currently only have 40 of them, I have traded and sold the rest so I can continue to collect the games I enjoy am interested in and want to play. I have Learned the hard way over the years to not get caught up in the hype or to buy games just because others feel it’s a must own😩 it’s also the most difficult lesson to take to heart. Buy games because you find them fun and enjoyable not because others do🏴☠️
One game I spotted on your list that I would always advocate for is “Spirit of the North”. I fell in love with its simple but moving story, gorgeous soundtrack and wonderful visuals. It also has one of the most beautiful endings I’ve seen in a game. The only downside and its a big one is the controller throwingly frustrating controls. Its a sign of how much I loved the game that I finished it in spite of them. It’s great, but be warned 😄.
Me chuckling to myself at you dismissing the Saviors of Sapphire Wings/Stranger of Sword City reprint from VGP knowing that I did order that from them - there was a separate game they had in stock on sale at the time and I figured "Eh, the two combined get me the free shipping threshold so fine." I can say my highest priority upcoming game is the Ace Attorney Miles Edgeworth Collection - the second game in the collection, having never before released outside Japan, is the only Ace Attorney game I have never played. Yes, I know of the fan translation and have watched Let's Plays of it, but I wanted an official release and finally getting it after waiting 13 years.
one of my favorite games on the switch right now is quake, its so fun and i love the portability. i doubt it will rise in price though and you can get it on other consoles
Great video! You read my mind Emily, I've recently been refining my Switch wishlist into categories to help me prioritize: Rare/Indie Games Nintendo Software Low piority games Pre-orders/ Announced games Hopefully there will be some decent sales/deals coming up this year 🙂
Unfortunately I got into the habit of wanting to collect jrpgs not necessarily to play them but just to collect them. Sure I want to play all of them at some point but now I'm just into collecting all jrpgs not only on the Nintendo switch but other consoles as well 😕
I'm honestly shocked since almost every game on your list is either something I currently own, or something on my current want list. I guess we both have great taste in games. 😁
As someone who played Metroid on the Cube and Wii they are great games if you like action but also reading/world building because you can scan everything and it will give you lore galore.
I played that game since day one it came out and I was praying that they do a physical copy it is way too good and with part 2 coming up I would not be surprised if it's an uncommon pickup
The insight on console life cycles and how historically things have looked for physical games is super helpful thank you! Ever since the whole 3DS eshop situation I’ve been on this whole collecting game journey for JRPGs and other similar game genres you mentioned so I don’t look back and wish I got them when they were fairly priced lol but yes always just games I plan to actually plsu
One game I suggest hunting down because it’s already getting expensive is the Megaman X Legacy Collection 2, the Japanese version. It’s a physical game card, while the US version is a physical card with a digital download code for Legeacy collection 2. I managed to get it while it was still cheap-ish, but it’s climbing to like $170 last time I checked. Also I highly suggest pre-ordering the Marvel vs Capcom collection, that’s bound to be a sought after copy as well as people hunting down Switch systems just for that game.
I use the Gameye to maintain my wishlist, and there I created priority tags: from P1 (most wanted) to P5 (less wanted). And for each game I add a few comments like its regular price in the various markets etc
I like how organized you are with your collecting. Amazon is great for collecting lists. ATM I have too many games and need to be more selective on my collecting because space is an issue. For Switch 2 I would really like to tone down on the games I get.
I appreciate you sharing that list with us, Emily. I really enjoy your videos because I find them so relaxing. Also, you're looking great and I hope you enjoy your weekend. 🙃
great video emily! i definitely need to implement multiple amazon wishlists to organise my games more in priority, somehow i had never considered doing so before so thanks :)
Hello, Emily 😊 Was a little shocked to see your wishlist, 125 games is a lot 😅 I think we grow up playing games, so we know exactly what we enjoy most from our games. It could be different from one to another. That thing can narrow down your list, of course you can add niche titles here and there to try new genre? 😉 Imo, we love collecting things, but it's better to collect things we love 😁 Have a great day, Emily ☀️
For the most part, I already own most of the games I want for the switch. I'm missing very few such Blue Reflection 2 and Tokyo Mirage Session, but it is not a big deal if I won't play them. Now I have so much backlog so I mostly buy other things (hope to find some good plushies next month)
I had preordered the Trails of Reverie Collectors Edition back then on the NISA Store, they ended up cancelling my order which disappointed me. NISA had stated that they didnt have enough in stock, so i was bummed out. From then on i became just find on collecting the standard edition of the trails series.
