Main characters are all important to the story, even if they are not at the centre of it, such as the other Strawhats apart from the protagonist Luffy. Some main characters can be argued to be there to support and propel the protagonist, sometimes having a supporting character role, but that does not diminish their main character status, nor is a supporting character the same as a side character. Side characters enhance the narrative without being important to the main plot. As for extras, I am unsure why you even mentioned those. They are nameless characters in movies and animations that exist solely to populate the background.
