    The fact they keep these stones intact, in urban settings...awesome.

      Hard to see once you get away from Europe unfortunately, but it's really cool to see them! It's such a tangible piece of history. Like, someone actually carved this a thousand years ago right here.

      @@ThreeStarVagabond thank you! Could you please help me with something - are there any animal farms, sight of any farm animals when you go to Sigtuna if you walk around the town and it’s outskirts (but not far from the town itself)? I can’t stand the idea of seeing animals that eventually will be slaughtered - so I avoid places where I can see farms, etc. And I can’t seem to get a clear idea from Google search if that would be a problem if I go there. Thank you:)

    • @ThreeStarVagabond

      @@elenasingleterry5854 There are no farms right next to the town itself, and if you drive or take a bus there there are no farms along the way. If memory serves there are only fields in the outskirts, but no farm animals. So you should be good.

    So interesting of the ruins and stones and that you teach us the history about it! Very cool stuff. Love hearing about the Vikings and also that the stones were painted colors making them much more beautiful. To be a good Christian, you must have a stone with the information! I also feel like it was also done only for the wealthy though. Thanks for sharing buddy!

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! :D And good point - it was definitely just the rich vikings who erected these stones since it took so much time to have them carved. I probably should have mentioned that! :)

    Looks like these runestones are coloured in recently

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are. All to keep the public interest. It’d barely be visible otherwise, but they aren't colored like the original paintwork - all reds and blacks and white

    A stonethrow from my childhood home is some of the "ingvar stones" talking about the travels and raids to Särkland which is belived to be todays Georgia.

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so cool! I don't think I've seen those stones yet. ...And I have to admit that I felt pretty stupid now, when my first thought was "Georgia? Noo, they never traveled inland in the US! Oh.. Oh, THAT Georgia!"

    • @ThreeStarVagabond

    Aww not rrally familiar with Vikings. But I watched a documentary in NatGeo about vikings in Norway. This vlog is so helpful. Never knew there are vikings in Sweden as well.

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! :) Yeah, vikings were pretty spread out over Norway and Sweden and Denmark too. But I think the Norwegian ones sailed west, while the Swedish ones sailed east mostly.

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johr1513 Fair enough! I think everyone focuses way too much on the "Norsemen" part of the vikings who headed to the British isles - so maybe the exact origin of where different vikings came from isn't brought up very often.

    I think it’s awesome that even on private property they have a sign so people can see it. That would never happen in the US. They’d put it in their garage and not let anyone else see it. Lol
