THE DAY OF ATONEMENT: How were sins forgiven in the Old Testament? THE TASKS OF THE HIGH PRIEST

Only the HIGH PRIEST could enter the Most Holy Place once a year - it was the ANNUAL DAY OF ATONEMENT. For this, he took the goat and sacrificed it in place of the nation's sinners (vicarious death = death in someone's place). The goat, therefore, was the substitute for the iniquity committed because it died in the sinner's place.
Today, in the New Covenant, JESUS CHRIST is our perfect HIGH PRIEST and our PERFECT SACRIFICE. Hallelujah!