Great video! Random - where do you primarily play on? (Ps5, pc?) My love for the switch + ps5 combo has rekindled and I’ve been thinking of rebuying games I bought on pc and steam deck on my switch instead. Something about the switch just feels different
The algorithm brought me here, I was enjoying the video, then this opinion of jrpg being a niche thing, I couldn't go on, I believe every month sees one of the authentic ones or two or three in the same vein
Its lovely to have a collection in mind I’ve done the same thing i by do many just to have them and fear of missing out sometimes like there gone there gone or people are naughty and sell them at so high price but I’ve learnt now not to do that anymore play and finish fully if possible even if it takes a 100 years lol 😂 due to job and life circumstances ☺️ hope all went well with the con convention your cosplay was stunning 🤩 thanks for another upload 😀
I’m a bit late to the party when it comes to the Nintendo Switch but I’m planning on getting as many games as I want before it’s too late. Unfortunately, I didn’t do that with the Nintendo 3DS and I’m hoping to learn from that mistake.
Love the YS series both on switch and older consoles. Managed get my hand on a Boxed with manual version of YS 3 for sega genesis for like dirty cheap 20 euros original.
Just like 4 years ago I buyed retro games based on what TH-camrs said to be very rare games, for famicom, super famicom, etc, but this games where crazy expensive and in the end I think it was not worth buying them, I could have played them very easily on a emulator. So I stopped buying retro games and focusing only on actual gen consoles. But anyway, many retro games has made its way to the actual gen console, so that’s very cool, more cheapers and easier to play, like the tomb raider trilogy. So I only buy things I know I will play, so even when they say in the future some game will become super rare, and I don’t like it, I don’t see the point in buying it. Also it is impossible to buy everything I want, so I have a mix of physical and virtual games, my top favorite I buy physical and ones I want to play but don’t care about the physical release I just put in my whislist and wait for a flash sale, this way I saved lots of money and was able to buy everything I wanted so far. And I don’t see the point in buying so many jrpg if I will not play them, I have like 70 of this games I buyed new from the ps2 era, and haven’t played them yet, I don’t have the time to play everything, so no point buying every jrpg. Better to look reviews and gameplay and if I get hooked to the game then is worth buying. And if for some reason I missed I very cool game I had no idea existed, if the physical game is just overpriced, over 70 dollars, no point expending that money, is just better to get the virtual version. But thanks for sharing the list of games.
Nice video as always! I also have a huge list om amazon but sometimes i have to keep my fomo under control 🤭 even there are important differences between norh american end Euro market your advices are always precious 😊
It's odd, Atlus games will go down in price but years later will only go up in value after the system it was on is no longer the one in the generational cycle.
For me im Prioritizing games that I kinda feel will be low or no stock soon, for example Im looking at Xenoblade DE or Astral Chain cause they are pretty high cost here ($80) and it seems like their supply is low in my area. I also want to get Unicorn Overlord since I see it on sale often but im kind of tempted by the higher res for PS5 version, but then again switch 2 will probably have BC with switch games so that on the go and maybe with more performance could be a worthwhile long term investment. For many indies I love the physical availability, but I do prefer to go and get them on GOG, if theres like a REALLY nice bonus in the physical (like how Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has graffiti stickers) then I prioritize the physical.
