    The operational hours need to be extended to at least 11 P.M. , ending the service in 7 P.M. for a driverless train is ridiculous.
    Also is the frequency at least every 5 minutes? Because usually driverless train have frequency every 3 minutes or less, because if the frequency is above every 5 minutes, might as well just man the train because you just defeat the purpose of the driverless train.
    In the future, they might want the Area around all station to be at the very least integrated by very frequent Busses, they also can build some high density Housing and retail area around each station although i think they already planned about that, also they need to improve Pedestrian facility to actually connect with the destination that people want to go.

      2.1 million people in the city and 4.2 million in the metro area vs 1 million for all of Oahu. The initial projection for the current route was 15,000, later downgraded to 12,600 and then 8-10,000. According to official figures from DTS, actual ridership for the first year was 3,194 per day.

    • @TheNewGreenIsBlue
      @TheNewGreenIsBlue 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Montreal already has a metro. Completely different story. The REM is a fill-in solution with an already established ridership base.
      Vancouver's the same. Though much smaller population than Montreal, when it built the 19km Canada Line to the airport, it was pretty much full from day 1. Over 100k passengers from the start in 2010. It just goes to show you that you have to built lines where people want to go... HART doesn't yet go anywhere. Once you build where people want to go, then you can build to areas to encourage TOD... like the Millennium Line did, which at first had low ridership but has become a spine for North Burnaby and given the cities a focus for TOD along a corridor that use to have car dealerships.
      It seems that HART is handicapping its future. I have high hopes for it because people just don't yet appreciate it, but it HAS to increase hours soon. It's no good going to the airport if it isn't running when flights are coming in or out!!!

    3000 - 4000 passengers is barely the attendance of a tramway STATION in my home city, not even a line. Let alone an automated metro...
    The HART ridership is abysmal, there's no better way to say it.
    Though, beginning construction with the least usable part surely didn't help, ontop of the weird operating hours.
    It's as if they did everything to make it unsuccessful...
    As for the humongous cost, the insularity is an overworked excuse. All rapid transit, train, or light rail infrastructures in America are excessively expensive to build.
    New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco aren't islands in the middle of the Pacific, and yet, they build horribly costly transportation infrastructures.
    Being an island far away maybe played a role in the excessive cost, but the main issue is that it's built in America, where a surface tramway line costs as much as a deep bored automated subway line in European G7 countries...
    How could Ansaldo produce a train with such problematic wheel flanges? They've equipped other cities, what happened here?

    • @wyw876
      @wyw876 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The excessive cost is because the US doesn't have enough ongoing transit build-out, so there are no standing bodies of knowledge about how to build, or buy, or let alone manage transit projects, so everyone is constantly costing out a build-up of an army of temps who have to be trained on newly purchased tools, purchased by people who have no idea if the quoted price is in line with their last 2 equivalent projects, and managed by people who have more ambitions in the political sphere than giving a hoot about lowering profitability by holding suppliers to engineering standards. Adding city infill projects to this just multiplies the costs of everything, bc instead of clearcutting stands of trees to make way for all of your heavy equipment, you have to delicately dance around building skyscraper foundations and city utilities with your army of temps with their makeshift equipment.
      Contrast that to the asphalt highway industrial complex. You can point to dozens of degree-granting institutions that can set you up for life by placing you in the standing army of suppliers to that beast, and that's without even mentioning the entire other standing army of suppliers for vehicles that require asphalt roadways.

    • @KyrilPG
      @KyrilPG 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@wyw876 There are many other reasons for the ballooning costs.
      They all compound each other to inflate costs to unbelievably high levels.
      This was explained quite well by the Transit Cost Project.
      But it seems they never learn from their mistakes and they keep repeating them over and over.
      So the cost increases, and future projects include these cost increases, which then is increased again, and on and on...
      The fact that there's few qualified and experienced workers in this field only is a small part of the problem.
      The ones that have experience don't use it to improve future projects, it's like they redo the same mistakes every single time like a broken record.
      Among the many reasons, there's the excessive number of workers on certain tasks, the excessive recourse to overtime, the excessive use or selection of custom products, sizes, technologies, etc. The excessive alterations of plans past the design stage, the excessive use of consultants and micro-management by people who should rather use a hands-off approach, and many other reasons.
      All these have an impact on cost, even if it seems limited when taken independently.
      But all of them together can increase the cost of a project by ten folds.
      Excessive manning of certain teams multiplied by overdesigning and-or oversizing certain parts quickly drive the cost up. Add to that the many other reasons and you obtain some of the worst overpriced projects on the planet.
      For example : 1.5 time too many workers on average per task, plus 1.5 time overdesigning stations which are 1.8 time larger in footprint that they need to be and you get a project that's already more than 4 times the normal cost...
      It seems like no one wants to do anything to correct that. As if many of those involved actually support this overspending and rather continue this way instead of conducting properly efficient infrastructure projects.

    Honolulu really needs this but it would be better to have extended into Waikiki. H1 is insane and can't be expanded, especially through the city center - and buses from the airport take at least 45 minutes in each direction with at least forty possible bus stops.

      @@ianhomerpura8937It always comes down to the US being a country not used to decent and frequent public transport. The whole world has streetcars/trams and only in the US and Canada they suck. How come? They don’t have dedicated lanes and they don’t have priority at crossings over there. Try to change it and they only see objections and problems instead of possibilities and solutions which work fine in the rest of the world. The US has to be like this because they feel superior, so the rest of the world cannot have a better solution than they can come up with. So they keep muddling on with public transport.

    What I don't understand is this part: "Initially estimated at 5.2 billion dollars, the project's budget has since ballooned to over 12.4 billion dollars. One major reason behind the skyrocketing costs is Hawaii's geographical isolation." So... they didn't know the city's location until after construction started? Or did they just find out that the location makes things more expensive? I don't get why they didn't factor in the higher costs posed by the logistical challenges from the beginning.
