If I may ask, why did you go for passive first?

The reason you do passive first is to establish the amount of range of motion available, it is important when measuring active range of motion to know if the patient is able to move through their full, available range of motion. If you check passively and the patient only has 15 degrees of inversion, then if they actively move 15 degrees they can actually move through their full available range of motion even though it is less than the normal range expected. Hope that is helpful and thanks for watching.

@@physicaltherapyeducationso4585 ahh okay I see. In our school, we are actually taught to do active first before passive in order assess the extent of the patient's ability to do a particular movement. Anyway, thank you for this perspective.

Dave, either way is ok as long as you determine how much motion is available and how much of it they can move through.