Do you give consideration to whether a physical game requires a download to play and the impact this might have on longevity if the eshop is removed in future?
just affirm your games most places use affirm that way the can get the games you want and not put out so much at one time. with affirm you pay monthly depending on home much is in your cart you pay 5.00 to 20.00 a month for a hand full of games . of course affirm make % much its not that much if a game cost 60 with affirm is like 65 or 70 you wont evan think about it after purchase and you have the game. im on tight budget and all my games are way beyond that affirm help if you are a collector or just live paycheck to paycheck there is down payment for affirm sometimes they throw no down payment at you.
It's a great idea! I've got a list too that I need to get through. I find on some it's good to wait for prides to go down but ids hard to judge. I would say the Japanese type games and graphic novels seem to go quick though
I have actually been on a ps4, 360, and switch games buying freaking spree!!!! You guys definitely need to get a Alan wake 2 physical, IT WILL be worth money someday
I think there will be Switch games coming out for years to come, same cartridge for both consoles with enhancements for the next ✨ So many new games and remasters would run just fine on the current Switch and I think this library is meant to be eternally definitive!
Just used gameye the other week to get a list and rough cost of all the games I want still or am interested in and it came out to 360 more switch games 😬 gotta figure what to prioritize
It would be nice for physical switch games to FINALLY have decent sales Yes I know the digital ones and some games go on sale occasionally but compared to PS4 game sales that are amazing in price during stuff like black Friday because they know it's the older system games Nintendo rarely does that
I am worried about the future of physical collecting games. I am a person who likes to own my games, and I feel more and more every day that they are trying to phase out physical games and movies.😊

Me chuckling to myself at you dismissing the Saviors of Sapphire Wings/Stranger of Sword City reprint from VGP knowing that I did order that from them - there was a separate game they had in stock on sale at the time and I figured "Eh, the two combined get me the free shipping threshold so fine."
I can say my highest priority upcoming game is the Ace Attorney Miles Edgeworth Collection - the second game in the collection, having never before released outside Japan, is the only Ace Attorney game I have never played.
You read my mind Emily, I've recently been refining my Switch wishlist into categories to help me prioritize:
Rare/Indie Games
Nintendo Software
Low piority games
Pre-orders/ Announced games
Hopefully there will be some decent sales/deals coming up this year 🙂
Unfortunately I got into the habit of wanting to collect jrpgs not necessarily to play them but just to collect them. Sure I want to play all of them at some point but now I'm just into collecting all jrpgs not only on the Nintendo switch but other consoles as well 😕
i absolutely LOVE these videos! gives me inspiration entirely. Thank you again!
I'm honestly shocked since almost every game on your list is either something I currently own, or something on my current want list. I guess we both have great taste in games. 😁
As someone who played Metroid on the Cube and Wii they are great games if you like action but also reading/world building because you can scan everything and it will give you lore galore.
One big prediction: Hades. It's more and more difficult to get it from shop directly. And people tend to hold onto it because of the replayability.
I played that game since day one it came out and I was praying that they do a physical copy it is way too good and with part 2 coming up I would not be surprised if it's an uncommon pickup
I still need to get every legend of heroes game on the switch
I also have become selective. I used to buy also cheaper games, which were not top priority, but nowadays I try to buy games that I play later.
Also, unicorn overlord has been $30 often this past month.
You missed overlord They had it at Best Buy they had a Best Buy sale for $30 the other day. That is when I picked it up.
I love limited run games when ever I want to buy a physical copy of a digital title 😊
I used to buy from their company but the downside is the wait time especially if you order a collector's edition you're going to be waiting forever.
I'm guilty of double dipping for Falcom too 😅
I bought YS 8 five times 😂
Great list. I was lucky enough to find a good list of games for discount in January. Should do the same when it comes to a wish list
Hi emily 👋
I have multiple wishlists. I use deku deals and i made a list for current games, future games, and no release date games.
I'm grateful to you for making fun videos.✨️
You should definitely get OPUS: Echo of Starsong. It shouldn't take too long to complete, and you'll love it! :)
Fantasion Neo Direction looks really good. It was stuck on the Apple store, I think, but is coming to the Switch.
7:10 damn, would have love to hear why you picked these games. But great video!
