- This is the concluding part of the exciting climax of the BBC Gospel Choir of the Year 2018 Competition. Hosted by David Grant, it featured five amazing choirs who sang at The Albert Hall Nottingham in front of the judges: award-winning choir director Gareth Malone, gospel choir leader Karen Gibson and actor and singer Shaun Escoffery. There is also a combined performance of Joyful Joyful we adore thee, and the award presentation
The competing choirs are IDMC from central London, Keele University Gospel Choir from Staffordshire, Shalom Chorale from London, Spring Into Soul from Worthing and C3 Vocals from Cambridge.

Well, from someone who got 1st class in Music in University of Lagos, who has a voice so rich and distinct as well as a level of commitment to God's work that is unprecedented (speaking about the Choir Director - FEMI aka "olojukokoro" ...that's my nickname for him based on a song he did at MFM in Lagos), I am not surprised they won. God bless him and the Shalom chorale for being the best and beating the best! From here in Naija, we love you and are super proud of you!

On the next Songs of Praise, Josie d'Arby joins the archbishop of Canterbury, who shares his thoughts on the significance of the Christingle tradition in modern times, as well as some poignant personal memories of feeling lonely at Christmas as a child.
Sean Fletcher meets with children from five different local schools as they make some Christingles in preparation for a special evening service held at All Saints' Church in Hoole, Chester.
Although the tradition of Christingle originated in the Moravian church in Germany in the 18th century, the Children's Society held their first Christingle service in this country half a century ago and it is estimated there are over 6,000 such services held in the country nowadays.
Sean also sits in on rehearsals for a musical drama based on the story of the Nativity, written by the teachers and pupils of Bishop's Blue Coat Secondary School in Chester.
On this first Sunday of Advent, there's a varied selection of seasonal hymns old and new from around the country and a special performance of an Advent favourite from soprano Laura Wright.
