Mitch is a great interviewer, nobody left out and relaxed enough that everyone opened up. Been a fan of the Sons since GWV and these amazing musicians keep getting better and better. Darkfighter ( and if rumours are true- Lightbringer ) are going to set this world on fire!!
Mitch did a great job and asking questions that are not normally asked of the whole band and their own element of what they bring to the band but also what they get from the band as a whole. You can see the tension at times within the band and yet at the same time their truly enjoy each other's musicianship.
I love/ loved Layne Staleys voice quality...he's been my fav rock vocalist since I first heard him... never thought I would love another voice that much in my life....and then...I heard Mr. Jay Buchanan... thank god..God... I need fantastic music to live in this world. 💜💜💜

I grew up on 90s music. There was a massive lull of no decent guitar after oasis, OCS faded away. This is the only band which is filling thay space, and boy do they fill it! I seen rival sons live this year and what a performance. One of the best, if not the best, live band I've seen. Everything was there: sound quality, energy, tightness, nailing every note, the on stage solo's etc! Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to see these guys live again 🤞❤✌️

Just saw this band last night in Irvine CA, 8-9-2023. They f-ing rock! They opened for Smashing Pumpkins along with STP. Everything about this band is special. Chops on everyone, pipes that are powerful. I never heard of them until last night. They are now on my playlists, I will be buying their music. They have the potential to upstage the headliners if headliner is not careful.
I’m 42 year old die hard music fan , all sorts and genres . The past 10 years , Rival Sons have been the best thing I’ve heard in any genre or music . Jay may be the best singer on Earth . The Hopelessly Devoted acoustic thing is exhibit A . I have the acoustic version of Jordan which is just chilling , their remake of CCR Long As I Can See , the Black Sabbath tribute . These guys will do 30 years .. or more
Great interview, very authentic and informative. It is not lost on me that you have to give similar interviews again and again...but authentic care comes through. Clearly you have the talent AND the passion! Keep on Swinging! And get your butts back to Cleveland Brothers!
There is no doubt and no discussion - Jay is probably the most powerful and recognizable voice on the modern music scene. But, like the other truly legendary bands it is never about a single person - the whole band consists of highly talented musicians, shaping what we know as Rival Sons. So, no surprise this story starts not with Jay, but with Scott and Michael.
Best rock band nowadays period ! And they are as good on studio (not one bad album to their repertoire after 14 productive years is pretty remarkable) than live.
Rival Sons have that "thing" where you hear a song and immediately go "Oh, Rival Sons" and that's not an easy thing to achieve. They are quirky, and different, and that's what makes them stand out in today's world of cookie cutter music. That, and the facial hair :O)
For those that did not grow up in 60's, watching this band grow the closest experience. GWV their best album so far, IMHO. New one looks like a challenger. Can't wait. Bud and drove in blizzard to see them first time in London Ontario.

Hey All, I'm very pleased and excited to say I'm seeing them Live in London Arena in July 2024 supporting ZZ Top. I'm a great fan of ZZ Top but I got ticket's purely to see this awesome band. I'm a huge Stones, Led Zeppelin & AC/DC fan, but these guys are carrying the Rock, R&B torch onwards. Jay's voice is completely off the charts and one of the best voices I've ever heard!
I wonder if Acid Bath and Dax Riggs influenced the band or the songwriting. I certainly hear some similarities to songs like 'Venus Blue' by Acid Bath in 'Rapture' or even just the vibe of a song like 'Didn't Know yet What I'd Know When I Was Bleedin'' by Dax - which can certainly be said is influenced by the Chulahoma album by Black Keys. Just curious about who everyone is listening to and what is soaking in.
I like what they’ve been putting out as of late. It’s a bit more musical, melodic etc. They always sounded too blues derived ala Sons Of Anarchy soundtrack lol or something
Been following since pressure and time! Found them on the free single of the week from iTunes (2011). Haven’t seen them yet but will defiantly see them on this next tour! Very thoughtful fellows
There was no other original singer for Rival Sons. Scott/Miley with then Bass player Robin were in a Band called Black Summer Crush. Rival Sons started with Jay/Scott/Miley and Robin. Robin left in 2013 and Dave was brought in and they added Todd on Keys to flesh the Rival Sons sound out.
Jay certainly had easier access to his high notes in the early days. To sing that high for so long takes its toll on a voice. It's just physics. Higher voice = greater frequency of vibration of your vocal cords. Not to mention the harsh, innate nature of rock singing. All you have to do is look at how similar singers have fared - Plant comes to mind. His voice was toast not too long after the Zep breakup. What Jay may have lost in ease of access, sweetness & lyricism in his top range, he's gained in that fucking rock and roll scream, which he does night in and night out. The pandemic actually did him a favor with the forced break from constant touring. I feel (hope!) it added years to his career. Can't think of a better rock and roll singer today. Josh Kiszka should be so lucky to have as long a career, with as strong a voice as Jay's. Watch and learn from Jay, little boy.

I saw them play Pressure & Time in its entirety, they were beyond amazing, favourite tho was White Noise, tore the place a new one !

The music business is Pop oriented now. So that’s why Rival Sons is not a household band that even Grandma knows.

Had Rival Sons recorded their music 1965-1975 they would be considered the greatest rock band of all time.