Star Ocean Second Story R is definitely worth scooping up asap ❤❤
I had preordered the Trails of Reverie Collectors Edition back then on the NISA Store, they ended up cancelling my order which disappointed me. NISA had stated that they didnt have enough in stock, so i was bummed out. From then on i became just find on collecting the standard edition of the trails series.
Since you referenced Trails from Daybreak, preorders for Daybreak 2 are live on the NIS America store..
Great video!
Random - where do you primarily play on? (Ps5, pc?)
My love for the switch + ps5 combo has rekindled and I’ve been thinking of rebuying games I bought on pc and steam deck on my switch instead.
Something about the switch just feels different
Great Video! I like displays in the background.
The algorithm brought me here, I was enjoying the video, then this opinion of jrpg being a niche thing, I couldn't go on, I believe every month sees one of the authentic ones or two or three in the same vein
We have so many of the same games on our radars, I like your way of thinking! ;)
Not sure if its still everywhere, but Live a Live Switch was $15 on clearance at Target not long ago.
Also Walmart has great game deals too. I got a copy of Xenoblade 3 for $20 back in February
This is super smart. Every new generation I regret getting certain games when I had a chance 😅
Unicorn Overlord is so good! I went ahead and bought the collectors edition and was really happy with it
Its lovely to have a collection in mind I’ve done the same thing i by do many just to have them and fear of missing out sometimes like there gone there gone or people are naughty and sell them at so high price but I’ve learnt now not to do that anymore play and finish fully if possible even if it takes a 100 years lol 😂 due to job and life circumstances ☺️ hope all went well with the con convention your cosplay was stunning 🤩 thanks for another upload 😀
First time seeing one of your videos, very nice. Will keep an eye out for future ones..🤗
Thank you for sharing your insights here!
Nice video as always! I also have a huge list om amazon but sometimes i have to keep my fomo under control 🤭 even there are important differences between norh american end Euro market your advices are always precious 😊
Good call out for considering publisher printing habits, I’ve definitely been stuck in limited print FOMO more than I’d like to admit. 😂
It's odd, Atlus games will go down in price but years later will only go up in value after the system it was on is no longer the one in the generational cycle.
Yeah when the 3DS was shut down practically every Atlus title skyrocketed
Bayonetta origins was such an underrated game and FFTR FBL is a must own
Do you give consideration to whether a physical game requires a download to play and the impact this might have on longevity if the eshop is removed in future?
Which is better getting the games all digital or all physical
Depends on if you want to own your games in the future
A lot of good games on your list 😊. I'm excited about epic Mickey rebrushed.
Me too 😊
I added a few games from you list I lost track of or forgotten about them! 😊
just affirm your games most places use affirm that way the can get the games you want and not put out so much at one time. with affirm you pay monthly depending on home much is in your cart you pay 5.00 to 20.00 a month for a hand full of games . of course affirm make % much its not that much if a game cost 60 with affirm is like 65 or 70 you wont evan think about it after purchase and you have the game. im on tight budget and all my games are way beyond that affirm help if you are a collector or just live paycheck to paycheck there is down payment for affirm sometimes they throw no down payment at you.
Touch Detective 3 you might want to grab sooner rather than later. I notice it keeps going out of stock fast.
I think there will be Switch games coming out for years to come, same cartridge for both consoles with enhancements for the next ✨
So many new games and remasters would run just fine on the current Switch and I think this library is meant to be eternally definitive!
Just used gameye the other week to get a list and rough cost of all the games I want still or am interested in and it came out to 360 more switch games 😬 gotta figure what to prioritize
Wow. We collect the same type of games. Nice to see someone collecting niche games.
Your wish list on Amazon looks like mine😂😂😂
Can you please make a video about your top 10 favorite anime?
It would be nice for physical switch games to FINALLY have decent sales
Yes I know the digital ones and some games go on sale occasionally but compared to PS4 game sales that are amazing in price during stuff like black Friday because they know it's the older system games
Nintendo rarely does that
